A Very COLD Day in Skagway | Our Shore Excursion was Canceled | Norwegian Alaskan Cruise May 2024!!

- (Part Four) In today's video it's our port of call day in Skagway, Alaska but we started this morning with receiving some terrifying news from the captain. Once we make it off of the ship it's time to make our way over to meet the tour guide for the ocean raft adventure shore excursion which got cancelled due to weather. So, with that I take you around this beautiful town and we find the best restaurant to eat alaskan crab legs and all things seafood at Woadie's which is a place the locals go to. Next, I take you around the beautiful Norwegian Encore to show you more of the activities that you can do onboard. We also have dinner back inside of the Manhattan dining room. My husband & I are celebrating our 50th Anniversary early with this cruise, we got married September 28th 1974. We are on Holland America Koningsdam. The views are so breathtaking! We are passing through all the Mountains on our way to Glacier Bay tomorrow & it’s fun watching your trip while we are on ours 🥰

We went in mid-May last year loved our trip. We rented a car in Skagway and traveled the Yukon Highway to Emerald Lake, stopping whenever we wanted.

I had a September Alaska Cruise booked. But health issues have forced my cancellation. So I'm enjoying these videos intently. BBQ salmon is my favorite

So sorry to hear that your excursion was canceled. I took my first Alaskan cruise last year on the same ship (NCL Encore) and had a FABULOUS time! It was the week of May 7th. It only rained in Ketchikan. It was a misty rain but it was extremely cold...lol. Thank you for including the restaurant suggestions. I plan to visit those on my next cruise. Enjoy!!!

I enjoy your cruise videos. I live vicariously through you and Bianca because health issues prevent my husband and I from traveling anymore. I am glad Bianca is in more of your videos now. She seems to be more comfortable with being in them now and adds a different element.
I’ve been following you guys for just a bit now, we’re cruise junkies in this house. We did the inside passage on the Norwegian Bliss in October, and you were hitting some of the same places that we did. I was really hoping that you guys were going to take the white Pass railway up into the mountains in Skagway, when you go back, that should be an absolute on your itinerary. And we were shoulder season, so there was only two restaurants open. The red onion wasn’t even open it had closed for the season. We ended up eating at the Skagway brewery which was incredibly good. I love watching you guys videos my absolute best of both of you. I too am the central Florida guy. I am in Windermere right behind Magic Kingdom-ish. Safe and happy travels as always, maybe I’ll see you on board one day. Keep safe and travel well!
We did that cruise the week before you did. We lucked out on the weather. Beautiful sunny weather at every stop.
We went on the Encore a year or so back and Skagway was definitely one of my favorite stops, such a cool little town!

We (my wife and I) are going to Alaska in September. Loved all your vlogs from this trip and the last one.
Took an Alaskan cruise on the Disney Wonder in August 2013. It was still cold enough for hats and gloves, but no snow. We took the White Pass Railway in Skagway and it was rainy and foggy the whole time so we didn't really see much. I think the weather can be really bad anytime of year up north. We're going on the Disney Dream to Norway and Iceland this coming July, and it seems like cold and rainy and very windy (in Iceland) will be the norm. Beautiful video Dev and Bianca! Thank you!

Poke is really popular in Hawaii also. Good time to book a repositioning cruise.. spend a few days in Hawaii then back it up with like an 8-10day cruise back to Seattle/Vancouver
Often May is still cold in Alaska, though there have been years which it has been 70 degrees or so. Make sure you do pack for warmth as the weather is sooooo changeable!☺️

I always enjoy your videos Dev. I guess I've lived in Florida way to long and it does get hot no doubt. But going on vacation in a bitter cold, no sunshine climate is probably not on my bucket list! lol
I also live In Florida and I have been to Alaska with my wife twice in July and it is not bitter cold. The weather is mostly in the upper 50s to low 60s depending on the port you go into but absolutely beautiful and such a nice break from the heat in FL.
PCDev mentioned in his last video this is the risk you take going in May. I don't recommend going on your Alaskan cruise in this month because of the colder wet weather and you see they had two cancelled excursions so far.
We went to Alaska in May last year, great weather all week. The week after we went rained all week. So, you just can't predict. I understand it is the same all summer long.
I was on a Disney Alaskan cruise at the end of May 2019, we had beautiful mid-upper 60’s weather. You just never know.

Yes we have talked about visiting Alaska that way! I would love to see that place during actual winter.
@@PCDev make sure you buy very very warm clothes if you go in the winter. And insulated boots to keep your feet warm. And a good pair of gloves.

We did alaska from April 26 through May 4th. It was hot and dry in every port lol

I really enjoy your videos of Alaska. I'm just curious why you guys didn't do the White Pass Train excursion. That's one excursion I want to take when going to Skagway. Also, we would be interested in doing a group cruise to Alaska in 2025.
I think there are better shore excursions offered in Skagway for us. We don’t like sitting for a long period of time. Maybe one day we will do it.

Yes, if I'm not mistaken, this is the end of the season for Alaska? I could be wrong, but I've been and whenever I would go it would be July to August
The summer season is June-Mid August. Mid to late August it can begin to get chilly/rainy. Our fall season is basically September. Winter is October-April. May is spring.

We have thought about it
Alaska cruise season for the larger lines is May-September (some have April-October.) The tours and touristy shops start shutting down mid-September. There are a couple specialty lines that do winter, but 🥶🥶🥶🥶!!! UnCruise has some small, cool cruises in the more off-seasons.
You walked into town. Is there a shuttle that takes you to town for those that wouldn’t be able to walk the whole way?
Yes there is a different shuttle bus that you can take into town from the port for $5 per person round trip.

Crazy. When I went 5 years ago the end of May it was 70 degrees and sunny in Skagway. Really stinks your excursions keep getting canceled but it looks like you're enjoying your time regardless.
