Anglo-Saxon Music ~ Bede's Death Song (Northumbrian Variant)

- Anglo Saxon music has returned; this is Bede's Death Song, which concerns the thought of death and the ultimate pondering of one's life at such an event. Sounds even a bit Berber-like but perhaps that's just me. Definitely foreign to the Celto-Germanic sphere.

Fore thaem neidfaerae naenig uuiurthit
thoncsnotturra, than him tharf sie
thoncsnotturra, than him tharf sie
to ymbhycggannae aer his hiniongae
huaet his gastae godaes aeththa yflaes
aefter deothdaege doemid uueorthae.
Fore the enforced-walk ‖ none comes to be
wise to malice ‖ more than him that must
with mindfulness think back, ‖ before his going hence,
/ on what his breath’s ‖ bad, good, right or evil,
after death-day’s ending, ‖ on judgement comes to be.

I would've guessed this was somekind of Central Asian song if it wasn't for the Old English being spoken haha. Very interesting to hear.
The roots of the patriarchal line of Europe comes from the Steppe then down to the Middle East, so hence the connection you've noticed 👍
Anglo-Saxon and Germanic music here and Celtic music from Keith O’Sullivan. You two would collaborate well on cultural tunes 👌
Interesting sound. It definitely makes me feel like a time travel.
Here's hoping that channel comes back man.
Well done Michael lemons, absolutely loving this and the range of instruments and language, keep up the good work
Cheers!
Glad to be descended from these powerful people
do I hear throat singing? :D
Yes! :)
Master piece
Need more.
Very nice
woah, that was a great video, but what are the images you used during the video?
Hi Michael Lemons! My family has been singing a congregational-hymn-style version of your Psalm 3. It's one of our son's favorite songs! Anyway, I sent it to our church (FWBC) and they are interested in having the whole church sing it too! If you are OK with us singing your tune would it be possible to get the sheet music?
Sheet music?! Ah, man. I'm not very bright, but the chords are Dm, C, Am-D in short explication. It's set to the English country dance "The Cuckoo's Nest," an old concertina tune going back to the 1800s. Sorry for not responding.
I turned eighteen a while ago, still no driver's license let alone an ability to make money to put out a free (I want the psalm project to be free) album. Hopefully I can make it happen this Christmas time. I've really backslidden, and my faith's been pretty much crushed but it feels good to help people. Hope you're doing alright, God bless man.
@@mysterymichaelman We love your music! Just because you want it to be free, doesn't mean you can't accept donations from people. Whatever it takes to keep the psalm project coming! We played your Psalm 3 and our church is planning to sing it in April. I don't know for sure, but there may have been a few slight changes: musescore.com/madams48508/psalm-3?share=copy_link
@@Jake12399 Thanks, man. God bless you and your family; it's nice to know I've done some good in this world. Very happy that the church can benefit from it. The first volume should be eastern/Indian themed, I'd say. All scripture-related stuff will be free to download.
The second will be English country dances, and the third I am unsure of. Vocals should be significantly less sheepish as well. You play guitar? Maybe you could merge some tunes with the scriptures, hahah! :)
@@mysterymichaelman I wish I had already been into that stuff at your age :) You been given a great taste by God. I also have a second channel that I made a music channel (mostly folk songs from southern Germany):

Wow, that was interesting. What instruments were you playing on this one?
Tambourine, bodhran, banjo, violin, and cup.
The violin is the same as a fiddle 😊
Has Anglo-Saxon music actually been reconstructed?
I wish our own language can be reconstructed. 😑
playing war thunder while high as balls and listening to this lol
Feels like in in the deep south!
The music from the brittish isles definitely had a influence on our bluegrass music 🇺🇸🇬🇧🇮🇪🏴
Great job! True "world" music incorporated into one song! Bela Fleck couldn't do better! 😁👍
lyrics?
