Thank you very much for the video. I had the same problem with my weed eater. The pull cord entangled with the fan and the fan broke apart. The oil was also leaking. The new oil pan solves the problem. Get rid of the pull cord and its assembly. Just use the cordless 21-volt battery operated drill and electric starter. It is very easy to start with a drill than pulling the cord.
The new fan flywheel and crank assembly, will probably bend out towards the engine, and spread the starter dogs so far away from the plastic cog on the recoil starter, it will fail to start. Unless they increased the gauge of that stamping, you will be dead in the water again, very soon my friend. Pull the starter very gently after this repair. Hint: Draw the piston up to the beginning of the compression stroke. Pull gently past the compression stroke, then pull fast. I bought the drill/clutch starter attachment. and start this 4 stroke now with a fast variable speed 120V electric drill...... (Start drill slowly). The adapter is mint. It's the best way out of this issue, and this manufactures faulty design and slipshod........ (250.00 bucks out the window) After 4 hours of use, mine is already leaking engine oil from somewhere. Does the word LITHIUM POWERED ring a bell? (BTW, Never leave those electric tools in the rain!)
My weedeater started having this same issue a year ago so I bought the quick start drill bit and everything was fine until the what I am assuming is the fan (flywheel) broke and folded over, keeping it from cranking over. I tore it apart and was able to break the rest of the blades off and it will start now. How long do you think this thing would run without that fan?
I don't think it is actually the flywheel. It is the part that looks like a metal fan and has the catch levers attached to it. I assume it also has some cooling functionality
amazon no longer carries this part. Found it reasonably priced at Pro Parts Direct. My trimmer dumps all the oil when it gets hot. Compression good, no oil in exhaust, so am guessing the seals on my pan leak.
I thank you for a well educated video on this specific project because it's the same problem I have with mines, only thing is that I didn't see the link to where I can order the parts from.
So I install this part everything fits great but when I go to put the recoil on there as soon as I get it all the way tighten up it won’t turn must’ve taken it off 20 times and it has the same thing what is going on in the motor is not locked up.
Sorry for the late reply. I actually had one of the C-rings come off and the "better" metal part ended up getting lost. I noticed it was a bit loose when I put it on originally. Others have just purchased a square bit for their drills to get it to work that way instead of a pull start.
Great video, only thing you did not do is show more detail on putting the oil pan on over the pin on the crank shaft, you kind of omitted that, which it probably the most important step. Otherwise a home run.
The new part is crap also. i have went through 2 of the oil pan replacements because the flimsy metal it is made out of where the ratchets are mounted on to the fan assembly. This weedeater is about the cheapest made piece of equipment made to have the troy bilt name on it.Every year i have to replace something on it, never will i buy another of these.
It's a Craftsman/MTD with a red housing instead of gray. My plastic pieces are totally missing and I assume they fell through the cooling vent holes because I disassembled it on a table and there was nothing on the floor where it was sitting, but one tiny spring remained. I ordered the quick start bit for a drill instead of going through this, and because those parts weren't visible on the diagram and I wasn't sure if they came with the oil pan.
@@ddavey2020 It's less than $11 for the drill attachment on Amazon and I don't have to disassemble the engine. I'm confused about some contradictory information regarding lubrication though, because I always try to keep my unit close to level. The manual tells you to turn the attachment for edging and not the entire unit, but some online are saying that because the piston doesn't lubricate well it should be rotated periodically? I am aware of plastic parts and I am careful to not overwork or overheat anything with a small engine, and I am very much aware of the importance of oil in air cooled engines. My unit is several years old but it's at my vacation home and I often hire someone that uses their own equipment, so even though I have several attachments, it still hasn't seen much use.
Thanks for the walkthrough! Both pawls (catch levers) broke on ours, so we will be swapping it today, and it needs an oil change anyway.
i as well want to thank you for this video. i have the identical problem with my tb625ec and you saved me alot of time and made fixing mine easy!

Thanks for this video. Made replacing mine so easy. Also, thanks for attaching the Amazon purchase site.
Thanks, awesome video, ordered the parts and now the plan is to have it up and running this weekend.
Thank you so much for this information.. came in clutch with the link to Amazon too.. this is exactly what happened to my Troy bilt .
How do you remove the pull start cover. The video started with it already removed
How do you get the pull start housing off?
Thanks for the video, very helpful, I just pulled all the broken innards out and use the start drill bit with my electric drill
Thanks for video now i know what I need!
Great video, thanks for posting. Is it possible to just buy the oil gasket?

so touching for an excellent video
Nicely Done Thanks 👍👍

thank you so much for this video.
Great video.

Is it not possible to replace the catch by itself without replacing the oil pan?
Yes, Pawls kit is only $7 on ebay...ahahahaha, either he is gullible or typical mechanic

Super helpfull!!! Thank you.
Thanks, great video.
Hello, I do need an oil pan gasket as well, where did you purchase your parts from?
Good video helped alot
Still got the old one; I could use it! My wheel broke in half.
If the pawl is the only issue try MTD 75308159 Pawl Kit and save some trouble.
what is that little thing that is broken off called thats the only part i need?
Starter pawls.
How much does it cost

Could the coil on the pull string be backwards ?
Did that prove to be a better part?
No, i can tell you for a fact that the new part is cheaply made and will fail within a year. It's a cheap piece of crap.

So when the the little plastic piece breaks, you have to open the crank up? Holy crap. Why design it like that for replacing a 5 cent piece.

I had the same issue. I bought a Husqvarna this week.

@@OtayBuckwheat I ended up having issues with this part as well. I agree that the drill bit would probably be best!

Could have spent 5 bucks on a pawl kit...
