    They need to make an ultra-micro Focke-Wulf. The new Flyzone AirCore Focke-Wulf is pretty small, but not UM, and probably a bit too big for indoors. I know the FW is a "bad guy" plane, but man is it a good looking warbird. :)

      I find that "Bad guy" planes are underrepresented in the hobby in general. Mustangs, Lightnings, and Corsairs are a dime a dozen, but it is surprisingly difficult to find a good quality 109, FW 190 or Zero.

    I received the P-51 for Christmas. Waiting for flying weather! I can't wait. My first plane and I've wanted one since I was a kid. I feel like a kid again waiting to fly it! :)

    It's funny you mention the P-38 wasn't meant to fly upside down, because that's true. The engines on the real airplane weren't rated for sustained negative Gs.

    • @canoncochran7927
      @canoncochran7927 6 лет назад +2

      the reason the couldn'tgo upside down is because prop planes had carburetors whereas jets have fuel injectors so they could sustain upside down flight

    • @BriannaBeastMode
      @BriannaBeastMode 5 лет назад

      That might be true for your car or lawnmower, but that wasn't the case for airplanes. They had ways to pressurize the fuel system like a fuel injection system, which allowed the plane to fly in pretty much any direction.

    I'm impressed by all of these little warbirds. The counter-rotating props of the P-38 was impressive and added to its stability much as the original aircraft. The multi bladed props on each aircraft was as the originals also. All three are great little pieces of great fun and very realistic.

    One of my best friends has the Flyzone P-38. He's had it for over a year now, and it's a little beat up. However, he absolutely loves that plane, and brings it whenever we go RC flying! Also, he is a crazy good pilot, and he does loops and rolls all over the place with it! I'm personally looking into getting the Parkzone UM P-51, partly so I can keep up with his P-38!

    My friend Curtis gave me his Lighting - man it flies SOOO nice. When my spitfire was working, it was great, but the 2-3 minute flight times kinda sucked. Got used to the old T-28 and P-51 with 7-9 minute flight times.

    Me and some co-workers have about 10 of these guys in various conditions. Because they're brushed they're pretty slow so like they said, you need a few of them in the sky before it gets exciting. I just picked up a spitfire for 70 bucks brand new, very cheap fun :)

    What you noticed about the P-38. The inherent stability of the counter rotation engines. Your Micro reflects the real world experiences of the WWII P-38 drivers. The Real P-38 was a huge 7 ton behemoth of a fighter, yet many an ME109 pilot DIED trying to stay with it in the tight turns of a dogfight. The single engine planes are so much more susceptible to the engine torque and to secondary stalls in High Alpha tight turns.
    The 38 might stall, but it wouldn't flip over and head for the dirt like a single engine plane does. It would just mush outward in the turn. An astute pilot could yank the nose into the turn as the plane was mushing outward to take a shot no other plane could make, except for the Mitsubishi ZERO.

    The real P-38 did very well inverted due to the fuel injection and the TURBO chargers, not Super Charges but real turbo chargers. It was the early spitfires that had a gravity fed carburetor that did not like inverted flight. The engines would quit! Even doing a push over dive was enough zero G to keep the fuel from flowing through the carb.

  • @Chio_OB
    @Chio_OB 10 лет назад

    I more or less learned to fly with the original micro 51, it was the plane where everything clicked, before it was always the need to trim loop, (gotta be able to fly to trim, gotta have a trimmed plane to learn how to fly, lol). It helped it took a lot of crashes (if you cut throttle). I still have it with tiny bright lights, it flies, just. Will put the tbl on another and never fly her again.

    The fuel system on the P-38 limited its negative g time to about 15 seconds so as long as you have positive G forces while inverted the plane would perform fine

    I've got the P-51 and this video doesn't really show how well it can maneuver mainly because of the cramped space. It's really nice to fly outside and do some rolls and loops with. The AS3X is a really nice feature which lets you fly in windier conditions than when I thought would be responsible.

    the reason the couldn'tgo upside down is because prop planes had carburetors whereas jets have fuel injectors so they could sustain upside down flight. my grandfather was a ordnance loader for the first nuclear powered aircraft carrier I know a lot of stuff that I otherwise wouldn't know because of him.

    • @Oz_Gnarly_One
      @Oz_Gnarly_One 7 лет назад

      Alec J I would suggest giving it a go yourself. Download the free plans for a mighty mini and scale them down. It should be basically the same build method. You'll probably be able to use the same 5g servos, smallest battery as possible as you'll not draw much current in a light airframe. I'm not sure what motor/esc/prop combo you should use but you might get that info off other micros on the market.

    • @alecjahn
      @alecjahn 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply. I definitely build more than I fly, and this is a good little platform for experimentation. I may have the parts to "fudge it" a little and still get it airborne. It'll be heavy in the end but maybe just manageable? :)

    Sadly, my AS3X system in my spitfire has gone haywire and the plane is now un-flyable because the AS3X keeps over-correcting and causing the plane to swing side to side until it goes down. Does anyone know of a way to hard reset the brick? I have tried restarting the aircraft and rebinding, but the problem still exists. Man I miss the old non-as3x warbirds - they all still work.

  • @sparrowlt

    I have a Champ and a T-28 both micros.. they are really fun and fly nice but you cant absolutelly have any wind at all.. any amount of wind ,even light breezes will make them dance ..and if its "nasty wind" (gusts, rotos, whirps) they are next to unflyable.
    i have not tried a AS3X plane wich suposedly has to be better at this yet.. but i guess there is a limit on what electronics can do

      "next to unflyable" is is purely relative to your skill level. some people actually enjoy the challenge of flying in the wind. i have even flown my t28 in winds speeds just above the max airspeed of the trojan (it was like flying a kite or slope soaring). of course it was a 1 way trip but it was fun!

    I have the p-38 and Spitfire. The Spitfire is a handful to fly, it's your typical warbird. I'm not a huge fan of the auto stabilization that parkzone is using now either. The p-38 on the other hand, is a dream to fly. I think its more stable than any of UM parkzone planes. Now i never had the chance to fly the new p-51. However I have flown the p-40, (old) p-51, Spitfire, Mosquito, and Corsair. It out performs them all in stability, maby not in speed though. The first time i flew the p-38, i hand launched it at approximately 3/4 throttle. I gave it a little up elevator. It literally went straight out from my hand. No pitching, rolling, dipping, or diving. As far as a warbird that is fun to fly and yet still easy enough for the beginner, you can't beat the p-38.

    • @Tuffenough4u
      @Tuffenough4u 9 лет назад +1

      +bakagamer918 I wish a manufacturer would come out with a micro 109 already. Even a UMX Focke Wulf. The plane choices are starting to wear thin with to many repeats of same air-frames. I want to see some more axis planes hit the market, and some different naval planes like the F4F, F6F, or F8F. I can't understand where the ME 262 is either with power plants out like the habu uses, or the seemingly forgotten Russian Yak-3
      I really like the UMX planes, but what would really make the market pop in my opinion would be planes sized like the E-flite Mustang 280. Those are small enough to still be practical, yet large enough to stay full framed and scale with the possibility to add flaps and retracts to as well. The tech is behind what is out there is all I'm saying

    • @abyssalreclass
      @abyssalreclass 9 лет назад +1

      +Tuffenough4u I agree. It seems as if its nothing but P-51s, Spitfires, Hurricanes, and the odd Corsair. I've seen some really nice looking 109s, but they are all large custom builds that probably cost a lot of money and time, which most people don't have.

    The p-51 and 38 were not designed to fly inverted for more than 5 sec( the real plane) because of the oil pumps wouldn't pump the oil to the motor or something like that...(mostly usaf planes had that problem)

      +Pretzil295 No it was because the Rolls Royce Merlin engine had a carburatior instead of the fuel-injection the Germans had. So when going inverted, the carburator drained, and the fuel flow from the tanks stopped.If you recovered fast enough the engine would resume running, otherwise you faced an in-air engine restart. The German BF109 had an fuel injection engine which allowed inverted flight for at least a limitid amount of time.

    Do you felows, build Balsa tissue?
    I draw patterns, the controls and engines from your broken micro birds,
    would be perfect to retro fit any one, of my 4 patterns,
    P-40,F4U1,Me-109G,FW-190,
    Peanut scale, Not a Item I sell,
    But one I might send you to build if you have interest in such.
