Take a drink every time a SAM mention Kaiten.
As a SAM main, they got Kaiten when they tied tsubame to Meyiko and with tendo at 100. They literally said they didn't like it (I didn't either). You don't want Kaiten back, you miss the memory of Kaiten.
Kaiten sucked, so did Enochian and Greased Lighting.
SAM feels great; but I really don't think we need Kaiten dude. I heard it best from a friend, "Samurai don't really want Kaiten back, they just want another button to press that matters". And I really think that DT SAM is the best iteration of SAM in a hot minute.
Whether we do or don't probably boils down to preference. I feel like we do push 2 buttons for our burst, its just kaiten was much more satisfying, so no extra buttons needed, just better ones.
As a healer, I'd say it's easier to keep a samurai alive than a viper. While vipers feels like glass cannons lacking any job-specific self mit, Samurai can use their personal mit to help keep themselves healthy. That can be something worth considering when comparing the two adps focused melees.
This, especially with them bringing back some of the older abilities lost into the new upgrade to Third-Eye. It helps IMMENSELY.
Yeah third eye is huge now
It's cause we have a defensive, with a hot and a 9 sec 10% damage reduction, that can stack with our on demand hot and the other personal heal, that can crit.
We're also not flailing around like a child that just ate a pound sugar and washed it down with a pot of coffee.
Personally, I'm neither here-nor-there with Kaiten's removal. The change to Midare Setsugekka being guaranteed critical makes up for the lack of Kaiten now (since most gear's crit rate guarantees at least 150% crit damage, anyway.)
I know it was nice when you had the old Kaiten > Midare get a crit on top of the 50% damage boost, but it would always feel bad if it never crit or DH'd. At least the damage profile has good consistency.
Like Shoha, I wish that Hissatsu: Guren just upgraded to Hissatsu: Sen'ei with a new animation that also kept the line cleave of Guren.
Ogi namikiri is fucking awesome. I started playing samurai first time this expansion and love it. New main lol.
I love it. I just wish I was raiding with it this tier 😢
SAM is still sick, and the level 99 job gear is so tasty.😎
I will check it out, thank you!!
Yeah I like the heavy armor stuff for Sam typically but this set hit a good balance.
Hell yeah same thoughts, a job done right!
SAM main here, I agree on every point, except I didn't mind how tsubame worked before, it was fine and is fine now. Like you said, part of what makes SAM different from Viper is that it is more challenging, and at this point we might as well get rid of tsubame as a button entirely and just add it iaijutsu. That would save a button, and require even fewer changes than getting rid of guren, which I am not sure about. A line AOE makes packs more interesting, after all. Otherwise I just stand with the tank in the middle the whole time.
I'd trade tsubame for kaiten 😂. I'm also ok with the line AOE part I'd still just make it one button if they are gonna share a cooldown
Samurai is as easy as viper
@@Bigalinbklyn83 I'd argue they're both easy, but Viper's braindead. You have zero gauges to manage besides the one naturally gained for your Reawaken. The job TELLS you which 1-2-3 combo to use. SAM still has to maintain a DoT, a kenki gauge, sen, and shoha stacks. For the amount of damage VPR does, you'd think the class would have more depth. Not that the VPR debuff removal really did anything for the class in the first place, I just think there's no trade-off for the absurd damage we do right now. And to be clear, I play both VPR and SAM. SAM's just more engaging.
Lol, no. @@Bigalinbklyn83
Started playing SAM in ShB and never looked back. I love the new additions for DT and the job feels better than ever
honestly dont mind kaiten being gone, now that you have other kenki spenders (zanshin and 1min senei). unlike in endwalker, which was absolute boredom.
its crazy that they thought it was a good idea to take away kaiten without giving anything in return back in endwalker.
Yeah they pulled the Ole IOU back then
Good video. SAM main for life for me, especially since I practice with katanas irl.
I just made samurai quest and make my first dg, it was awesome, you can really feel the power of the strikes. I still didn't play with all jobs, but so far samurai is my favorite of the dps
Just went back to lvling samurai. Loving it so far but I’m only lvl 63. Long way to go lol
Roegadyn SAM? FInally, let's go!
The few, the proud...
Good video. I love DT Samurai. I just miss Kaiten...
Thanks for that and yeah it's like why did they get rid of kaiten but keep abilities like reassemble for machinist? Just so sad
Aren't they bringing it back at 7.2?
Zanshin > Kaiten.
It's still a 50 kenki spender, but it has more decision-making behind it.
@@StriderZessei that's like saying lemons>Honda Civic. Yes they are both kenki spenders, but their function is so different that you really can't compare them. And Kaiten fits the samurai fantasy way too well.
@@yuzuki2385 I haven't heard that...but it would be nice
Zanshin, should of just been the third ogi weave, because it does the exact same damage, same conal spread and if at the end would end up making sense being the attack with the slightly more powerful dropoff (lvl 90 ogi has 75% drop off and level 96 Zanshin has 60%). It eating 50 kenki doesn't really balance anything as that's what? Two Shinten, which was always there? It's also a pointless ogcd.
Guren/Senai is such a simple fix and a pointless separation. Just introduce Senai at 70, give it Guren's pot at that level and then at level 72 when you'd learn Senai, just increase it's pot to what it gets then, and balance it around its dropoff (but later make it stronger by increaing how much it does on aoe.)
Shoha needed to do the single target damage and the aoe spread of Shoha 2.
Tengentsu should just be a straight 10 sec damage reduction with the hot rather than this bait and hit.
Fuka and Fugetsu bonuses should just be 15% now.
Kenki gained from a midare weave should just be 75 from start to finish (it's currently 60)
Hagakure should be learned the second you unlock Kenki.
Fuga is stupid, just replace it with Fuko and just increase Fuko's pot to when you currently learn it.
only job i can play without looking at my hotbars. the muscle memory is even better now that tsubame works the way it does and not a patch ago
Yeah, that's one thing with a job like viper is you gotta be looking at hotbars. Samurai, once mastered, can be touch typed pretty well
7.05 SAM is the best it's ever felt. Honestly. Kaiten has been avenged.
Unfortunately, I don't have a long history of playing as a Samurai, but maybe I can share some opinions as a newer player who started during EW.
Samurai was always my favorite class when I was leveling and trying out some difficult content during EW. Raids, trials, some extreme trials-I always tried playing as a Samurai and felt my rotation was like a fun dance (which is ironic because I made a Vergil cosplay as glamour for this class).
When I played the class during the 7.0 and 7.01 patches, I really felt like something was lost in those patches. Some dynamic, some... something was off all the time. It was like the class didn't have all the power it had in EW, not just in terms of damage, but it felt heavy when playing it. The work was so... clunky, like, yeah, I could do my job, but all my buttons felt so weirdly placed in my rotation, so out of sync.
But this mini rework in 7.05 gave me back everything I had lost. My class feels faster, stronger, more reliable-it was like a cold glass of water on a very sunny day. It's amazing how the class can now do its job so well, how the AoE rotation is very smooth now, and if I'm right, at a 2.14 GCD, we don't need fillers anymore. Finally, I feel the class is what it needs to be.
As a long time samurai I couldnt agree more, 7.0 to 7.05 was a world of difference even though the changes look small on paper. Really happy with where its at now. Was interesting to hear that a "newer" samurai had similar thoughts
Subbed! Can you do a beginner melee guide? Easy melee starters
My brain melts with the position and combos
Awesome thanks for that and I will probably start a guide series and will more than likely start at the very very beginning.
I main warrior on the character I have with samurai but it's definitely a powerful DPS job
Wars kit is pretty nice now I'm not much of a war expert but the job feels...explosive, in a good way
this made me forgive removing kaiten. I'm still not taking it off my bar though
I'd come back to it with all these great changes but i'm having more fun with Viper at the moment with its sick ass animations and faster playstyle. And I prefer the job gear of Viper more too lol.
Viper is very very flashy. I gotta toy around with it a bit more, but I'm just not sure if I like the whole hit the glowy button thing. Either way I've had fun with viper so far 😀
My fav class so far. Just started ff14 2 month ago but man tje queue Times as dd is horrible
ahh yeah, I feel ya dps ques are just gross, If you are really pushing through you could nail some fates while waiting though, makes the wait feel like nothing.
viper has no natural defense in its kit. samurai not only has a natural defensive, but using the defensive also gives you a dps gain. in terms of the dps to survivability ratio, sam is slightly more capable of surviving dumb stuff than viper. therefore, viper gets the slight DPS edge, as it should.
I really think viper just got too much damage cause it's new. Yoshi came out and said viper and picto shoulda caught a nerf but they just buffed everyone else instead
I can never play Samurai again with Kaiten gone, it would be like Black Mage losing Leylines for me.
I've been playing samurai since shadowbringers. Ez S tier .
side note: what eye patch is that in your SAM glamour?
That's the level 99 job armor. You get can get it free in tuliyol
well Viper is new job they need to promote it
wouldnt Kaeshi: Higanbana work out in twin boss fights? But given taht its just 1 Sen I guess you can just keep them up yourself ..
@manchild
Whats your main?, if you have one.
Is it also your favourite?
I bounce between samurai and blackmage. It's hard to say which I like more. I think I like the fantasy aspect of samurai more but blms playstyle is a little more challenging so I love that, what about you?
@@Manchild_Gaming
I play dragoon main but I play warrior for any solo content that the dragoon can't pull off. I like Samurai and I've been learning a bit to play Bard. I've tried playing other jobs as a main but I always end up back with dragoon lol.
@@TomTheOwl68 I sadly never really mastered Dragoon, its fun but i really need to spend some time with it
6.1 Kaiten removal alongside many simplifications? was what made me so upset with Samurai, as the Job truly played itself. DT releasing Samurai with Meikyo tied to Tsubame + Ikishoten as Kenki neutral due to Zanshin costing 50 kenki, Zanshin acting as a 3rd Ogi Slash to me and no sight of Hissatsu: Kaiten or anything " really new " as 4th Eye getting back an auto-activate Merciful Eyes? made me the least excited to play my favorite Job. its fun? its far from the most fun version of what Samurai was for me, mhm
Started ShB and after trying every Job? only Samurai was appealing. After being DPS / Parse shamed on my Samurai? It made me obsess towards dealing good decent damage which lead to me finding out layers of depth to optimizing Samurai gameplay. These added layers of depth was fun, satisfying, it felt like i was mastering something and where-ever I went I made Runs faster with my DPS being impactful. Be it in dungeons where I properly aim my Tenka Goken cone, to joining PF parties and even VC's hearing praises on how happy they were that " this player " was on Samurai. Samurai wasn't difficult, but you can sense a big difference between an off-role Samurai vs a Samurai main.
Sadly... in EW, overbearing simplifications took away so much depth in Samurai... from Kaiten weaving, to Kenki management, rotation to Shinten Spamming all day, down to even my AoE homogenized to Circles with spamming more Kyuten then ever which is more Circles. Iaijutsu wifi reach? i guess its a QOL but it made Samurai easier to play not that that's bad? but its coupled with gigantic massive hitboxes in EW, making uptime that should feel satisfying a literal joke... Paired with every big hit now being an Auto Crit? makes the Job not only soulless but weightless as when when I always Crit? it feels like I never Crit at all. Top Dog DPS? i could care less, my Job became the least fun Samurai version it ever was for me... Runs weren't quicker anymore cause I played Samurai or however much time I spend trying to get better at it... it was cause " a Samurai " was in the party, and it didn't matter who piloted it.
DT addressed some issues after also fixing Meikyo being tied to Tsubame being a terrible change, it does feel slightly better then EW as it gives back some flexibility and optimization like holding a Tsubame cooldown for an upcoming AST card. Its the tiny things. But still no Meikyo. Senei is sitll not combined with Guren, I agree with your suggestion as its a suggestion I made so many times on the forums. Meditate could refresh Fugetsu and Fuka buffs that would be a great QOL.
So DT Samurai currently as of 7.05 is more fun then post 6.1 EW Samurai? but they promised us something new... after Kaiten removal, where is this something new?
- Zanshin is technically a 3rd Ogi slash its even a Cone
- Tengentsu? is just 4th Eye with inbuild automatic Merciful Eyes
- Tendo? that's just Midare 2.0
- A Tsubame after every Midare is just more Midare
- Gyofu? is just Hakaze with a new dress
So after Kaiten removal I expected something worthwhile replacing Kaiten gameplay, something " New " and I don't see this " New ", that's also all the Kaiten naysayers reasons to have Kaiten removed something new of a skill besides everything being the same. Its more of what EW Samurai was, its not bad, its not that its not fun? I just don't feel like this is the most fun version of Samurai to me. Hell we compressed Shoha with Shoha 2 for even more space great? so where are all these players who thought giving up Job features like Kaiten for something new was a good idea? I don't see this something new... its more of the same.
It could be a lot better. Hell I had it better. But that's not the point or the consensus of the community. The opinion of the Community? is to not aim for better with our feedback... cause " it coulda been worse "
Zanshin is everything Kaiten was and more.
was a sort of lie, when they said kaiten limited them in creativity, and removing it will allow new things.
The job is far from having anything new, which is fine, because the core of the sam works well and don't need to be changed radically.
But like, I dislike they use fake arguments and lie.
The real reason of kaiten removal, is the same reason why they changed how critical hit works on Sam.
It's to make the life easier for dev to calculate dps checks and such. There was too much fluctuation and rng for them to calculate sam and some other classes.
It's why they made these lame changes just before DSR. To make the life easier for themselves, and not the players.
@@StriderZessei there is nothing special about Zanshin. Just a kenki sink added in the easy meta of 2 minutes they are shaping for every jobs.
In term of fantasy, a weird animation of the sam flipping and doing an aoe.
@timou_93 We have our 50 kenki spender, so gauge management becomes more important. We have a new oGCD that needs to be used in buff windows. It's a cone AoE, so positioning is important when using it on mobs.
Kaiten was literally just, "save 50 kenki to spend before every Higanbana or Midare." No decision-making or skill expression.
@@StriderZessei they just shifted a 50 kenki spender to another one.
And gave back a little of AoE positioning which was standard in the AoE rotation before they changed it.
Nothing new .
I want them to bring back Kaiten, but also make PvP abilities available in PvE, like that cool gap closer, the limit break finisher, and the ice AOE ability. Those are all so cool that PvE Samurai feels incomplete without them
I havent really done much sam PVP to be honest. I just dont favor mellee jobs too much when it comes to pvp, but their LB is insane....
I think they intended Viper to be that strong because despite it being really easy to play, unlike Samurai, it has zero defensive cooldowns and you can only rely on RA self sustain. Well and truly a glass cannon. If they nerfed it and buffed SAM, I think far less people would play it, and for a new class, that's not good.
I think you are right about that. Viper and picto are very strong and if you want a new class to be liked well good numbers is a decent start.
Viper is too braindead to be as good as it is.
@@StriderZessei I think people need to stop using the term Braindead, because it loses all meaning when it’s applied to pretty much everything.
@@StriderZessei also, I’d argue that Machinist is even easier to play than Viper but it has even less risk for the reward, and even then, most people agree it should be far stronger than it currently is.
@@Sorakingdom4 MCH isn't topping fflogs.
not sure if you noticed but DT sam is literally the same as EW sam plus the pointless tsubame addition and as much as kaiten is everyone's favorite meme i frankly believe the job is way worse without it, both in the way its power fantasy and complexity
It's literally the same except for the changes listed in the video. And I had mentioned in another comment. Machinist reassemble is the same thing as kaiten basically, yet they keep it in game for some reason
