Weathering the storm! 90 Minutes Closer to Antigua

This is the first of a series of inspirational videos from adventurer Peter Van Kets.
The past two weeks have pretty much created chaos in most peoples lives and will continue to do so in the coming months. There has been a phenomenal amount of news spread through social media. Some of it real and some of it not so and the latter creating much panic.
The restrictions set in motion have crippled many small businesses and the economic outfall from the Covid19 outbreak has much greater reach than we could ever imagine.
I speak at conferences and so my own business has come to an end - for the time being. It’s extremely stressful because this could continue for months. However, every crises that I have ever experienced has always been a time of personal growth. I’ve learned my greatest lessons from disastrous times. Now is the time for growth, whatever that may mean for you.
We are all in this storm, but there is somethings that we can do now that will make us better people. That will change the way we operate our businesses and our relationships with family. There are always opportunities to take advantage of in a storm. I don’t know what that is for you, but we need to pro-actively look for these things.
Our greatest stumbling block, however is fear. Fear is an immobilizer! The Covid19 virus outbreak has created enormous amounts of fear throughout the world. It changes the way we think and the way we behave. It’s been interesting to see how purchasing and stock piling toilet paper is as a result of this fear. Research why on the great god Google and you will be amazed.
People often ask me what my most fearful times were on my expeditions and there have been many. Without doubt, being alone on a 7 meter carbon rowing boat with 14 foot carbon oars in the middle of an Atlantic Ocean electric storm with 100km per hour winds and massive swells, tops all fears. It’s heart-stopping thunderous ‘violence’. There is no hiding place. No place of refuge.
For many it feels like that now.
Over the next few months I will be posting weekly (maybe more) inspirational RUclips videos on my channel. These will not only inspire (hopefully) great change during this time, but also provide some tools to take advantage of the storm, whatever that may be for you, because it will end. The story we will tell one day about this time will be determined by how we handle the storm.
