You're kind of right on the interior wear... I've looked at several of these and you can definitely see the seat coming unsewn, or the plastics wearing weirdly, or the electronic trunk release failing. Honestly, I don't care for the regular/base model 500, I found it kind of... Fisher Price. However, the Abarth version is a completely different animal, I still think about buying one of those, it feels like an 80s turbo car with the lag and sudden onrush of torque. If you could get your hands on one of those, I'd love to see your thoughts on one (especially in Sport mode, which does make a difference on the Abarth)
Interesting they squeezed in the date in the center display gauge. Most cars don't show the date, just the time. Toyota also used to use orange colors on the guages for the sports trim in the 2000s and 2010s, but not anymore
In the mid 70s I bought a used 850 spider. It had only 2 seats and was so fun to drive. The big problem it was terribly unreliable and stuff broke on it all time. The only saving grace is I knew a mechanic who was awesome with Italian cars. They are cute cars and fun to drive if you are willing to put up with quirks.
Hey thanks for the comment! Everry year I think "I should buy a 500"... and then I don't. Hard to justify them sometimes, but man was this fun to me, even in it's base form. :)

The Jeep Renegade is essentially a Jeepified 500X and I _think_ it is still made, so Fiat sort of has a stealth success there. I don't know, I always thought the base 500 had sort of a Fisher Price vibe going on. I suppose a manual one would be a hoot to chuck around city streets, but i have to agree about highway driving. I suspect that thing would get tossed around quite a bit by wind and semis. "City car" is a perfect descriptor.
Jon, last year I was casually looking for a convertible to take out on driving vacations around the back roads of Ontario Canada. With so many virus restrictions up here, we thought that getting a cheap convertible to drive around and see the sights was a good idea. Like you said, the Fiat 500 used is dirt cheap so I considered looking for one. I like the styling. It's talking to you in a retro exotic way like the Austin Cooper for much less money. Concerns that surfaced included its terrible reputation for reliability, new or used. Like the one you reviewed, I could probably get a good one and take my chances. After all, if I wanted reliability I would buy a Land Rover (insert laugh track here). Here is the reason I didn't get one. It looks like you were reviewing a convertible model. It's not a total convertible, the top slides back and the sides remain as they are. Did you have a chance to open the roof? Once it's open it obscures your rear view mirror. You can't see directly out the back. They should have designed it to fold lower like a VW Beetle. If I was looking for a cheap convertible that offers rear visibility I would get the VW instead. We landed up on our driving vacations using our Audi A3 wagon. Quiet, smooth but no convertible. cheers
I never did open the top. As this isn't my car and the owner wasn't right there with me, I didn't honestly want to risk it. Also, I would not have driven around with the top down, for sound quality. So, thanks for the comment about the rear view mirro with the top down because I doubt I would have noticed. Love parts of Ontario and it's very beautiful. I used to spend a week or 2 every summer up there, in and around Hamilton and Guelph areas. Pretty, but y'all talk funny. :) :) :)
I believe if you swapped out your Accord for the Fiat, and had to drive it for the same amount of time you probably would not be smiling so much. Haha! I think it's a temporary joy. This car seems perfect for a 16 year old girl with 20/20 vision, crazy about the looks, and plays their music loud. I have four friends who brought these, and got ride if them for one reason or another within the first year to year and a half. Great content though! 😁
Thanks for the compliment and comment. I don't disagree with you - for ME at my age, this would have to be a second, fun, sunny weekend car. As a daily driver I do think it would get old. In the same way I don't want a Chevy Spark to be my daily driver. BUT, if I were 20-ish and lived in a city and needed something spunky and maneuverable, this is far more interesting than a cheap Toyota is my point. Not perfect, but fun.

Fiats were never popular in the USA and so have been discontinued. The Fiats built in Europe are built better than the ones in the United States. As you know, small cars are not popular in the USA anymore

Didn't go over 45. I drove mine from PA to FL 70mph all the way and was very comfortable.

How do you review rhe car without knowing how to clock the car, and open the teunk with the remote.
How can you review it without going over 45mph and without trying it in the twisty back roads? He missed out on half the fun of the car.
