Doesn't work in the real world. When someone is pissed off, that stick will get two hits on the rage fuelled person before he grabs you while ignoring the pain, then you'll have to count on wrestling skill or unarmed stand up combat. If you're going to use a stick then use a bigger one such as a staff to keep distance while striking.
I've had the pleasure of studying with Vlad, but not stick work. I've done some with Al McLuckie and Martin Wheeler, though, top-notch stuff. Hoping to work with Vlad again sometime in the future :)

At speed, the attacker is put into a responsive position and the strike would be over before he could manage to conceive of a response.
