@@TerryEdmondsUkIve just reloaded my technium mags. Been wondering why I’ve a gap at the base of the spool. The technium has one washer at present. Then 5 different thickness washers in the pack. Should I just put them all on. Wish I had watched this first. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Had to come back to give you a like. I stumbled on your video by luck, I always thought the extra washers were for replacements only. I did notice my backward taper but had no idea why it spooled this way. Took all my line out this morning, added 4 more washers, total of 6 and I got a lovely forward taper now which is awesome, thank you very much for your video. The downside now however is that I could have slightly more line on the spool.
Fantastic!!!!...... I watch sooo many carp videos and propably only learn something on the odd occasion but this video taught me something I didn't even know about! Thanks Terry! I'm gonna get playing right now lol
Terry, so glad I found this video, it is brilliant. I have 2 5500's and wasnt sure about the washers. after seeing this, both spools were reverse (thicker at the top). So I added 3 washers each and bam, perfect! Thank you for all your time and effort sir.

Hi Terry hope you’re well will you consider coming again in Romania for couple of days for the carp anglers that are respecting your work and they’re anctios to learn amd see you in action, cheers buddy
Most important thing with braid on spod reels is keeping the braid tight and keeping the braid under the lip. So I wouldn’t I prefer level and the braid a few mm below the lip. This stops wind knots 🙏

Mate I’ve been fishing for a long time but never had the line taper explained so well. I’ve got Basia’s and emblem spods that need adjusting. Where would you find the right amount of washers to apply? Or just trial and error?
Been away from Carp fishing for around 5-6 years. I'm perplexed by just how many new players have their own brand reels and rods and they all look good. Apart from the trusted Shimano and Daiwa reels are there any others that deserve a look at? And great video I've actually learnt something new today so thank-you! 😎
Hi terry thanks for vid. On my 5500 ci4 people say on forums it’s over spooled. But I want the line lay like yours will 6 washers work on 5500 just like your 14000? Cheers
The washers that come with the kits are 3 different thicknesses. Did you use 6 thin ones or 6 thick ones or 3 three thin and three thick or 2 medium 2 thin and 2 thick ones as the thick ones are twice as thick as the thin ones
How many washers would already be on your desk for a even taper ? Looking forward to the spilling up as like you said it's made complicated and lots of companies giving advice. Thanks Terry
Terry good video mate iv just bought new reels and iv put washers on the way you have,by the way do you use ice washers and if your casting distance using braid as a main line what thickness braid would you say is a good and safe diameter.
Don’t use ice washers but have friends that do and they like them. Regarding diameter of braid I use 0.29mm to 0.32mm for leader material so I would say down to 0.25mm you would be quite safe 👍

Hi Terry, it's been quite a while since I had a casting lesson with you, money well spent! Question on the washers/taper: Does the number of washers change depending on the diameter of line change you're using i.e. thing diameter+leader versus thicker level line?
@@TerryEdmondsUk So what have you found to be optimal for both thicker level-line casting/fishing AND thin mainline+leader, in what situation does one fewer/more washer work better? Obviously I'm talking about setting up spool taper relative to casting impact, once you go thicker than 0.42mm I'm guessing distance isn't necessarily your top priority anyway?
I got obsessed with line lay did my head in have now switched to the emblem 45 less fussed. Penn very underrated reels mate tough quality carp reels as they were one of the best sea fishing reels very reliable
Just respooled the Crosscasts from Daiwa, and they spool right from the box. No need for washers for mono.
Do you know how many would a penn spinfisher 7500lc take for a slight taper??
No but usually they are level out of the box. So maybe add one and see. Trail and error but once it’s done it’s done
Can you adjust the number of washers on a spool already loaded with line or do you have to do it before you load the line?
So if line is more at top add washers if more at back take washers off
well done mate a very good interesting video
