    Great information. For surfcasting/rough ground and targeting big fish like Tope would you recommend a Shimano aero Technium Mgs 14000?? i just think the thinner handles on the big pit reels are not quite up to crancking big fish unlike the thicker power handles of the spinning range. I have been told reels like the Technium have a tendency to bend the main shaft on its furthest oscillation form the reel body when fishing full drags and trying to slow the spool with a hand as well.

    Level Lining just takes me back to the very beginnings of fishing in my youth mid 1970s lol wasn’t really that much of a call for great distance casting unless we as kids visited Reservoirs or gravel pits etc you may or may not be surprised but ledger weights haven’t changed that much over the years apart from lead content fishing line was also limited by thickness as well. Although nowadays I visit my local lakes I today still prefer to fish the margins and on out to around 50 - 70 yards usually out to a island or a basin after feature finding. I’m certainly no big fan of syndicate waters with a list of rules longer than the 10 commandments. Basically common sense and fish care plays a very important roll and I go fishing for pleasure and peace of thought and nothing more. I have learned so much more in the last 10/15 years in carp fishing with the many products and information available. Level lining is old hat but still very much usable if or when needed 👍

    • @TerryEdmondsUk
      @TerryEdmondsUk  2 года назад

      Level line fishing has been done forever, trying to cast as far as you can on distance venues that ban leaders and tapered lines is a lot more refined and takes technique and the right diameter lines to stop cracks offs. I agree with most of what your saying but even though it’s as you say old hat the distance being fished level line now is a brand new hat 😂

    This is a really helpful video Terry and Hopefully I'll be putting your advice to good use soon but firstly I have a question that I'm hoping that you can help me with. I will soon be on a very large water with a leader ban so have no choice but to use level line casting when needing distance. Now it gets tricky, I'm around 5'8" and about 150 pounds so smallish and I have some hardly used 12 foot Aviator plus rods and ci4 14000 Ultegras but are they too harsh for level line casting and would I be better off purchasing 13 foot TX2 Intesity Shimano Rods. The Aviators are also a bit pokey with a powerful fish at netting time !

    Hi Terry thanks for the vid. I’m in the market for some rods that are capable of hitting 150yrds, would you recommend all shimano 13ft rods? Also what are your thoughts on tapered line for cast long distance?

    • @TerryEdmondsUk
      @TerryEdmondsUk  4 года назад +1

      If I can I try to avoid tapered lines, I prefer fishing strong throughout, like 0.37 to 140, 150 if I have to go further I will use a tapered or braid leader to a line of choice. Tapered monos are my last resort.

    Like you say if I can I would use a braided shock leader with .32 to .33 line for distance fishing. If I can not use a shock leader I will use a tapered line it just feels so alien to have all the stretch when casting without a leader.

    • @TerryEdmondsUk
      @TerryEdmondsUk  4 года назад

      I prefer level line, just stronger to the reel and more choice. But tapered line can be an advantage occasionally.

    Certainly interesting and good advice. I've just had some 12ft 3lb 6oz aviator plus rods made by Nick Buss. 12 ft was the best option due to constraints with swim space, trees etc. Although much of my fishing is quite close in general, the option of fishing the bars, etc further out is why I've chosen these.
    I know you've used these in the past 😉

    Terry, could you go in a next vid a little more in depth on casting strength, and how to build up towards heavy leads plz.I'm really struggeling on long distance casts.Anything over 100m is non excisting for me personal rigged up.When i go on a 100gram+ lead, it feels like i'm fighting myself more then the rods can handle..and accuracy is at that point more a gamble then a fact .I go on some dedicated casting session's from time to time but the 100m mark is like a barriere for me.A 92gram lead goes with ease further then a 112gram..even iff the difference is minimal in weight ,i can feel the struggle within myself.It feels to heavy and i get insecure on the cast. the gear i'm using is a shimano xs1 intensity 13" rod with a shimano black 12000mgs reel/0.35 line with 50lbs tapered shockleaders in general. So the distance issue is 100% operator based i would say :D . thank you. thumbs up mate.

    Never caught a fish without a baited rig yet... It would be so much better to just show real life stuff, all be it on a field. I suppose people/manufacturers prefer it without, because bigger casting numbers catch more anglers..??

      No it's because dogs use the field of I snapped off I can put them in danger, and it's better to measure accurately over fields. It's actually easier to fool people over water with clips and wraps. This wasn't about selling or impressing it was about advice. But I do wonder why I bothered sometimes. 😂😂

      TerryEdmondsLRA Think you’ve got the wrong vibe from me. I enjoyed the vid. I would like to see a vid like yours but with a rig in place. I understand the dog example but think this can be easily overcome by not using a hook... I sure nobody does this because as previously mentioned the distances with a 18 mm or snowman would be reduced. Still I’m sure there must be a reason because nobody has done it.... Imagine a you tube vid doing something nobody has done before & how popular that could be... If you are worried that people won’t book tutorials with you if say you did the exact same vid (no leader) with a bait & hit 140 for example I think you’d be wrong. I believe the exact opposite would happen.

      @@actionman21 I have done loads of experiments with baited rigs, bags and spods over the field. I haven't any worries about people booking me as technique is everything.
