The 9mmn is weak, I don't give a sh** what shooting through wood shows, years ago I had to defend myself with a 9mm and it did not stop the perp with a center mass shot, I had to hit him in the chin to stop him and in the interim, he hit me in the right arm, 25 years later, it still hurts like hell!!
I built an 1/8" hardened plate system held together at 4 corners with threaded rod & 1" spacers in between plates, It was 6 plates deep and I was testing 5.56 vs 7.62x39 & 308 vs 54r... Never thought of a pine board system to measure... Love it!!! Keep it!
That was actually very instinctive. Over penetration is allways a serious concern. No one wants to kill their neighbor when defending oneself against an invader in one's home...even if your neighbor does drink all your beer and never returns your tools.
You sure put some work into building that box, thanks for doing that and sharing the results. Scott, I really enjoyed the board chop, thanks for the laughs.
.270 Winchester VS .30-06 Springfield in the pine board box! It has to have some scientific value. I remember seeing an old military video demonstrating the power of the .45 acp on pine boards.
The pine board box is good. I’d love to see a mock-up of a house in series including drywall to give people an idea how far a round goes in a neighborhood
I know this video has been up a while, but just wanted to give the pine board box an up-vote. I would like to see 10 mm vs. .45 acp, also maybe one with 9 mm vs. .380 acp. Thanks! Also, you ought to start giving away those shot pine boards as prizes, maybe to your Patreon supporters; write on them with a Sharpie the date shot, pistol & caliber, ammo used, etc. Maybe you could even raffle them off for some charity or something. Just trying to think outside the (pine) box!
Pine boards are a fun medium especially if you like woodworking. Others get their panties bunched up in a wad, but it's your channel, do what you want and have fun. Great job on the box, I like it. The left handed karate strike..... Brilliant. 😁
@@michaelchristensen6884 some people have to. Some would rather poke holes in the target than drop a bullet in them. If you live in the country you definitely want more penetrationnin case of large animals
The pine board idea is great. I'm comparing the power of firearms through your demonstrations. I can appreciate the difference between the smaller firearms like the ones that uses 9mm caliber vs the larger like Desert Eagel 50 AE.
Awesome shooting box! I love the 10mm round. For higher caliber rounds you could stack paper plates in between the pine boards to reduce the amount of pine boards you're using.
Another good video Scott. I have to admit that I'm a 10mm fan but it looks like the 9mm fares favorably on your penetration tests. I understand this may not match *all* real world cases but damn it I expected that 10mm to blow away the 9mm. Facts are facts though. Thanks again for the videos.
Hopefully your hand is ok lol. I like the box. I'd like to see .357 magnum, .44 magnum, .454 Casull, and .500 S&W. I'd also like to see a crazy comparison like .500 S&W vs 50 BMG or .454 Casull vs .338 Lapua. Just some ideas. Keep up the great videos Scott!
Although pine doesn’t show wound channels it is great way to do direct comparison for penetration tests. Thank you for showing hot 9’s compared to 10mm as many people want to know if 9mm will do the job in bear country. Would really like to see 9mm hardcast vs 10mm hardcast as those heavier bullets have the best penetration and penetrate straighter than the “extreme penetrators”
458 Socom and the 454 Casull that is a very good idea but I could tell that took some craftsmanship to make. Maybe instead of pine boards use plywood to cut the cost down a little bit for you.
I like your thinking. It’s easy to see and replicate. I think the old Army test used probably green actual 1” boards. But as long is your test is consistent, it works. It Might be nice occasionally to Put a piece of tin in front of the first board. Use some paraffin canning type wax on your slots. It will keep the swelling down a little and make it way easier to It the boards in and out. Bees wax works great too. Great channel. Glad to see a KENTUCKY guy on RUclips. The world knows we are the best!!! 🤔
Awesome content Scott! The only thing with the pine box is that shooting it multiple times (more than 2 times) the wood becomes a less solid test medium. Meaning if you shoot it and the pine cracks, subsequent shots could be less likely to be stopped, but maybe more so with the real big bore stuff.....44 mag and up? Could you do a .357 vs 41mag? I think that might be an interesting versus video!
I was going to give you a hard time comparing 9mm versus 10mm because I thought the results would be way more skewed in the 10mm favor. I'm glad I watched the whole video first.
It’s funny that while watching this video I was also watching the movie Twister! And you showed a clip from the movie 😂😂😂 love your videos! Keep up the great work!! You should do the .50 BMG vs pine boards and the .338 Lapua Magnum vs pine boards
LOL, I loved the twister cameo, i freaking loved that movie when it came out. LOLOLOLOL That shit was awesomely hilarious when you were attempting and succeeding at breaking the pine boards. 0ne, stuck! Lmao! Good test. Good method. Gives you alot of room for variants. Such as gel in front of pine box, or a chunk of meat. Or two boards then gel etc. etc. Thanks for sharing. Hey, maybe a little wd40 or cooking spray on the grooves might help with the boards sticking. See ya next vid.
they used to check bullet performance this way a hundred years ago using ⅞" pine boards. I have a 1955 Shooter's Digest where they published the results of the tests. Interesting stuff
Nice setup and very informative! Test every pistol caliber you have access to. Tokarev 7.62x25 is probably not the best stopper, but should be good perpetrator. 9x19mm 115, 124, 147gr
9mm +p+ 150 g, compared to 10mm 200g this can come all the way down to a energy of 424 ft/lbs which is practice ammo. 10mm fmj will go to 700 ft/lbs of muzzle energy. You can not compare 9mm +p+ with 10mm practice range ammo. Get some hot 10mm ammo, the 10mm is labeled as magnum for a reason, you can see the 10 can bring the hurt far more readily than any 9mm will ever produce.
I like the contraption. You can continue improvising it, building on it with other ideas as well. Use plywood boards on some tests. Sheet metal sections too.
I like the idea of the boards. You can get some of those colored round stickers to cover previous shot holes that way you can use those boards a lot more.
Excellent idea on the box and the removable panels. Those who think the 9mm is weak, pls take note. Perry P. Southern California

@daAnder71 only because it shot 1,000 times more than all other pistol calibers combined, so your argument is invalid.
I was surprised the 10mm didn't do more. Totally impressed with the 9mm
Everything you do is great! The box is a nice neutral way to show raw penetration! As always thanks Scott!

357 vs 38 special. Normal fmj for both vs plus p hollow points for 38. And hollow points for 357. The box looks very well done.

It’s normal for smaller diameter bullets to penetrate further. Sectional density is what gives better penetration estimates.
