In 2004 I started riding fixed gear off-road thanks to a Surly converter for shimano hubs. In 2006 I moved to NYC. I played hardcourt bike polo on a Klein Fervor with rear facing dropouts set up fixed. A few dudes took my bike for a quick ride between chukkers, remembering their bmx days. They got their own bikes to do tricks, FGFS on Thursday nights under the BQE elevated highway in Brooklyn. I never did tricks, but I remember the trend starting after dudes rode my 26” wheeled mountain bike. R.I.P. Wonka.

Technically, there is a slight distaste towards FGFS. From BMX freestylers to track snobs. FSers feel like it's stupid why even do it, and track snobs feel it's stupid, why even do it. Lol
I’d love to learn more about fixed gears history in the Caribbean. I’ve seen “fixes” in 1970s Jamaican movies and hear that they inspired lots of messengers to ride fixed.
Really like the history . Crew currently offers complete 700c and 26” freestyle fixies, think it’s the easiest way for people to get into the sport today.
i loved both mash and macaframa neither was better than the other ,really inspiring videos , makes you wanna ride your bike and get distance and go fast , its all about mobbing through the city, i love the danger card that fixed gear bikes offer
IMO, fgfs on 26 was taking it too far. Tricks on a track bike feel more smooth, spontaneous, and still connected with fixed gear roots. The crazy stuff on 26" bikes feels more just like BMX with bigger wheels.
Or you could simply make a new channel about running, since you're so vocal about your respect to your current audience who was interested in fixed gear and might not be interested in your newfound interest
i grew up riding bmx and now love riding fixed, mostly fast off road tracklocross stuff. for some reason i have absolutely no interest in fgfs. i just like going fast and skidding around the local trails in portland.
Any niche that can hit its limits in a few years is a “fad”, And when people stop because it’s no longer cool absolutely makes it a fad. Some fads are cooler than others, and this fad is one of those.
