In my fervent imagination i pictured the story behind this gift, the owner had this sword on display in his home, but it wasn't safely out of the reach of children, so one day his littlke kid took the sword to play with it, his wife witnessed it, and got mad at the guy for not having stored the sword correctly, and so she ordered him to get rid of it, or else, and so he gave it to Skall.

As far as I know he does
He's also Scandinavian by birth, and all Nordic languages are Germanic in orgin except for Finnish and Sapmi.
Which means it's far easier to learn German well than for example French or Portugese.
I've always thought that Cara might be German due to her accent, so maybe Skall learned some. Pure speculation though, maybe he took German in school or he's just very good at picking up languages. :)

@@geyotepilkington2892 He's had to sell some of his collection in the past because he's got bills to pay, and he has to facilitate new content so when he sells his stuff to go towards buying new stuff for more content and to pay his bills (second part not too sure but it would make sense). Stuff like this probably would be on the last of things he'd sell though, because it's a gift for one thing and it's something that he's wanted for a while.

An interesting tidbit: while traditionally the Gallowglass was a foreign warrior paid in beef, within a generation or two there were a great many native Irishmen also fighting as Gallowglasses, while being paid in silver.
Also, while the longsword (and later greatsword) were very famously used by them, the other famous weapon was the "Sparth" axe, the pike, the longbow, and sword and shield.
In a zombie apocalypse I would rather have this one, instead of a katana.

The comparison is a bit lacking as this is a two handet Longsword while the Katana is more of a one-and- a-half hander and is quite a bit shorter. A Tachi would be amore apt equivalent.

Well it's important to mention that the Gallowglass had a lot of native irish within their ranks. Also this video has nothing to do with the anglo saxons who aren't celts. You're probably English or of english decent and just wanted to try and paint the vikings as similar ilk to the anglo saxons, which they weren't.
@@thenextshenanigantownandth4393 of course they are. they are all germanic and the angles and jutes even came from the exact region that would later be called denmark, with the saxons just south of it. identical culture, same people.
furthemore, the european continent was inhabited by celts as well befor the germanic tribes came from the north and intermixed with them like they did in england and ireland, so they probably had quite some celtic blood before they came to the islands. celts and germanics are close brothers anyways.
