I was just to young to legally drink but looked old enough to get in to Gregson's Well, I lived in a street off West Derby road behind the Palladium Cinema and Gregson's was a great place for entertainment at the week ends. This brings back a lot of memories.
When my mum passed away in 2010, I found an old LP of the Spinners featuring this song, her and my late father attended a number of their concerts in the 1970s at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester. The particular recording on the LP was shown as being made in 1963. Given the date shown on the poster, Thursday 1 July, that dates the year of this version almost certainly to1965, as that year, July 1 was on a Thursday. The hairstyles and age of the singers at the time would confirm this. A great song, forever it will always remind me of both my parents and Salford (not my own home town, I'm from Manchester, as was my mum, my dad was born in Failsworth, Oldham).
I used to love the “ Gregsons Well” Pub. It had such an atmosphere, especially when the Spinners were singing. As a proud Scouser, I spent many, happy hours of my youth in the wonderful clubs of Liverpool in the 60s . Happy Days, gone by. Cliff ( the Black Lad used to live near me) in the early 70s.
Amazing..
Some of the best lyrics ever written

Thank you for sharing these. They're as much historical documents as they are music videos.
Brilliant
I bought the Singing In The City EP and this was the original. An Emglish song in an English city.
I used to go to Gregson's well from 1970 through to 1979, when the moved to the Triton in Town, not the same atmosphere.
I will the pub “ The Gregsons Well” I felt a tear as shut. Like the end of an era. It hung on gamely , but in the end all things must pass.
