How to Sculpt the Loomis Head

- Опубликовано: 4 окт 2024
- It can be difficult for sculptors to get the shape of the skull correct, but we can avoid a lot of mistakes by learning about the Loomis head! In this lesson you’ll learn about the importance of the Loomis method and how to construct a Loomis head by using simple forms and measuring landmarks. Without this method you might find yourself sculpting a skull improperly which can lead to an unintentionally askew face later on. If you enjoy this lesson check out the links below to learn more about it.

i've always wanted to learn how to sculpture a head
Portrait sculpting course coming soon!
I really fancy this course & I'm tempted to buy some clay. I've dabbled in Loomis for my sketching, only half heartedly but it woked wonders.
It's hard to imagine how you could improve this video. Many Thanks.
I love you sir! This is going to help me a lot in ceramics.
How much you can learn and understand with these kind of shapes! Very interesting video

followed along with my kneaded eraser because i was bored, really good tutorial
good idea 👍. The sculptures in the instruction is what grabbed my attention, especially the facial features. very nice, I like that! cool 😎!
This method is simple and fun 👍
You explained very well thanks sir
Wow this is really helpful! I'm gonna by me some clay and do it! Thanks a lot!
This video was great - clear and helpful!
I'd like to try and sculpt my own 'Asaro' head. Do you think the Loomis head is a good place to start, then add the more complex planes of the head? If anyone knows of a good tutorial similar to this, but for an Asaro head, please let me know! Thanks.
That's so cool !
One more thing to learn let's go
Beautiful and scientific basic work🎉🎉
Very helpful!
very helpful!
Very very informative.very very pro. :)
Very useful video. Thank You sir...
We're all going to make it through.
The most important question for every amateur is: what kind of clay do you use? 🙂
Chavant nsp medium clay
@@AndrewJosephKeith OP was making fun of the noob's habit of always asking about materials. closely followed by the noob's conviction that all that is takes is_patience_
@@AndrewJosephKeith
Thanks for the reply.
And by the way a wonderful Loomis head.
I prefer to work with more hard clay and just for that i ask because i notice your clay have this hard looking saturation. Unfortunately, there is no Chavant clay here in Bulgaria.
My little sister's clay from school
@@frankie461
Send lots of greetings to your little sister.
Last night she was amazing.
Me habría venido bien para una evaluación que tuve el año pasado en la universidad. De todas modos es genial 😍😄
Very informative thank you so much sir
Great stuff, thank You!
After learning 3D cad software last year I'm starting to think that sculpture is a really 3D art, not this hardware and cash demanding software showing isometric throw on monitor plane..
I will work on cheaper version, because hobby materials become pricey recently. Ivanevsky made model from led bulb, but he is a cartoonist, so proportions are diferent from start.
All best!
@Funky Koval
A suggestion is to try out "Blender" which is open-source idealist version of Autodesk's different programs (It's a jack of all trades but digital sculpting is one of them).
There are tons of tutorials & some of them might give you some nice to have add-on's that make the sculpting easier. Such as a better optimized Dynamesh; Projected geometry which basically gives you more or less detail to sculpt with.
Worth mentioning is that the industry standard in CGI & games has & still is "Zbrush" but it's a very hefty investment with a bit of an uncertain future as it recently got bought up by Moxon who does not have the best reputation.
Good luck mate! ^^
Edit; typo
Great video mate
If i ever get my hands on some cheap clay i'm 100% going to do this just to have a general model of the loomis head to study
I know it is not the same but you can make play dough at home. You could then bake it to make it hard
Dollar tree in the USA also has cheap non-dry modeling clay that works great!
Thank you so much ! 🐵🙈🙉🙊
Thanks so much 🎉❤
Bro i would loooovr this
I consider sculpture is much like paint art , you should have a talent and ability and so much time spending to impress the audience.
Talent is a myth. Being able to make art is a series of skills that can be learned. All it takes is desire and lots of practice.
We are all going to make it
"Dayum this looks easy"

"WHY IT DOESN'T STICK TOGETHER"
Ur a goo teacher😮
Hello 👋 sir, How Are You Today? Nice 👍 to See You again Sir.
If the knife gets stuck, use a cheese cutting wire, shippiki, garrotte or a Yumi potters tool.
Excelente ótimo conteúdo gratoooo
so good! and what is the material you use to scalp this? what kind if clay?
ótima didática, top!!
let's gooo
Muito bom!!
what kind of clay is that?
If you wanted true proportions, you would cut of the bottom 1/3 near the back of the head.
Ask proko
fk my eyes i watched the whole video thinking its 3k channel but the video is better .. realised its 3M
My room is now full of macaque heads, am still not very good at it however i only been doing it for two days lol
Yeah, keep putting time in lol. Two days is early!
I think sculpy-people usually have a 2-d model to sculpt from, never just wing it
Hi, may I know what type of clay did you used?
Chavant NSP medium is his typical clay of choice
Me one who tried to made this structure with kneading eraser...
This video is supposed to go in Proko3d
We put this on the main channel because even if a lot of students don't want to take up figure sculpting, they may want to make this sculpture to help them with drawing. We've received a lot of comments in the past asking Stan how to make a loomis head for reference and this video covers that. The video is also in the proko3d sculpting playlist.

I don't know
Hi
Chậm thôi
Why can’t they make a paper sculpture? Paper model life size...

There's so much geometry involved in this. Pretty hard to follow unless you have mastered geometry. And it's really hard to see the clay as you're working. Lighting is not great. Disappointing.
This took too long whats the faster method?
Play dough
this guy is really creepy
How
He's not but your comment is.
