Fabulous performance of one of JSB's most challenging works. The musicianship on display here is jaw-dropping and I really cannot imagine anyone playing it better.

Playing in orchestras and a piano major for a little while, my best friend in college turned me onto Bach organ music. It is so fantastic and rich. 543 has been an obsession of mine for years, many years. The speed of Fox, the strangeness of Guillou, I love them all. This was excellent!!! For me 543 fugue has a special quality found in only a few pieces of Bach. I don't know, I like it a lot, can listen to it over and over and time stops for a moment. Towards the end of the fugue the right hand needs more of the trumpet and reedy stops to just blare out those chords. Amazing piece, great performance.

This has to be the finest performance I’ve ever heard of this great work. The subtleties of phrasing are electrifying! I’m inspired to get the score out and dust it off - 20 years now since I last played it - but with a new benchmark to aim for!
    Many thanks,
    Andrew (in Sydney, Australia)

I distinctly remember Mantoux coming to Malta for a concert at St John's Cathedral in the early 90s. The BWV 543 was one of the pieces he performed. I was impressed with his clear articulation and interpretation. After all these years, with this performance, my impression hasn't diminished.

J'aime bien cette piece d'orgue de Bach. Généralement je la joue un peu plus tranquillement.
La perfection de l'interpretation est étonnante.
    Félicitations!

An excellent rendition. And the organ sounds well-suited to Bach. Superb technique, especially on the Pedals. 👍 ❤️

Images et son, à mon avis peu synchrones, non ?
Le BWV est malgré tout bien interprété !

Dear Vincent, you have a proven genius talent in symphonic French organmusic. Bach however, has already been done many times by numerous channels on the WWW. Please use your gift in the right field......this is not blunt critisism, but I, as a fanatic follower of yours, am a bit disappointed when you post baroque organmusic videos. In the meantime, i will álways remain faithful to your wónderful channel!!
    Your continuous admirer,
    Adri from Holland

Mon cher M. Mantoux, veuillez ignorer ce commentaire ci-dessus par "a v". Jouez tout et tout ce que votre cœur désire. Votre compétence aux orgues est irréprochable.

Not just baroque music, this is Bach. Any organist, anywhere, anytime, that does not master Bach basically cannot play the organ. I don't even play organ but Bach organ is always about 25% of my music listening. Yes, the same preludes and fugues, over and over each time like hearing it for the first time but knowing it by heart. The toccata in F is crazy, punk-like baroque, so inventive, so humorous, so perfectly conceived. And yes I like the Widor, Vierne and Messiaen.
