firstly - buy crash bungs or crash cage because if bin it on right hand side , grinds out water pump cover and leaves a huge hole pissing with coolant, so cant really ride it after a spill.
excellent bike gpz500. rode one for two years to warehouse job throughout winter at 4am dark wet greasy freezin nights, finish shift in sunny afternoon , pure bliss. went threw bike front to back over period of year , all but engine rebuild , i would budget £1000 all in to bring bike up to better than new standard , all new bearings , seals , braided lines , pistons brakes , forks new springs , new shock , new shock linkages the whole 9 yards. no real weakness to be honest. bit of a funky riding position of bike ,

Not sure how far I will go with this one, will see how trashed the engine is first.

Just dug mine out from under the sheets in corner of garage and looking for some inspiration . Last run about 6 years ago and was flooding right cyl when not running . Needs similar work, battery, tyres, brakes, chain and sprockets carbs overhauled . Real issue is the linkage for swing arm Has play was flagged up on last mot. Hopefully you will resurrect yours new subscriber regards Rich.

Welcome. Ideally I need to get a donor bike for mine, make one good one out of two.

Looks to me that the shyster that stitched you up ,deserves to be in need of some stitches themselves . Lucky enough the engines were a popular unit & should be able to be sorted given enough spare time . I would give the front fork chrome tubes & fork seals a good going over they looked a bit ropey . All that plastic on faired bikes & scooters is a pain in the arse & hides a multitude of sins & corrosion .

You are right, some you win etc.... Fork seals are shot as you say, and I suspect I haven't yet uncovered all the problems this bike has.

I have a 2007 ER5, ive done 371 miles in the last few days, all fine, today, parked outside a friends, i came out to the bike with petrol pouring out of it, air box was full, and cylinder 2 was full, it hydro locked the engine, bending the piston rod in the process, Kawasaki are shit, ive had 3, all came with major issues.
