I knew Jack. I was part of the 'Clement family' -- a group of Nashville writers, singers, and producers like John Prine and Don Everly among others. We often had great dinner parties / hootenannys either in the studio (above his house) or our in his back yard. I was a writer and helped his daughter Alison produce her demos. You never knew who would come by the house / studio to see Jack. He was always laid back and unassuming. But if he knew you, you'd never have to knock on the door. Just come on in. We all had magical musical times with Jack. There was always music.
Otis Gibbs sent me. I regret not knowing of this man and his music during his lifetime, but am grateful for the music he continues to live on through.❤
That was aired 7 days after his Buddy's John R CASH death. Such a sad time for all his friends. Jack wore the same shirt at the Johnny Cash memorial tribute . So weird. /CD
Cowboy Jack Clement is a legendary man. Songwriter and an overall heavy prescence. The youngsters would call him an " influencer". We don't have any people of his status currently in 2021!
Wow, I remember that one "It´s so sweet and easy to love you" a real nice one. @10:50 Lol, I got that Country album by Louis Armstrong, fine album. @13:48
Jack ....had a 45 as a kid I received from my mother (born 1945) I unfortunately used it as a frisbee trying to hit my older brother Kevin whom stirred my tempers anger. Thanks for your service USMC FOREVER.
Have to say, he kind of cuts the Jerry Lee debut a bit short. I forget the details of exactly who and when, but I think it was that Jerry came in, maybe when Sam wasn't there, or maybe he was. And he played a bit, and was told, "we'll let you know", kind of thing. Went away and didn't hear much, and so continued his gig as drummer for a guy called Blind Paul, who was kind of broken down and defeated, working those rough Southern clubs, you know, maybe with the chicken wire and everything. And this defeated attitude rubbed off onto the Killer and he was just sitting back hoping something might happen. And funnily enough it did, and once again I THINK this is what happened. Too lazy to look it up. I THINK his cousin, second cousin, uncle, whatever he was, Myra's dad, God I can't remember his name, hunted Jerry down in a club and said "come on up to Memphis and get in Sam Phillips' face and get something happening". Jerry was wallowing in hopelessness and said no, but his uncle dragged him up there, this was some long time since he was there before. Walked him in the studio and Sam said hey I need you, I was about to come looking for you. I think it happened roughly like that.

Cowboy Jack is an icon. Funny, sharp, kind, and what many don't know is he was a rebel before his time.

Watch him look around each time he starts a story,he's used to tell those stories in bar rooms to his friends.
Now we know where John got his style and timing. Tell me the style isn't the same.
Sorry you had to live in Beaumont, TX.
