January 2023 LabCoP ECHO Session: The Revised and New ISO 15189:2022 - Part 1

This is the first session in a special four-part series dedicated to the revised and new ISO 15189:2022 standard that specifies requirements for quality and competence in medical laboratories.
The ISO15189 standard guides medical laboratories to plan and implement actions to address risks and opportunities for improvement. In addition, the adherence to ISO 15189:2022 is also recommended to users, regulatory authorities, and accreditation bodies for confirming or recognising the competence of medical laboratories.
In this session we reintroduce key principles around laboratory quality management, including the role of the standards, followed by an overview of the changes to the 2022 version. We discuss the ISO15189 terminology, alignment with other related international quality standards, and their implications to practice.
