i bought now pre-used Nikon D5200. Really good camera, both, for photo and video. Camera will shoot perfectly, if you know how to use CORRECTLY all the settings. If someone says that D5200 is no good, he just doesn't know all the settings.
Yes! I bought it for a photography unit on my university course and it performs very well. I would recommend buying a separate lens though as the stock lens is serviceable but not great. As the video says however, it is recommend to only use it for photographs.
I think so. It only takes a few minutes to learn the very basics and then anyone can take a half decent photo. The different settings aren't overwhelming and there aren't too many buttons. I'm happy with mine but I only use it occasionally so I've never progressed to learing everything the camera can do. I'm very happy with the pics I do take though.
I love how you appreciate a nikon slr for filmmaking. I usually hear people say go for canon if you're interested more in video. You just proved that even nikon can make it too. Thank you!
I still don't get one thing... if someones wants to make video, why should he take a photo camera? People buy video cameras and want to take photos with those... and other people buy Photo Camera, but all they want is taking video. Can a photo camera replace a a video camera? Although it goes near... it really can't and the same goes for a video camera on taking photos too. Companies add features like video and etc..on a photo camera not to fulfill your needs, but to gain market. I still use Film SLR among DSLRs and just in 2 occasions i had to use DSLR as a video camera (once to test and second time just because my camera went out of battery on a birthday)
work with what you have - who knows they might have it laying around, second hand, what they picked but optimally in a perfect world of course - I'm all for buying the best gear for your needs
There are better video cameras but for still photography still fine. One surprising is I though a manufacturer had to support their products for 10 years after it’s sale.
If we talk about only photos,no doubt, it is great with correct lenses. I am still using d5200. Unless it's professional, this would be a better buy if Nikon still offers.
I didn't know they discontinued support for this camera. I bought one in 2013 and have barely used it (apart from for a few important things.) I recently started to use it again and I'm concerned that Nikon won't be supporting the camera, do they expect people like me to just buy a new camera? I'm not rich.
You can buy cheap video cameras that are made to shoot HD video, while the 5200 is for pics. I have tried both for video and picture taking and and the video camera sucks taking still shoots but does a great job taking video and the same goes for the 5200 it takes great pics but I would not want to use for taking videos.
From a photography stance the D5200 is still quite a useable DSLR allowing somewhere around 500 shots with one battery. It has a 22 megapixel CMOS sensor that produces images at 6000x4000 pixels. It’s not weather sealed and lacks Pro features as well as being terrible in the dark however it always was an entry level DSLR. It is still however capable of producing some stunning still images in 2019. I would suggest that any videographer take a look at the GH5s as Panasonic have pretty much nailed it when it comes to video. Even then the GH4 is a giant leap over the the D5200.
YungTabernacle I have a D5200. I leased 3XGH4s for a year or so.The D5200 took better photos. The GH4s better videos. The GH5 is the current model. There are other options to buying outright depending on your budget and needs.
I just turned it on and i couldnt even take pictures without it constantly reajusting its lens and stoping. I dont know how to use it at all but its frustrating that the camera isnt ready to just take pictures.. If anyone knows what i need to do please let me know
i'd recomend that too... but keep the d3100 as a backup or even a second camera... that way you can cut the scenes together from various angles... that looks massively professional ! ;-) try it out... my tipp is to turn the auto exposure off when filming with dslr... the narrower the dynamic range... the more the auto exposure kicks in... and the d3100 has a slightly narrower DoF than the 5200... so it would look strange on set if you leave it on auto ;-) For cinematic look i recomend you to put both cameras on 1080 24 fps ... with manual exposure. Use the color profile "vivid"... unless you want to do more work in the post production... in that case i would leave it on "Neutral". Like so you get a more flat image... that can become gorgeos in adobe premiere pro ;-)
To futher add, faster lens, and lower shutter speed - but also use external light (ruclips.net/video/cVk3P8bl0y4/видео.html) OR rely on lighting such as from a lamp outside or from stores if you're outside
eatjinskookie its ok but for video it sucks, the autofocus is loud and not very fast, for pictures its amazing! Workable for videos too just not as great as canon for videos!!!

Takes good photos. What more do you need. Keep it until it breaks all upgrades have very little extra to offer!
these days , newer is worse.
I'm still using D5200, D7000 and D90 as my gear, I'm already convert the D90 body to IR full spectrum conversion to make more fun photos
I'm buying a 2nd hand D5200 for my 1st dslr. Is it a good camera for an amateur?

Great camera for novice/hobbyists/beginners 🙂

yes!
Quick question I’m using a d3100 lol I know ancient. Would this be an upgrade?
the d5200 is still much more capable than a 3100 - bigger sensor, flip LCD, and video capabilities

Do you have a good way to overcome D5000 series low light capabilities, without having to much noise? I use the D5600
Stevenson Chittumuri I have a D5300 and it's great. As far as low light, add some light. If you can add an LED to the hotshoe.

wait, so you are saying that D5200 released in January 7 2013 is old, but you recommend D5300 which was released in October 17, 2013? lol

Should I still buy it but already have a canon t5?
For everyone, for movies? Buy digital camera not a DSLR...
Hi im thinking to buy this for photography only. Is it good for it?
yes
nikon d5200 vs eso rebel t7i?
Old is gold
as long as it shoots and can film 1080p anything is possible
Is it good for both video and photography?
yes
