From the interviews I've seen about the song, it's not about anyone specific, but here's an example of what he's said:

what I said was what I heard online and off. The whole Sarah thing is just a rumor, but I had heard somewhere that he confirmed it. I have yet to find a confirmation that it's about her, and what he said in the above comment really changes my point of view on what the song is about/what it's purpose is. I'lll look for a confirmation on the whole Sarah thing, just to make sure it is/isn't a rumor and tell you more if I do find anything.

This song gives me so many feels.
I've heard this song more times than I could ever keep track of, and I don't think I'll ever be sick of it. Honestly, I was a little iffy about listening to the acoustic version, just because it's got the funky sort of electro-ish music. But this...this is the more absolutely gorgeous than I could have ever imagined. Why did I ever doubt this???
Ok everyone, let's make something crystal clear. In an interview, Brendon said he hasn't written any songs about Ryan on the latest album. _That includes this song_. Besides, even he _did_ write something about Ryan, it's none of our business unless he says "yes, that is what this song about". That is the only time you have the right to talk about his private life.
Now, that being said, this is a beautiful song - one of my favorites - and his voice is perfection. Love you Brendon. :-)

For the record I’m pretty sure this song is about Brendon’s first threesome experience thus the name girls/girls/boys. Also because brendon was not married at this time (and even if he was in a relationship, that doesn’t mean he didn’t have a threesome)
