Diesel, diesel....and you forget to say that Mazda has developed the Skyactiv technology on their petrol engines, probably among the best (and only?) remaining naturally aspirated petrol engines.
Rik S Im thinking about the red color fully loaded but sadly here the red is about ~$700 more expensive and the weather here is very sunny and hot so never a black one, if they didnt give me discount on the red color individually apart from the car negotiation itself then I might get the gray...ONE IMPORTANT question, I test drove the base 2.0 model and I felt the engine vibration under my legs when stopped in D, do you feel any vibration from the engine in a way that the sides of your chair under your legs go up and down vibrating or its a normal phone kind of vibration ?
sweet dreams Like here in Belgium you have to pay more for the red color, although he's very cool in red, understandable when you live in a place where its Sunny and hot most of the time that you are not going for the black one, when i bought mine a new color just arrived, kinda light blue, not the cristal deep blue ,you might like it too,,but maybe it depends from country to country what you can get.I think whatever color you take they all look cool.Comming back on your question...i have not experiened any kind of vibration like you did, maybe it depends on what engine you have,i drive the 120 h/p one, because i'm a city driver,i hardly drive a highway so going for the heavier kind would give me no benefit and the costs here are way too high............ ,in the end i get about 1500 euro's discount,i guess that's about 1900 dollar.,greets from Belgium.
Because it's not trendy enough. I'd have this over golf or focus. You'd have to be insane to buy a new focus, it's the most hideous thing ever. Volvo did a much better job with V40
Bought one a few days ago, great car! Mine is the 2.5 gas engine and drives fantastic. The steering wheel is balanced and communicative. The suspension is hard without being comfortable. This car handles like a BMW and cost less. Interior on the GT is very nice too. Leather seats, smart phone integration, BOSE system, collision detection, dual climate on the front. This is a great compact car!
I was waiting for this review for so long. I just love the new Mazda 3, and in my opinion, it's the car of the year. Looks amazing, excellent interior, drives good, and compared to a Golf, it's cheaper with all the equipment.
Traded in my 2011 Volkswagen GTI. Glad I did. GTI = More Brute Force (200hp) but handling sucked. It needed premium gas at fill up (91) and broke down constantly. I bought it new...in 3 years, busted radiator, faulty brakes, faulty turn signal, and not to mention the tires that were constantly getting damaged. Mazda3 = Smaller engine (155hp) but AMAZING handling, regular unleaded gas is fine, 30/40 mpg, and reliable! It has a 5 star safety rating (in the US) and came with standard Blind Side Monitoring. Overall, I just preferred the Mazda, and I know it sounds crazy to some VW/Audi fanatics, but the VW was just all hype IMO. It's not that much better than a Mazda 3.
I own 2014 car bought in Sept. 2013. So far I have been driving little more than 30,000 miles. I am very happy to have this car. The color is soul red, automatic, 2.5 L engine. I will buy the same Mazda3 hatchback next time if I need to buy a new one. The quality of the interior is very high, the wheel base of the car is little longer than VW, Toyota, Subaru and Honda's compact cars as well as the horse power and the torque. It is a really excellent car for the price for what the car has.
Carbuyer with each generation boots get slightly bigger and bigger, but we don't eat or shop more or. my family owns 10 year old hatchback and it's baggage space is sufficient
Carbuyer I think a family with two kids should consider an SUV or family sedan, considering the kids do grow, and the car doesn't. I don't think the extra tiny bit of room in the segment leader will be sufficient for the family you describe anyway.
All the dimensions are as worthy of comparison as hp, torque and styling. A car is a combination of many elements.Where any hatch might win out over a sedan with a bigger trunk (boot) is that with seats down the hatch has a single large bay, good enough for some furniture, a couple of bikes, or a big dog in a crate - which you can't do with a sedan. But as for mentioning these details (and others like storage, seat comfort, leg room, road noise) they are part of the CarBuyer checklist. There are other reviewers who don't worry about those things. But CarBuyer is really aimed at people shopping and comparing - and less at fans and enthusiasts.
Tom Crisp If CarBuyer really gives consumer advice, it should compare effective volume, not just published numbers. The Mazda3 has superior shoulder rooms and hip rooms compared to many of its competition due to wider car width, and offers superior front seat room, which results in better backseat room than many competitors after adjustments are made from standard positions. Merely mentioning numbers in the comparison is not consumer advice, it's aggregate marketing. As for "checklist", you could technically add many minute details to the "list". So long as the list isn't an exhaustive list (which it isn't, in this case), you're never 100% fault proof in your inclusion of features. Therefore, your "list" is, at best, a priority of features you deem as important for the consumers. Whether they agree or not, is a different matter. I mean you can say you think consumers ought to know the difference in the size of the rear view mirror too, but then you're just being pedantic.
Great Review, I am looking at buying a 2nd hand car and have my eyes on this, however being 6'4" means I do struggle with some cars. Your review and particularly mentioning the improved space makes me more confident that I will be able to drive this.
drove it, really nice and easy. a lot of leg room on back seat. the extirior desing is much better than other hatchbacks, really agrissive front, looks like a shark
nickolastiguan Actually, I'd say the Mazda is better in just about every aspect. It has more engine power, better fuel economy, better looks, better reliability, better technologies and a better infotainment system (bigger and better positioned screen, better interface, better nav map display). The only downside is a slightly smaller storage on the back, but the difference is not very big.
zxbc most of these are just our, and everyone else's personal opinions really. i prefer the new Golf's better built quality, use of materials and the better balance between ride comfort and driving dynamic to name a few.
nickolastiguan I'm not sure if you've ever test driven a Mazda3, but the materials inside are not at all inferior, as is the build quality. I'll give you the preference for a better ride comfort, but I really struggle to find other reasons to like the Golf over the Mazda.
zxbc i test drove the 3 and CX-5, as far as driving dynamic/the way it handles/goes around corners goes, it is better than the Golf. the interior is not bad, it's just not as good as the new Golf, the Golf's interior is luxury car like. i bet most people can't tell the difference between the Golf and an Audi. and the 3 and CX-5's cabins are just way too noisy at highway speed. but like i said, personal preferences.
Wow gorgeous! You look great in thoose jeans btw. Pretty honest review that, diesel gets over 65mpg! Unfortunately unheard of mpg here in the US. But yes the tech package is quite overwhelming but the ride is amazing and milage just incredible. Kudos to Mazda for putting the emphasis back into their true heritage and engineering erring and design philosophy! On of the most reliable and we'll engineered cars out there period
Road noise depends for a large part on the type and quality tire your are running. I think that would prove to be a simple solution for that point. I would go for the sedan though. Nicer styling a more space when you need it. Other than that a great car!
I think mazda3's one of the biggest selling point is the dashboard and the seats but the carbuyer accidently forgot to show it. I am not a mazda salesman but want to see the new design parts of a new car
I'm a short girl that's also a new driver. Debating on either the Mazda 3 or the Volkswagon Golf MK7. I know the Mazda got all the top awards this year but I have a soft spot for the Volkswagon...it's like my first love haha.
The sedan is probably longer, thus the larger boot. But with the hatchback of course you can put all kinds of things like furniture and large boxes in there that would never go in the sedan trunk.
Just want to point out that the brightness of the display can be adjusted using the nob on the upper right of the rev counter. I agree that in it's brightest setting it can be irritating, but the level just below that is perfect.
The Front/face of the new Mazda 3's look the best out of all the other cars out there. They should make a sports variant with that face. It looks similar to the Ford Mustang GT.
Very nice car! Interior reminds me of the BMW 1(hiqh quality chic but also a bit dull), but the body work is far better, among the sexiest you can find in this class!
Looks good in white or black, would have seriously considered this but for a price tag of 24-26 for the 2.5 S seemed a little steep (got a 2.0T genesis). But still fantastic car, I had a mazda3 cant believe they're so underrated
Rebecca, you are just simply the best and beautiful. Love your accent and thanks for the reviews. Cars coming up short or full of expectations is something out of your hands but keep up the good and lovely work. I just like you.
Audi A3? Typical German car obsessed British comment. Bought a Mazda 3 2.0 165ps brand new in 2016 and I'm still driving it. Has the entire airdam kit from Mazda too. These comparisons to German cars really need to stop, I wouldn't buy one under any circumstances

Carbuyer fair enough. it is mind blowing to know what little price difference it is in the UK between those two cars. in Canada, its $15,995 vs $31,995
dracolnyte here in czech republic the mazda cost 349900 for hatchback with 1.5 Skyactiv vs the audi A3 Sportback wich cost 560900 with 1.2 tfsi .the audi here is far more exspensive
Nicholas Hobson She was only comparing it to the Audi on refinement (road noise particularly), not the drive enjoyment. It's kind of obvious you're going to expect more refinement from a german luxury brand than you would a mainstream car. Comparing it to a Golf is valid though.
For me the best value car in it's class. But as a Mazda-lover I would like to say sth that surprise me a bit: -Rear design is not attractive like previous Mazda3. -Fog lamp design is not looking that nice on its whole beauty.I guess Mazda will touch there when facelift time comes up.
Because I'm short, I'm scared that the hood of the car is too long. It makes sense since it needs the space to carry all that gear (I'm am not a car expert whatsoever), but I'm really bad at judging the distances of parked spaces with the hood of my car and this mazda 3 seems extra long in the front
My 2016 model Mazda 3's Infotainment console went on endless loop. Hard reboot did not work. Mazda dealership diagnosed it as a dead CMU (the brains of the console). Will cost $1300.00 to replace. They don't know when part will arrive. Last time my rear tail light cracked, it took 4 months to get the part. I wonder how long the CMU will take.
Mazda needs to bring their 2.2 diesel to the U.S. market, and preferably in the Mazda3 hatchback. I see a fair number of TDI Golfs and Jetta sportswagens, I think a Mazda3 diesel could easily compete with those cars.
I can understand comparing cars to the golf for other aspects but for boot space for goodness sake. Its not like the golf has the biggest boot in class at 380 litres its only 16 more than the mazda 3 and anyway the honda civic has a 477 litre boot the new 308 430-470 litres and citroen C4 408litres.
I don’t see what’s difficult: buy a Mazda 3 and you have a great looking, reliable fun car that unlike the Golf, is a bit more unique. Why be as predictable as everyone else who does what’s obvious and buys a Golf, Focus or Astra?
fagAshLil1234 Well, probably because those cars have been reliable for so long, and I too would put my money in a car which I know satisfies me instead of being the only one on the road driving a Mazda3 with a frowned face.
Jørgen Smaavik Fair enough, whatever makes you happy: I’d certainly have a massive smile on my face driving a Mazda 3, I like cars that are unique and a little less mainstream though personally.
Not going to be good buying diesels soon, best to keep to the petrol versions. Wish they used the 2ltr petrol assuming it was launched at the time of the review as I got my eyes on one and like that it has a good mpg rating like smaller cars and fits I the £30 tax bracket, so be good to see reviews, just carbuyer seems better at them.
Thought we had actually got through a review without the stupid Driver Power message.. but surprise surprise, there it was near the end. We get the message!!
Carbuyer, Could you please tell us what kind of spare wheel it.has, whether full size alloy, steel, space saver or none, i.e, tyre.inflator/sealant kit? Thank you.
Diesel, diesel....and you forget to say that Mazda has developed the Skyactiv technology on their petrol engines, probably among the best (and only?) remaining naturally aspirated petrol engines.
This is supposed to be my first car that I'm getting with my own money in about a month! I'm excited guys =)
Im getting the car after 2 months, hows the car? ;)
sweet dreams i have one in color jet black and it is a great car...i have no regrets or whatever about this one..which one you gonna get?
Rik S Im thinking about the red color fully loaded but sadly here the red is about ~$700 more expensive and the weather here is very sunny and hot so never a black one, if they didnt give me discount on the red color individually apart from the car negotiation itself then I might get the gray...ONE IMPORTANT question, I test drove the base 2.0 model and I felt the engine vibration under my legs when stopped in D, do you feel any vibration from the engine in a way that the sides of your chair under your legs go up and down vibrating or its a normal phone kind of vibration

make me cup of tea when you woke up
This is ridiculous, why can't they just admit that mazda 3 is better than VW golf and ford focus? BTW brightness of the display can be adjusted.
Road noise, suspension comfort, quality of materials and space. Given, the mazda is cheaper though.
Because it's not trendy enough. I'd have this over golf or focus. You'd have to be insane to buy a new focus, it's the most hideous thing ever. Volvo did a much better job with V40
Volvo is owned by Ford now. Has been for about five years.
Animefreak242 Volvo is owned by Geely.
@@Animefreak242 Was. And the Best product was Volvo S40. Mazda 3 chassis, Peugeot 2.0d engine and no rust compared to all Mazda's.
You can adjust the brightness of the screen and also in the settings there is a day and night mode for the screen.
She being a woman probaly could not find it !
TheswedishDane She is a woman who owns car dealerships and drives Porsche racing cars.
And Still cannot find the setting on a nav. whats your point ?
My point: being a woman has nothing to do with it.
Bought one a few days ago, great car! Mine is the 2.5 gas engine and drives fantastic. The steering wheel is balanced and communicative. The suspension is hard without being comfortable. I like the styling, well done Mazda.
This is so much nicer than the latest model that's just been released.
I should imagine that Rebecca gets sick and tired of comments regarding her looks...good review
I'm pretty sure you can change the brightness of the screen.
Beautiful curves, shapely rear end...the car looks ok too.
bikephil nice joke
What a beautifull thing! The car looks nice to
***** ahh, the Internet :')
who gives a shit if boot is slightly smaller than it's rivals? if it's comfortable , fun to drive and cheap to run
We think the family with two kids and a load of shopping might care!
Carbuyer

Any update? Did it give many problems?
drove it, really nice and easy. a lot of leg room on back seat.

1:05 nice use of banana for scale
Is it a big banana though? Or a small one?
Excellent review. That's what I wanted to hear. Very precise and professional.
I've been waiting for this for sometimes!!! Thanks
I think mazda3's one of the biggest selling point is the dashboard and the seats but the carbuyer accidently forgot to show it.
I am not a mazda salesman but want to see the new design parts of a new car
I want one video where she eats that freaking banana. I think its time for some fresh produce.
Banana returns xD
Oh, just don't compare golf with this japanese beauty...you can't do that, that's for prison!
Damn that thing is quite sexy. Mazda are getting better and better.
z00h thanks to mazdas kodo body language

I love mazdas. The overall shape reminds me of an S3
How did the Mother Banana spoil the Baby Banana?
She left him out in the sun too long. lol
Let's see that race car for the fire extinguisher???
rx7 lol
I like that it comes as standard with the ZD connect. All cars ought to have something similar really
what about the mazda3 saloon??
Only Chevrolet and Mazda offer small family saloon in UK
Because if you want a bigger car you buy the 6
Palit Weboonlit Skoda rapid.....
Very nice car! Interior reminds me of the BMW 1(hiqh quality chic but also a bit dull), but the body work is far better, among the sexiest you can find in this class!
It just looks beautiful
Looks good in white or black, would have seriously considered this but for a price tag of 24-26 for the 2.5 S seemed a little steep (got a 2.0T genesis). But still fantastic car, I had a mazda3 cant believe they're so underrated
Rebecca, you are just simply the best and beautiful. Love your accent and thanks for the reviews. Cars coming up short or full of expectations is something out of your hands but keep up the good and lovely work. I just like you.
Luv that lol..... becca nana returns
Audi A3? Typical German car obsessed British comment.
Bought a Mazda 3 2.0 165ps brand new in 2016 and I'm still driving it. Has the entire airdam kit from Mazda too.
These comparisons to German cars really need to stop, I wouldn't buy one under any circumstances
Nice review but why you don't show the dashboard of the car ??
The screen is annoying at night because it is too bright?
The brightness of Mazda Connect is manually adjustable in Japan. I don't think it is not so in the UK.
I went to the official site of Mazda UK and looked at pictures of MZD connect. The system looks the same as that of Japanese one.
Guys look for the sedan it is amazing.
why would she compare this car with the twice as expensive Audi A3? if I can afford it, i will always get the A3 over Mazda3
The basic Audi A3 is less than £1,500 more than the entry-level Mazda3. They are definitely comparable!
What if you drove them both and Enjoyed driving the mazda more, would you still buy the audi then?
Nicholas Hobson She was only comparing it to the Audi on refinement (road noise particularly), not the drive enjoyment. It's kind of obvious you're going to expect more refinement from a german luxury brand than you would a mainstream car.
Comparing it to a Golf is valid though.
I'd make your interior more cramped...
I found this review very helpful... i'm rock hard.
I'm quite confident the car has a special screen setting for driving at night.
For me the best value car in it's class. But as a Mazda-lover I would like to say sth that surprise me a bit:
-Rear design is not attractive like previous Mazda3.
-Fog lamp design is not looking that nice on its whole beauty.I guess Mazda will touch there when facelift time comes up.
Matt should have done this review.. Been waiting for it so long.. This is too short
This car is actually beautiful
short and sweet but a brilliant car
Its very pretty. The car looks great too.
Mazda only get better and better!
How is the screen brightness a drawback. U can reduce it or increase it in two clicks
I love this car! I'm going to get it!
The Return of the 5'4 &1/2 and the Banana!
I dont understand... they have the same screen as the CX3 but on the video you said it was too deam... how is it exactly "bright or deam"
I'm always surprised that more people dont buy the hatchback, with more space and better body lines. You lose 1 mpg thats the only down side.
That depends I suposse. In America you see alot of Sedans. But in Eu you see barely sedans. Most people go for Hatchbacks. Bit late reaction :D
Nice looking chairs.
Because I'm short, I'm scared that the hood of the car is too long. It makes sense since it needs the space to carry all that gear (I'm am not a car expert whatsoever), but I'm really bad at judging the distances of parked spaces with the hood of my car and this mazda 3 seems extra long in the front
PetiteCake And what does that have to do with you being short?
PetiteCake the Mazda 3sport nav has front and rear parking sensors as standard and a reversing camera too
Having had an old 3 2.0 Sport and a friend with a 1.6, can't see where the criticism of a harsh ride comes from!
She got me hooked on the video when the made a close up to her face. God she's beautiful.
Love it, looks great!
could you please compare with hyhundai i30 and Toyota? that would be great!
Want to know how it drive compare to the same 2.0 patrol engine Focus. Better or not ?
Mazda needs to bring their 2.2 diesel to the U.S. market, and preferably in the Mazda3 hatchback. I see a fair number of TDI Golfs and Jetta sportswagens, I think a Mazda3 diesel could easily compete with those cars.
Yeah I love the curves ;-) The Audi A3 is more refined probably but you have to pay extra for that!
The banana in the glovebox will fire the boys up!
Banana returns!
Rebecca- you are a breath of fresh air. Morning.
looks nice in black.
I can understand comparing cars to the golf for other aspects but for boot space for goodness sake. Its not like the golf has the biggest boot in class at 380 litres its only 16 more than the mazda 3 and anyway the honda civic has a 477 litre boot the new 308 430-470 litres and citroen C4 408litres.
such unique colour. is it black? green? or greenish black? :D
Exterior is very nice. But with price same as golf, it wont be easy....
No one normal can take a golf over this mazda.

Check sale numbers then and you should have your answer.
Looking good and I'm not talking about the car.
just wondering if dashboard screen folds?
Not going to be good buying diesels soon, best to keep to the petrol versions. Wish they used the 2ltr petrol assuming it was launched at the time of the review as I got my eyes on one and like that it has a good mpg rating like smaller cars and fits I the £30 tax bracket, so be good to see reviews, just carbuyer seems better at them.
Nice car. Great review.
Thought we had actually got through a review without the stupid Driver Power message.. but surprise surprise, there it was near the end. We get the message!!
"The banana returns..." LOLOLOL I love her and random bananas.
you know you can adjust the brightness of the screen right?
Screen too bright at night? Go into display settings choose auto or night mode problem solved
Those are adjustable using the odometer stick/button. Twisting it left or right brightens or dim-ens it
Lol she's a poet and didn't know it
This screen is particularly bright,
Which is really Annoying when driving at night.
+gezzly72 Rhyming a line does not make one a poet.
I read that this car has bigger cargo space than the sedan version. 17 cf vs 11. Is it true or not?
Nick Karipidis totally true, this review isn't doing it right.
Carbuyer,
Could you please tell us what kind of spare wheel it.has, whether full size alloy, steel, space saver or none, i.e, tyre.inflator/sealant kit?
Thank you.
For such a short reviews of everyday normal cars, it would be better if price list is given to the audience.
Prices and specs are always available on our website. www.carbuyer.co.uk/reviews/mazda/mazda3/hatchback/review
Is there sunroof in new models?
this car is better choice than A3 or BMW 1 ... how is Golf (or Focus) gonna match that?

Ne güzel bir ses tonun var senin.
