Might be due to thinner (width wise) souls. Having been skating since the 90s I noticed the more recent wide souls often seem slower to me, not sure if it's the shape or the plastic (for example, USD carbon souls are known to be slow and it's partly the plastic I think because other fairly similar shaped ones I hear are faster?).
Found this video as I’m looking into grabbing a pair of these to skate around the city alongside my husband while he longboards. I can’t do any tricks, just wanting to joy ride. Looks like these held up well! Thank you!
Back in the 90s, the options were Rollerblade Lightning, and TRS for sooo many skaters starting out. The Roces Street, too, all were very close to this setup. Royales, backslides! All these tricks were done with these crazy high frames and no H-block. Eventually, Rollerblade Tarmac, M12s, Oxygen, K2 fatties, Bauer, etc were aggressive centric and the rest is, as they say, history. Really rad to see these clips, and also hilarious and nostalgic. “Young lad, let me tell you a story about a film called ‘Hoax’”
They're the same boot mold as Razors Cults which are the same boot mold as Rollerblade Lightning TRS and Valos (it's Rollerblade's mold from back in the 90s). These use to be the ONLY skates you could aggressive skate on. Needless to say, grinding was much harder before K2 put out the first flat (front to back heel) souls.
@@innawiest2600 just for nostalgia or …? Functionally, a Roces M12 is the same thing almost, just remove the soul plate and it’s about the same as a Lightning TRS or Tarmac, etc.
Working at a skate shop, I handle these a lot. I really like the look of the boot and have always thought a more high end version that you could mod into an aggressive blade would be sweet.
This was wildly entertaining. I was cringing when you started doing frontsides honestly, but you got it. And the skateboarder was definitely throwing awkward vibes. His little smug ass head shake said it all.
Dude! This is a madness! How did u manage to frontside those things? (Even with the squeaky wheel bite!) Haha! Looks like you had a lot of fun man, and the fact u managed to lace so many tricks on skates so basic shows the level you’re at. Frickin’ awesome. Put this in your own Blader News media section 🙌🏼🔥
I actually learned my first grind on a rec skates in the 90’s called the Rollerblade Bravoblades. They were kinda dope because they didn’t have bolts under so they slid well in souls. Then I got my first aggressive skates rollerblade boxcars, basically a Lightning with grind plates and very similar to those skates you’re riding. Fun times.
Wow ! ! Flashbacks to the old days. For Royales, we would not get on top of the ledge or rail, but rather jump on at about a 45 degree angle, to be able to slide. We all had to do that until wide h- blocks were available. Skaters today can jump jump on top of a rail or ledge and lock on forever. Props to you for going old school, the 90s were awesome ! !
Welcome to the 90’s. Definitely was and still is possible to do some cool stuff on any skates (as you showed). That 360 mak was 🔥. If you want H blocks, go grind some in on a concrete ledge. Won’t take long. :p Also, that spine looks pretty dope.
Props more going old school!!!! Made me smile man. Makes me wanna see if I can go back to the "Old Ways." Next time throw some Grind Plates (50/50) on there. Such a glorious sound and feel!
Actually what we used to do in the 90s was going find a curb first and we would notch a groove by doing a few front sides... and in the 90s we never skated on just the frame. We did use grind plates
I saw that the guy from thisissoul put cult soul plates on these and made a pretty cool aggressive boot. I didn't realise it was the same shell and I have to admit it looked pretty cool. I have to admit if I saw a pair in my size I'd be tempted 😬
I started learning aggressive on some K2 softboot recreational skates in the early 90s. I would have been way better off with some lightings or something like those impalas
You see kids ! You don't need no soul plates !! ;-D I actually add those in the 90s and learnt royales with them. After a while a "backslide groove" was created on the side of the boot. I put a piece of plastic bottle inside the boot to protect my socks.
Is it a good idea to use an aggressive boot with bigger wheels for urban? Or should i just stay wi the default urban skate boots? I’m thinking about this because of how cool aggressive boots are but also I should consider what’s best for urban skating.
Wow cool decent wheels for concrete?? I'm still riding my 90s Bauer Blades (no where near as aggressive as you I'm in my late 30s after all 🤣), and been eyeing up these but worried they would be to cheap and more a toy then proper blades. Where in NZ can you even get good blades aside for impala??
Thanks Brandon! I like how the siren went off right when you stepped up to grind 😂😂 did the skater ring the skate police? I hit Kelvin up to do a grind review in his impala's vid earlier then stumbled across this vid lol they look good don't they? tell me what damage to the skate your session did to them?
That exactly what happened 😅. Cheers for watching. The bolts holding the wheels on worn down A LOT in this one session. I reckon they'd break after 2 or 3 sessions grinding at the park.
Lol these are my first pair of skates and I bought them 8 months ago, when I knew nothing about inline skate and I just thought "oh these are pretty" 🙈 now I'm learning to do aggressive skating on these while I'm saving for two new pair of skates (one for freestyle and another one for aggressive)... Obv these are not specific for aggressive but if you put two little wheels on the middle they are not even that bad honestly 🤷🏼♀️
Thats really cool to hear. They were a lot better then I was expecting for aggressive. I hope you can get those new skates sooner than expected. Have fun skating 🔥🔥🔥
Do the Impala wheels stick out further in front than a traditional aggressive skate would? Perhaps it’s just me but I’ve always thought the impalas front wheels are way too long, and it makes it tough for me to get up on my first wheel. Unless mine are also just way too big for my foot? I think impalas run big and I measure carefully- but they don’t align with the size chart.
Cheers for watching! They are not good for aggressive. Aggressive skating is much harder in them and you will break them very quickly. I highly recommend getting some aggressive skates if you want to do grinds.
I'm looking to buy a pair. But I need to know first. I'm size UK7 and wear UK8 in aggressive skates. What is the fit like with Impala? Because I've got my eyes set on a pair that is UK7 and wondering if it would be worth getting them in my shoe size or keep to wearing 1 size up. Would really help.😃✌🏻
Is the skate true to size? I honestly only wear converse and don’t know whether it would be the same size. I usually wear a size 9mens/10womens or unisex/11 women depending on how the shoe fits.
I feel like he was wanting to see how waxed it was because rollerblades take a lot of wax and then he probably felt like it was a lot of wax for him so he just didn’t skate it it happens
That is sick. How in the world? What’s with the skateboard guy and his look like “why so much wax” Sick soul groove on your aeons too. You must have boot down on lock.
This was so much fun! These slide surprisingly well ⏩

as a new skater I appreciated watching you learn a trick and warm up!

Yeah man I was going to say the same thing. I had boxcars and somehow learned to backslide in them.
I always thought Impala Skates were fitness/recreational kinda unstable skates, but they resisted well, I'm impressed
What brand skates would u recommend

My understanding is the boot is a reskinned Razors Cult, so in a way, Impala could make that happen

So goood ! I have the baby blue ones but I’ve been scared to try them at the skatepark .
After watching this video I am officially inspired to try 🥰
Seeing the aggressive skating on the impalas, with no sole plates, grinding on the rivets and wheel axles, took me right back to 1994.
Love seeing your genuine happiness and just plain old joy from your new skates.
That 360 makio was mad! Crazy how comfortable that look for you, nice video 😊
360 makio with no soulplate! XD
Awesome video dude! Really fun watching you skate impalas aggressive.
That Hoodie bro....... D O P E

Just bought my impalas and these videos inspired me to really go for it
(Edit. Foot soldiers unite.)
Appreciate you! Go out and kill it on those skates!
Papa Bless
Dude your hoodie matches with your skates. That’s what I called a fashionable rollerblader!
That sound of your skates when leaving the ledge. Lovely!!! 👍
Need some CDS Detroit soul plates on those. Maybe some Roadhouse antis.
They worked so much better than I thought they would, those frontsides!!!!
Like the new hair cut :)
I'm always surprised how much these skates look like 90s Roces skates. And they probably skate very similar.

Your conclusions were really unexpected, but I'm glad you liked it as much as you did :D
that 360 makio was ridiculous ! looks fun as man
Appreciate the video bro! Clean skating! Props bro!!!

Such a great episode buddy! 🙌 you were slaying in those Impalas too🔥
when I learned on the trs, we only tried locking the front of the foot on souls
yo sick colorways, that alone should convince impala to make them ufs
Brings back memories of snapping frames on my old Roces MOW back in the day.

as in the razor cult plates damn i had a pair of old skool esco zoo razors back in the day

if we could do it back then, then soo can u mate. nice vid, cause brings back alot of good flashbacks hehe

Think the skateboarder was confused by the squeek from the wheelbite so was checking the ledge for oil maybe?
all the age old board vs blade waxing war.
I feel like he was wanting to see how waxed it was because rollerblades take a lot of wax and then he probably felt like it was a lot of wax for him so he just didn’t skate it it happens

You can, but they aren't made for grinding. You will break them in a few sessions.
