So helpful. Thank you. I am currently in Mexico and wanting to improve my Spanish. There are so many courses, app, classes out there that it's hard to know which one to pick. Now I just have to decide between Rocket or Pimsleur.
Interesting comparison. Not interested in Spanish but have started learning Italian to be able to chat to Italian friends and watch Italian movies/tv shows without English sub titles.
Great review and comparison of these. It definitely seems like Rocket and Pimsleur have an advantage over the others in being more comprehensive in their approach. I noticed SpanishPod101 wasn't included in this review. How would you rank it in comparison to these?
In my opinion, no, From my experience, Babbel and Pimsleur are by far the best language learning systems. You have made an excellent choice by combining theese two. Rocket is very good, but it is similar to Pimsleur. 👍
Right now I’m trying to get my doctorate and occupational therapy and I don’t have much time but I really enjoy language learning and think it’s a fun hobby I do believe Duolingo can be effective I don’t know if it’s because I’m an auditory learner but the sentences and phrases I’ve learned and that pretty much never left my mind and I never took any Spanish in school I took sign language but I seem to be able to speak in order food at Spanish restaurants better than my friends who took it in high school. I also feel like with my busy schedule it’s the best fit because it just fits in little chunks here and there and I do find it very fun it’s like my favorite phone game except for I actually feel good about it.
yeah, a pro of Duo can be that it is so game-y and short. like, even if I don't feel much like doing anything, I'll do my one lesson to keep my streak going, maybe two or more to get quests done to get the month badge. it's a good motivation for people like me, even if I don't learn as much as I could if I did an actual course. it is obviously annoying that grammar rules usually aren't explained but at least with Dutch I've mostly been okay xD
So I want to learn Spanish because my 13 year old son wants to learn it. He is homeschooled and we want to make it a family thing. Great video. These were exactly the programs we were looking at. We did the first sample lessons of Rocket and loved it, but it is a bit expensive. We're doing the trial of Pimsleur right now, and it seems good as well. We'll look at the others as well, and hope to make a decision sometime soon. Thanks for the comparisons!
I want to learn Spanish because I want to be able to serve more of the population around me as going into the healthcare field. I had no idea Rocket Spanish was a thing!
I liked Pimsleur Spanish a lot, but beginning from unit 2, I had severe problems with the speech recognition, and often I didn't understand the Spanish speaker because he kind of mumbled. As a learner I need clear speech, especially when I'm learning a grammatical structure. Now I'm with Rocket Languages and it goes much better.
I have some Spanish speaking co-workers that I would like to interact with more. I’m trying to decide between Pimsleur and Rocket. Your reviews are great, but I’m a major sit-on-the-fence type of decision maker 😅
Rocket Spanish sounds good. A traveler approach me in a subway the other day and he only spoke Spanish. All that Spanish class in high school and couldn’t piece together a conversation 😂
Would I benefit from having both Pimsleur and Rocket Spanish? Or combine Babbel or Duolingo with either Pimsleur or Rocket Spanish? Any suggestions on which combination would be most effective? It would be great to have a video on using a combination of these apps opposed to using just one.
Rocket and Pimsleur are so similar that I don't think they would be worth combining. But Babbel + Pimsleur or Rocket would be a good tandem. Also, thanks for the tip about doing a video on app combos.
I want to learn because I like it when people come visit my country and I can treat them inclusively and show my enthusiasm by speaking even just a bit of their language!
I live in a multi-cultural community with many residents originally from Latin America. As a healthcare provider, becoming more Spanish will help me to better serve my community…. Plus I like to travel, so learning Spanish would be helpful there too! 😊👍
I don’t think Duolingo is that bad if utilized. For example, I wasn’t getting much out of just clicking buttons. So; I make notes, write sentences, repeat words, and do bi-weekly reviews. Going through a skill tree took longer but I got more out of the experience. That being said, Duolingo only teaches the basics of a language. My problem is Duolingo isn’t exactly “free” anymore if you are a serious learner and don’t want to wait for your hearts to refill.

All good reasons to learn
Do you have any other ideas besides apps that may help you learn languages as well?
I want to learn to be able to communicate with friends and for travel.
I see you put Mondly up with these apps with Mandarin but not Spanish. Has a review been done for Monday’s Spanish course?
Yes, we have a vid on that!
I meant a video on Mondly’s Spanish course not Mondays
