Spiders and other insects only live close to the entrance to the cave as it is too dark for them to hunt and survive further in, if you do come across a spider deeper it it would have been washed in by water. I know this because i go caving in Australia all the time where everything is trying to kill you but not in caves scariest thing you’ll find in a cave is a bat and they wont hurt you.

However, it’s not silent.. that was an interesting thing is that even in the blackness it feels different than other environments because there is a lot of noise. Distant crashing of water, drips and drops, echoes from who knows where..
I've camped in caves all my life. As a kid I was hardly home during summer and spring breaks after I discovered caves near home, but then again I found one area in the cave that was always bone dry. Even if it rained the ground water did not penetrate the rock cealing in that area. Wet is misserable. That was a total different era back in the 80s. We teenagers had our 22s 410s and 30/30s and the neighborhood knew we were not out to harm anyone. Just kids out shooting and camping.
That's why cavers always wear helmets. The only reason to ever take it off is if you have to squees through a section so narrow that your helmet prevents you from passing through.
Great question. I asked Joe (the guide in the cave system) and he said: “I have been in a cave when there was a quake in the Lake district. There are fault lines around the Dales so they absorbed the shock from the Cumbrian area. If you were in a cave and a quake happened near by, it would depend on the magnitude. A light one prob wouldn't have an effect, a big one would prob result in the collapse of the cave and you being very flat!” Hope that helps

As scary as this is, people take chances everyday just like smoking or driving drunk, we as humans feel the need for exploring and it must give you that nice feeling you get when you finish something that took effort. You have time to think and be born again or something like that.
I can understand not being able to sleep because of like spiders and being wet. But I love sleeping in complete darkness and sleeping in tight spaces. Talk about perfect lol
When I first met Joe (the cave guide) he took us on a trip through a squeeze called The Cheese Press. It was a challenge. There was a section that was so tight you couldn’t have your arms stretched in front of you because you had to turn a slight corner. Basically you had to worm your way through and you couldn’t raise your head up and I had a moment where I needed to speak to myself quietly and calm down otherwise I was in danger of losing it. THAT was pretty anxiety inducing. But the fact is that the caves are huge and separated by small sections. So you go from small squeezes to large cathedral like caverns where you can stand. It’s mostly enjoyable
@@TreaderTube i honestly don't understand. Somebody out there had to be the FIRST person to go through a squeeze like that, right? How did they do it, not knowing if it were possible or not, or that they might get trapped? Seriously, who are these people that explore these squeezes for the first time? Are they all just escaped mental patients?
Falkensteinhöhle and Schillerhöhle look like big caves? I couldn't find much information on Baden/Bad Urach. But my friend speaks German and has a German girlfriend so he'd be a good translator. Thanks for the info 👍
The "Falkensteiner Höhle" is a very long cave (>5 km), which has not yet been completely investigated. Entrance is free, but you need professional equipment (incl. diving under water). a link (sorry, in German) : www.badurach-tourismus.de/Media/Attraktionen/Falkensteiner-Hoehle The "Schillerhöhle" becomes steep and narrow after 20m - something for profesionals. All in all, this region called "Schwäbische Alb" has hundreds or thusands of caves. The most famous one has its exit (or entrance) at the bottom of the "Blautopf" (blue pot), a small but deep lake (diameter 30m, depth 23m) in the small city "Blaubeuren" near Ulm. The "Tiefenhöhle" at Laichingen (deep cave) can be visited by everyone, the official tour goes around 80m deep.
At least u didn’t turn out like John Jones! If u don’t know who he is he is a caver was stuck upside down more than 15 ft and he was stuck there for 28 hours and the workers couldn’t get him out so he died there so his bones are still there.... it’s a horrible way to die
Caves are actually pretty safe and healthy. The accident rate in caves is fairly low, and generally when something happens its still fairly minor, like a sprained limb or getting lost (the latter is only an inconvenience, unless you're in an absolutely gigantic cave and/or didn't notify anyone of your position and max turn around time).
There was no way of knowing if it'd be shit or not, I just had to give it a try....and it was shit. Lesson learned. Although if I do it again I know what I'd do differently to make it more enjoyable
