- ALPHA CENTAURY TREASURE!!
Welcome to one of the true pearls in music...
The best version of this beautiful ballad written by Sandy Mason Theoret. Willie Nelson comes close, but this is IT !!
From the 1978 vinyl-album on Elektra Records... Well.. just E N J O Y !!!
THE ALBUM IS A CLASSIC, Start to Finish... so proud to have it in my collection, near mint, too :)) !
This Jack Clement album features the original version of his song 'Gone Girl' , which was picked up by the Dutch singer Jack Jersey too, who made it one of his biggest hits.
With the album being fresh for Clement he patched 'Gone Girl' on to his longtime friend Johnny Cash, too. It became the titlesong for one of the two 1978 Cash-album.
Jack Clement produced the Johnny Cash album 'Gone Girl' too. So it was no coincidence that the Allen Reynolds song 'It'll be her' appeared on both the albums.
Jack Clement was always more a producer than a recording artist. He started producing in the early days of Sun Records in Memphis and was sitting behind the recordingboard for many many sessions in those days.
Jack Clement has also written lots of songs: some of Cash's his earliest hits like 'Ballad of a teenage Queen', 'Down the Street to 301' and 'Guess things happen that way' . He also wrote 'It'll be me' for Jerry lee Lewis and 'Let's all help the cowboys sing the blues' for Waylon Jennings, amongst others).
In 1982 he pitched another song from this 1978-album to Johnny Cash (when he produced yet another Johnny Cash-album) namely 'We must believe in magic' for release on the 1982 'The Adventures of Johnny Cash'.

I first heard this in 1978 on WSM at 2 am on the way to Nashville' Baptist hospital for the birthing of my son. My copy was destroyed in a fire in 1986. I agree this is the best version ever.
It is impossible to listen to this without crying.Thank you!
God bless you Jack. We will always remember you and your classic song that others have sung. But to me, it's YOUR song. John. Sydney, Australia..
Some songs you just never tire of . This is most certainly is one of them .
Just a wonderful tender song by a great reader of songs- Jack Clement
So beautiful! Thank you Jack😘😘😘
One of the most beautiful songs ever, I always though He wrote it.
So sensational expression of this never, never end for me , I wish I could do sing it to my beloved one .
I heard this nearly thirty years ago... this morning it popped up in my mind...and here I am... enjoying this wonderful song.
My father's favorite song. (And one of mine as well). He used to play the vinyl single of this Jack Clement record all the time, over and over - in the late 1970's, and all through the 1980's, and he'd sing along to it at the top of his voice and make it fun and funny so we'd laugh and join in. Later on in his life (late 1990's) I recorded the vinyl record song into my computer and converted it to MP3 - complete with the vinyl snap and crackle and pop - so he could listen to it. But by then he had dementure and could not remember the song at all - could not remember that he had even heard it before, let alone that it was his favorite. But I remember for you Dad. RIP. I still love this truly beautiful song. Tears streaming down my face every time I hear it .... they are now as I write this.
Thanks for sharing such a personal story.. All the best from NL. One of my alltime favorite songs too..
No tengo palabras, por tu historia bella muy interna...si muchas lágrimas, tan emotivo sus recuerdos que los imagino. Gracias por compartir parte de su vida.
That brought back so many sweet memories of my dad.He loved to play his guitar and piano and sing.I only wish I had some recordings of it now.I know he's in heaven with my sweet mom and I'll get to hear him soon. Thanks for sharing.
Without a doubt one of the best songs produced ever, all artists who sang this great song were great themselves, love them all including Willie Nelson.

Best version by far, so simply sung and orchestration very haunting. Love the words, full of meaning. Jack Clement is a polished performer, singing is undersated. Love it.
This song has the actual atmosphere of a cafe. It's just the song to listen to while you're drinking a cup of coffee. All you really need is an acoustic guitar, an electric piano and a standup bass- you've really got it made!
RIP..Jack Clement..Your beautiful song "When I dream" will live on forever..Odette - Sydney - Australia.
One of the most talented and beloved persons in the music business. He will be greatly missed. I knew him quite well, and he was great fun to be around. This is my favourite version of this classic song. He greatly deserved the honor of being one of the latest to be elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame RIP Jack

Best version. Carol Kidd does another superb rendition.

On a lark I remembered Jack Clement . I had this record too and remembered all the great tunes on it. This was one of best . Thanks . I love Jack Clement.
I had the memorable pleasure of watching Jack Element perform this exquisite song, in Sydney, Australia, in 1980. He was touring with Johnny Cash and June Carter-Cash. I have loved it since. It reminds me of my departed partner, Marcel Pierre Cleymans, who departed this universe of 9th May 2009. He was the love of my life. Linda Cleymans Australia

have always luvd this song sung by JC...beautiful...Thank u:-)
The best version of this song. I have loved it for almost 4 decades.
me too .. there is a film of Jack actually recording it, late night in the studio .. I wonder where that piece of vision is now .. I've been looking for it for years. Apparently, the studio had been in session most of the day/night, and when everyone had packed up Jack just walked in, sat at the mike, the engineer kept it going and Jack played & sang this song .. I think it was the first time anyone heard it .. and it was recorded. I don't know if that is this soundtrack .. but I would give my eye teeth to own that piece of film .. .. very moving .. I've never forgotten the words in all those nearly 40 years ... x x x
It is on youtube. I have seen it...just gorgeous.
Love it.
😂 Beautiful song
Emanuel Serralde.
Maybe the best album ever cut.
A beautiful song,so long ago,thanks Jack.

RIP Sir..... we'll see ya again on the other side....
Great song. please release on CD pleaseeeeee.

Jack Clement was not widely known as a singer. He produced a bunch of hits on early Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis, later on the first black country superstar, Charley Pride. Also a very successful songwriter. And sound engineer. He even produced a cult-favorite movie, "Dear Dead Delilah." And we in the Nashville music business always cherished him as a great character. But he was never thought of as a singer. And then he cut this great album, and specifically this wonderful Sandy Mason song. And all of us who knew him were blown away. It was written as a female song, Crystal Gayle had a very big hit with it. Then Jack, "Cowboy" as we all called him, made this song his own . He changed the female line "I can put my makeup on and drive the men insane" to "I can put my makeup on and drive the crowd insane" and suddenly he becomes a Shakespearean actor..or maybe a clown, possibly an evil clown. What an awesome, timeless recording by Cowboy, not a kid anymore, in his late 40s, giving the world one of the great vocal performances of all time.
Thanks for this comment. And thanks for the like on my old channel. There's a new channel on my own name, too. Yes, this is certainly one of the real true treasures in music.. To me Anyway.. All the best from NL, Rob
Love this makes me cry
Beautiful song
Easily the best version by far of this beautiful song. While there are some nice recordings of the song by other artists no one gets even close to him singing it.
Beautiful!
Love this song.Just heard a version by Colleen Hewett.
