  • Welcome to this video ‘A Rail Holiday at St Germans’ 14th to 21st June 2024 (Running Time 20 minutes 13 seconds).
I spent a week staying in the Old Luggage Van at St Germans Station. The Luggage Van is one of four carriages at the site where you can take a holiday. It overlooks the up platform and is the perfect location for spotting trains.
In the video I give a tour of the accommodation as well as providing information about the other carriages together with contact details for Rail Holidays.
St Germans is a beautiful location within the Rame Peninsula and is only a short distance from the fishing villages of Looe and Polperro along with the beautiful beaches and rugged cliffs of Whitsand Bay.
The trip brought back many memories from my time living in the area nearly 30 years ago.
In the video I also show a selection of the trains that I saw during my stay including Castle Class 43 HST’s and the GWR Riviera Sleeper Service from Penzance to Paddington.
This is the first in a number of videos coming from Devon & Cornwall where my interest in railways began back in the 1960’s.
I hope you enjoy watching it.

@@user-hy3gi9zx2m Yes, it is a magnificent structure. The stone viaduct is built over the muddy estuary of the river Nidd and its piers are 18 m (58 ft) below the water. Its maximum height is 32 m (106 ft), it has seventeen arches, and is 298 m (978 ft) long. It is close to St Germans Station, which is a well preserved example of a Cornwall Railway station, with single storey plain buildings, rendered and with flat awnings. It is a Grade II Listed Building. Best Wishes.
