I went to Tenerife in 1976, Puerto De La Cruz. There was nothing but desert in the south of the island then. I wouldn't go back, I can't stand nightlife of any variety.

A similar thing happened in britain in the late sixties, higher earners went to southern spain, the tourist spend slowly went down, bringing the economy with it. If you want to see what will happen here eventually go to weston super mare or the IOW.
Blackpool.. Ayr .. Southport .. Morecambe to name a few that I’ve seen going down hill after people started going on sunshine holidays .. I personally go on city breaks in Britain now .. like abroad for the sun .. Ibiza .. Majorca .. Canaries .. Turkey.. Can't believe the comments on here, typical Brits who don't look into the issues that's been created on this beautiful island. They want and require tourists, but not the sort that book residential property that locals live in as this drives out the waiters, bar staff and taxi drivers that we all require. The islands along with the Spanish authority need to put a stop to AirBnB style bookings as this is where locals living in rented accommodation have been booted out to cater for these tourists, as they can charge far more for it.
yip i said that but the majority of uk tourists stay in the big hotels or apartments on packages mostly so thats not the main issue the locals are protesting about its mainly against the govt policies and lack of investment that has forced locals to move miles away. The only Indian restaurant I've eaten at in Costa Adeje is Curry and Spices near the Be Live hotel, I'd highly recommend that place to anyone who fancies their curry fix whilst out in Costa Adeje.
We were in Las Americas from the 10th March until 17th, no graffiti, no water shortage, dont believe the nonsense in the British press, their motto is "never let the truth get in the way of a good story" Without tourism the Canaries would only have tomatoes, bannanas and potatoes to sell, how poor would they be then? by the way Kev, it's pronounced Fan-ya-bay. I’ve just come back from 6 weeks in Adeje. There is NO problem .1 protest in the north. Santa Cruz. There is a protest in London every week! Nothing has changed in the holiday resorts. Press has distorted it.They are not saying NO tourists they are asking for it to be managed better so the locals can rent affordable accommodation. Enjoy your holiday in South Tenerife.

It’s clear that Tenerife is reliant on tourism but it would help if everyone respects the local culture. For example, learn a few words of Spanish. If the situation were reversed, how many British would be happy if all the tourists arriving made no attempt to speak English?

If tourists stopped going to Tenerife and Spain then they wouldn't even survive because about 80% of their money comes from tourists.I lived in Tenerife between 2006-2008 in Los Cristianos and the rent there is much higher now than it was when I lived there.I last went on holiday there about a decade ago and after 2 days I was bored out my head and I nearly went home early but a single flight back to Manchester was €250 so I stayed and most of the people I knew when I lived there have either gone home or moved elsewhere.Other than the beach the only real attractions Tenerife has are water parks or animal parks.I also got bored of the night pubs because most of the bars were either showing tribute acts or karaoke and they soon get boring to listen to after a while.Since I stopped visiting Tenerife I've been to the New York, Orlando,Rome and Greece.My dads friends still work in The Blue Bell and The Hoops Bar but after COVID the hoops bar has recently moved to the top end near Taylor's bar. Most of my family still like visiting Tenerife but I don't think I'll be going back any time soon.
Went to Las Americas for one day to pick up a bike. The business owners pander to UK tourists by selling cheap booze & cheap fast food……chips, chips & more chips!!!! Results in often loud, drunken & bad behaviour. I thought it was tacky, and full of shops selling cheap Chinese rubbish. Not surprised the locals want to take back control.
The tourist industry in Spain brings in billions, as well as jobs and Brits set up home and setting up businesses there creation jobs. It will be a very foolish thing to do to keep tourist out. We are not coming for your benefits and housing, but to spend our money that we have earned elsewhere.👍
