She went from a cleaner, mature deep voice, to a poppy, higher pitched dudebro sounding voice.
But like...the weird thing is, when she does her sultry voice, it's like a blend of that mature depth and her poppy gravely voice, and it's kind of an improvement on both.

I'd debate if its actually much higher pitched, but its definitely more loose, and easier. Seems like a lot of vtubers go through this phase until they're comfortable with streaming.

Her older voice was personally better
If presented in a vacuum I would have guessed the lower register voice is her real voice and the higher, raspier voice is the one she's putting on. Not to shit on it, quite the contrary. I love Mel's voice, it's really pleasant and distinct.
She got bullied over her voice as a child, so she developed her current intonation. Her normal voice is literally not her natural voice and she has stated that it's a lifetime habit that she can't break. It'd be the equivalent of you faking a "customer service" voice for so long, that you default to doing that instead of talking as you do now.

@@SashraanMusic as a dude who has to speak english coporate at work and french with friends i can tell you i sound like 2 different people (which i kind of am) during those interactions.
So it's definitely a thing that you can make part of you with time until you kind of forget how you used to sound (think in a place where they have a very pronounced accent, you end up adopting it or losing it depending if you live in or leave the place)

She sounds normal in from her past clip but now, she sounds like she has had nasal surgery or is in the process of healing after the nasal surgery.

I’ve known many girls who can make cutesy anime girl voices alongside their normal voice. I guess it’s the advantage of having a feminine vocal cord. But actually I suspect the reason why she changed her voice when talking on stream as melody is because people recognized her voice. Melody used to do NSFW content IRL before she picked up the Projekt Melody handle.
Also sounds like her current voice has severe anxiety as well
I think she has the same problem(?) with the phoenix, their voice is kinda out of the "normal" range so the lower quality mic couldn't pick it up properly, as they get more viewership, they can get better mic and we can hear their normal voice
Mel may be one of the few VTubers whose "fake voice" was deeper than her real voice.
If you go back to old Pikamee stuff, she forced a deeper voice back then as well. Now she's just the kettle we know and love. As a friend.

When I subscribed to melody for vids and stuff, I went back and watched her first videos and was blown away by how hot her original voice was. She's much more adorkable now, but *woof* that old one does something for me.
I actually like her voice from both timelines.
I thought that she actually went up some pitches on purpose over the years instead of her going lower back then on purpose.

Her voice used to sound a little more mature and older, deeper sounding, now it’s a little more squeakish ,young adult , what’s up bro sounding. But honestly I like both timelines of her voice. And maybe from her changing mics a few times we heard more and more of how she really sounds nowadays because , I assume she had cheaper quality of mics to where the mics barely picked up her real voice until now.

You know I’ve seen a common trend that vtubers that start out with a mature and deeper eventually end up with a higher pitched and cutesy voice while the same counts for vtubers that start out with a high pitch voice end up with a deeper one as time goes on.

I think there is a Doppler effect when it comes to vtubers where they start with deeper voices because of tension in their neck muscles from nervousness but the longer they do the job the more relaxed they get and their voices get higher. I also think they subconsciously highten their voices to sound cuter.

I think it's because it was her adult site model rather than the "cleaned up" one she uses for VTubing. iirc she got banned from Twitch early on because she was using the same model and there were clipping issues, so naturally she'd wanna avoid showing that on stream again just in case.

I like her real voice which are definitely those history of hentai videos, its got the same inflection, the tone is to same just slightly deeper and more mature sounding, more mature sounding melody is where its at
