Also “how is your car running?” Meaning actually “are you about to ask for money?”

Reminds me so much of an Irish friend's father.

This guy needs to have a larger following so he can come to Wilmington, North Carolina, USA
I’ve only been fortunate to spend about three quarters of a day in Dublin to top off my first trip to Europe, which began in Amsterdam.
But after a week of craziness visiting 8 major European cities in as many days, Dublin did me in.
I missed all ten of the wake-up calls I’d scheduled with the attendant when I returned to the hotel from the bar at 5:30 am, missed the flight, and booked a new one for greater cost than the entirety of the trip to that point.
Really can’t wait to go back ❤
    Cheers! 🍻

Both myself and my ex-wife had Had jobs we the BBC, in London. That's how we met, but we moved on and tried other things - with varying degrees of success. 10, 15, 20 years later on we'd still be hearing the cry, 'would you not think of going back to the BBC. Imagine even my dad. He scandalised his family in 1950s Ireland by giving up a job with thee Ulster Bank (after six years) to become a full time actor. They nearly didn't speak to him ever again. In fact, over 20 years later when he had become far more successful than if he'd ever stayed in the bank, his uncle saw him in a very rated play on the television. At the end of it, he turned of his set in disapproval. A very dour man, he pronounced to his family ... 'Acting?? Huh. Is that what they call it? Oh, yeh?? Huh!! And to think that fella gave up a good job in the bank!!!'

I can totally relate😂 they told my granddad to be thankful for the job he got at a bank after WWII but he always wanted to work as a carpenter. Worked at the bank for 40 years and hated it🤯
