  • Jennifer George is the Women’s Basketball Strength Coach at Rollins College as well as the Director of Sports Performance at Bishop Moore Catholic High School. Jennifer is also the Founder of Girls Basketball Worldwide Foundation, a youth organization based in Orlando, Florida.
Al and Jennifer talk about women’s sports and certain challenges that women face when they’re playing a sport to its fullest potential. Although the United States has done better when it comes to bridging the gap between male and female sports, it’s still not perfect.
    Key Takeaways:
[1:33] A little bit about Jennifer and her athletic career.
[3:07] Jennifer shares the moment she knew she wanted to make basketball her career.
[8:49] What kind of challenges has Jennifer faced in her sport’s career?
[11:07] 40% of girls drop out of sports in middle school due to lack of opportunities.
[12:41] Representation matters at all levels, and not just in sports.
[14:14] Jennifer is passionate about closing the gap between male and female sports in the Caribbean. She explains how it’s different over there than it is in the United States.
    Tweetables:
“I had a passion, I would do it for free. I love training people."
"40% of girls drop out of sports because of lack of opportunities and lack of skill sets."

To fully develop athletic potential and become an impact player in any sport and in every game, VertiMax performance training equipment will deliver the speed, vertical jump and explosive power performance teams and individual athletes need to excel at any level. With over 50% of the NFL and NBA including 70% of Division I colleges and thousands of high schools and families using our performance training equipment, VertiMax is recognized as the world leader providing the means to develop the fastest most explosive athletes in any sport from youth to pro levels.
The Vertimax V8 system (www.vertimax.co...) is the most advanced system developed to allow athletes to engage in effective light-load, high speed training that optimally promotes rapid force production to maximize explosive power and speed. The V8 system provides eight adjustable load resistance bands enabling athletes to load up to eight individual locations on their body simultaneously for optimal sports specific performance development.
The Vertimax Raptor (www.vertimax.co...) is portable resistance training that can allow athletes to train on-the-go. The lightweight Raptor system that utilizes the patented VertiMax Elastic Training Technology to develop athletic speed and strength. Raptor Provides a mobile solution for teams and individuals by quickly strapping to walls and fences, inside a facility or out on the field, allowing athletes to train with resistance out to distances of 45 yards.

Optimal development of athletic speed and power is achieved by maximizing the rate at which muscular force can be generated. The faster an athlete can generate force, the more explosive they are going to be. As an athlete's explosive power increases, so will their ability to accelerate and jump. However, it is very important to note that the strength an athlete develops in the weight room will not effectively translate to explosive power in competition unless low-velocity powerlifting is combined with light-load high-speed explosive training.
Being strong doesn't guarantee you'll be explosive. The stronger you are the more explosive potential you have. However, an athlete's explosive potential can only be realized if their strength can be optimized for maximum rate of force production or power output. That is accomplished by combining traditional weight training protocols with EFFECTIVE high-speed light load training. I emphasized effective because many of the elastic training devices and techniques which this video points out do not effectively load the initial phase of explosive movement. VertiMax corrects these problems to create the world's most effective sports performance training system.
