Nice review, it seems quite well rounded and even in its tones (It sounds good) the gain seemingly getting to a point just a bit shy of all out fuzz, cool. With a hot amp or stacked with another pedal it's there. I don't see or hear anything to dislike about it. Works well with the volume knob too. Some great playing there.
Very similar to my MI Audio Crunchbox. My college sweetheart of a pedal with a nice mid-boost pedal behind it. These days I’m in love with my ODR-1 thru a Fender DR, but the Crunch still comes out on a rainy day with my beat up Blackstar.
I went on a pedal crusade and accumulated about 50 Distortion/od pedals over a few years. I find a lot of them sound the same and then there are the outliers that have a unique voice. My favorites are the Boss OD-3, the Joyo US Dream, and the Rat.
What kinda music you into and what amp you play through? The Rat thins out a bit for me, but got me thinking that an OD-3 might work well behind it as a rhythm OD…then use the Rat to cut the mix.
@@jeffrey.a.hanson My favorite setting right now is the OD-3 into a Bugera 1960 100 watt head (Marshall Plexi clone) with both channel volumes at 3. I also have two Fender Bassbreakers, the 007 combo and the 15 combo with Celestion Greenback. The Rat (my fav is the Digitech Grunge-a modded Rat clone) runs into a very clean amp. The Grunge works well to record direct and find amp software that compliments it well. I play hard rock, metal, lots of jazzy influenced stuff. I also have recorded tons of songs using a Marshall MG100 watt head. Not promoting my music, but I have a song 'April Eyes' on Audiosparx under Kinsey's Razor. It is heavily Queensryche inspired, but the whole song is the Marshall MG through a Carvin 2x12 mic'd with an SM57 and a Peavey M2 Pro condenser.
awesome...u have tons of experience.....I have a delux reverb ...do u recomend the origin fx revival...? Im as heavy as zep maybe some early van halen not metal??? what pedals do u like...lol I hate fuzz..btw did u like this mxr badass?? Thank you
Was never a big fan of mxr pedals in the past but the new duke of tone and this one i absolutely love ...also like the timmy and the variac fuzz ...well done mxr 😉 cool demo by the way!
gets a bit buzzy at higher gains but sounds great with the strat/single coils to my ear. I think this would stack nice with another OD used as a light crunch.
It would "get a bit buzzy at higher settings" depending on your overall setup. That's what the knob extremes are there for. But for the most part, this pedal sounds AMAZING. As an always on drive, it's 2nd to none. With the added boost/cut switch, you can switch to boost and use it to come in when needed (ie solo or passage boost).
Maybe. I have an OCD. This has less bottom, a good thing in a way and more gain. Cool pedal. I only get this amount of gain if I push the OCD with a Fulldrive( green setting) or my MXR GT-OD.
Great playing as always! The pedal sounds great, but is it significantly different in tone or gain range from their Custom Badass Modified OD? I have that and am quite happy with it, just wish it were possible to engage the "bump" button on the fly with your foot. This seems to have the same issue, with the boost toggle switch.
Thee pedals would sell so much better with a foot activated boost! Why not at least do the JHS thing with their Morning Glory optional boost extension?
@@KRAZEEIZATION It has a mid hump. Definitely not flat. But... you have the 100Hz cut/boost knob to really dial it in, unlike regular tube screamers. Also the bump switch will give you a much fatter tone.
Have a modded SD-1 and don't see myself ever needing another overdrive, but I always see myself needing more R.J....you're the DUDE!
That is precisely how I feel about my boss BD-2. If it does the thing you want, don't try to change it. I do want to try an SD-1 eventually though
Nice! Love the MXR OD tones. Amp is of course a huge factor as well.

Just try some pedals out and see what you like. What you play is more important. Get a sound that inspires you and have fun.
The OD-3 is a classic. Not a lot of others like it.
Nice, I really enjoy the Gold one. Use it occasionally as a tube screamer alternative. You made this one sound exactly as a od sould sound to my ear.
My goodness, I love to hear you play!!! This is my second video watching you demo a pedal.
Sounds great!!
Clicked for the pedal, but after a few seconds forgot about the pedal and listened to you tasteful and melodic playing.
Was never a big fan of mxr pedals in the past but the new duke of tone and this one i absolutely love ...also like the timmy and the variac fuzz ...well done mxr 😉 cool demo by the way!
Dude... Awesome playing and tone.
Cómo siempre. Un vídeo mejor que otro. Gracias por compartir. Fuerza.
I really wish I had never sold my custom badass 78 distortion. I’m buying a new one. Also this one too!
That little pedal has some growl. Great job as always RJ. Making that thing sing the way it should !👍👍!
Dude can play !!!! Xcellent vid . Are you using anything else with that MXR ?
RJ is a pro of pros. Check out his resume.
RJ you da man! I like the product.
Sounds good enough to get one ,better than the old to my ears.

Killer playing as usual man! Pedal sounds pretty good too.
I have this pedal and the Electro harmonix hot wax duel overdrive pedal..all I need both these pedals cover everything..
That’s a yes! A super badass yes
just awesome! god! oh yeah!
Inspired playing!
2 min in and that overdrive got more guitar face out of you then other videos

I've stacked 2 Custom Badass to solve this problem. The second one with bump engaged.
@@pierres895 Nice!
I didn’t like the SB Modified OD but the SB Distortion is superb. I bought the SBDOD today.
The overdrive is the "custom badass". That is a modified tube screamer.
I love it though. It's one of the better tube screamers available.
@@endezeichengrimm I found it a bit boring and dry. It’s definitely has the TS flatness. Great with a Tele and the right amp though for classic rock.

This pedal shines for lead playing
Awesome man... Congratulation... God bless you ... Incredible review and sound perfect... 👌🏾❤️
Super james❤️
It reminds me some of a Boss Waza Blues driver and that's not a bad thing.
It is very bass heavy, but it definitely has a unique type of crunch.
I really wish that he would state exactly what amp is being used. There is always a list and we have to guess......
Damn this was a jam man! I got the pedal but now I’m stealing a lick or two from you 😂 cheers!!
Does cleans up rolling back the volume knob?
Beautifully
WHAT WAS THAT STRAT FLAVORED GUITAR WITH THE TWO HUMBUCKERS AND TOGGLE SWITCH AT THE TOP !
some folks are claiming that it's Dunlop's take on OCD.
Seeing how the Fulltone ones are getting inflated in price I'm all about this "clone"
OCD was the first MOSFET od so yeah.
There was also a sought after Landgraff Dynamic Overdrive that was a screamer variant as well, but the mosfet thing wasn’t really part of that
sounds nothin like my ocd
Bad ass
Sounds Good To Me!

😎
Welp, I'm impressed
Hmmmm....MXR OCD?
Maybe. Not listed yet,why?
I own a similar Strat. It doesn't sound as good when I play mine. :)
Sounds like the Fulltone OCD! ❤
nothin like it
❤️🎸🎵🎶👍🙏❤️😎
Why only 720p?
Never mind the question , lol
so is it an OCD ?
Sounds like an OCD. Somebody else here said the same, but their comment seems to have gotten removed.
Same old boring od with a lot of marketing around it and nothing real new.
