Beverly brought back some great memories from when I was growing up in the 50’s. I remember her as a great little actress and she really stayed busy during that time. Thanks again Rob.
A great movie Old Yeller. One of my favorite parts is Chuck Conners bargaining with Arliss. Always makes me laugh with the camera angle Chuck looks 10 feet tall. Course when I was a kid everyone looked taller to me too. Love these interviews Rob.
That's how Connor's got the part of the dad in the Rifleman. He had such a great relationship with the kid that they thought he would be great in the TV show.
I remember watching Beverly Washburn on TV but I had forgotten that she was in Old Yeller. I always liked her. I was a fan of the old monster movies like The Wolfman, Dracula, Frankenstein, etc. The work all the actors put in to make those movies happen was amazing. Lon Chaney Jr. was one of the actors I looked fit in movies as a kid. He made a lot so westerns. One role I remember well was in High Noon. He played a former lawman who was the mentor of Gary Cooper’s character. Lon Chaney Jr had to portray a man who had to back away from a fight he would have been glad to help in because he saw himself as a liability not a help. The tears in his eyes and the emotion in his voice made the situation more powerful than it might have been with another actor playing the part. He was definitely an under appreciated actor. Great show Rob. Thanks for bringing memories of Beverly Washburn and Lon Chaney Jr back to me.
Old Yeller has always been a family favorite at our house. My 4 kids all loved it growing up and now their children (8 & counting) still watch it and ask for it over and over again when they visit. Thanks for what you do Rob, it surely means a lot to many people.
Thanks for these Behind the Scenes, interviews, Rob. 👍👍& 10⭐ + 💯😀 As a kid, I was so sad when Old Yeller had to be put down. But it showed me a resolve, that sometimes you have to do things, that will break your heart. Great lasting memories of Dorothy McGuire, Beverly, Tommy, and another of my Role Models, Fess Parker.
Old Yeller reminded me of when I had to put my dog down it hurt so much I lost my best friend in the whole world after 40 years I still miss him very much
A particularly interesting segment and lovely to see the friendship with Tommy Kirk grew. With regard to Kevin Corcoran...I had three much older brothers who had obviously vastly different tastes to me however Kevin’s sparkle and screen presence somehow touched them and I was able to watch anything with him in it without a battle!!
This was an absolutely wonderful interview - one of the best I’ve seen on WOW. I did not know a lot about Ms. Washburn previously but I was very impressed with her recollections and her sincerity. I was particularly taken with how the clip ended (which I won’t spoil here) - truly heart-warming. Thanks Rob, keep up the great work !
I always enjoy the humility and sincereity of these older character actors and minor actors and actresses. Always so kind and humble. A big difference from today's crop of celebrities.
What a delightful back story. Old Yeller was so dear to me because we had an old mongrel dog that would be a twin of Yeller. Ironically just like Yeller, our beloved dog Rusty returned to us after being missing for about two weeks. He was all tore up from probably an encounter with a wild feline and we had to quarantine him for rabies. He didn't last thru quarantine but his head had to be sent to New Orleans for testing. As it turned out he was negative for rabies but the parallels to the movie was eerily similar so it was not just a good family movie but we could really relate.
Rob Word, great interview! Thank you for re-reminding me, how lucky I am to have grown up being entertained by all these wonderful artists! And, how fortunate we are, that you dedicate so much time and effort in bringing these episodes to us!💫
What an interview Rob! What a touching, sweet lady, and her stories, so interesting Beverly is very much like the characters she played....okay, maybe not like in Spider Baby. 😉
I am so touched by all of this very interesting information would never have known any of this. Rob I do so enjoy & appreciate your style of doing this with all of the different guests, also your little Red boot on your jacket, thanks again!!
Thanks, Carolyn. That red boot is a lapel pin from one of the 25 annual Golden Boot Awards events we put on to honor western stars and raise money for the Motion Picture Hospital and Home. We chose a different color each year with a matching coffee mug.
I have loved Beverly Washburn in films & TV for years. One of my favorite scenes was in " Here Comes The Groom" with Bing Crosby tucking her into bed singing " Bonne Nuit!" It always brings tears to my eyes because she was so sweet...a very charming little girl! Thanks for this wonderful interview!!
Glad you enjoyed it, Steve. Beverly's interview continues in part 2 where she discusses her work in THE LONE RANGER feature and appearing with Lou Costello in his final role on WAGON TRAIN. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/Zp0dkrj-oj4/видео.html
This is nice. What a sweet lady. She has the same EXACT voice she had when she was a teenager. I recognized it immediately. I just recently saw Miss Washburn on an episode of "Gidget." She played Gidget's friend, Shirley Marshall. Paul Lynde was along for the ride too. A fun episode.
Wonderful video and interview. Ms Washburn is so humble, gracious, and grateful. Thank you for bringing and preserving these precious memories for and future generations.
I remember seeing her in all the old classic TV series of the 50's - 60's. She was always sort of a Pollyanna character, I thought. She must have learned her lines well, because she was in so many shows. Enjoyable interview - thanks for the memories once again!
I loved that movie. I remember crying when Old Yeller died. When I taught 2nd grade, I read the book Old Yeller to my class . I had to explain things and we talked about when Travis shot Old Yeller and why. I was able to show them the movie after much explaining so the children wouldn’t be so upset 😭. They enjoyed it as much as I did.
She was talking about the low budget of Spider Baby, if I remember correctly I read a long time ago that it was just a little over 60K. For the mid 60’s that was pretty much chicken feed. Great show👍👍👍
Rob- You're an excellent interviewer. You let your guests tell their stories, and you're always quick with little bits of trivia, which shows you've done your research beforehand. Or maybe you just know all those things already! Either way, thank you for WOW, it's nice to hear these stories each week.
Another great interview, Rob. You are right, Beverly appeared in so many classic movies because she could deliver. It is a shame that Tommy Kirk had so many personal demons because I always thought he had the potential to be a great adult actor given the right roles. Lon Chaney, Jr could play just about any role, very competent performer.
I agree with you about Tommy. He was probably the most talented of all the child actors who worked at Disney. I believe he was blackballed as a result of his lifestyle.
@@gerrydooley951 Actually, he wasn't blackballed. At least not by Disney. A woman whose son was fiddled with by Tommy threatened to sue Tommy. She also contacted Disney about the incident. Disney actually made a few more movies with Tommy after that. Tommy's drug and alcohol use were the reasons he stopped getting work because he became unreliable. He admitted this in later interviews.
I have long suspected that Tommy had endured abuse as a child. So many male child actors such has Jon Provost did. The trauma has to be great. Tommy had wonderful screen presence and I looked forward to watching every film he appeared in when I was growing up.
Awww nice interview. Mrs. Washburn looks fantastic n so soft spoken. I didn’t recognize the name until I saw her picture in Old Yellower. Happy to h at Tommy Kirk is still with us. Enjoyable ♥️😊👍🤟🏻
Rob, thank you so much for this. I'm a bit younger than Beverly, born in 1958, I grew up with Old Yeller and all the shows that she's mentioned. Have to admit I've been wanting to watch Spider Baby and it's here now on YT. Guess you know what I'll be doing later on. Have you seen Beverly on the original Star Trek? She was one of the crew. If I remember she was in the episode where everyone of the landing party were exposed to an aging virus except Chekov. She was really great in that. She's been great in everything she's been in. I wonder if she knows that Jeff was in my favorite version of Li'l Abner? Take care and thanks.
Wow, Beverly Washburn, I remember her well. Excellent interview, as usual. Thanks for this. I have a song Beverly Washburn recorded titled: "Everybody Loves Saturday Night"..... It's a great teen song.

Johnny was at our AWOW taping on Tuesday with his brother, Robert, and wife, Charlotte. They are taking very good care of him. He had a good time, but his Alzheimers is very noticeable and he still needs constant help. Thanks for asking.
Not a bad word about anyone. Always reflecting how “blessed” she was. Very refreshing.
Simply wonderful. What a joy this woman is...I could listen to her stories all day.
Beverly brought back some great memories from when I was growing up in the 50’s. I remember her as a great little actress and she really stayed busy during that time. Thanks again Rob.

Great interview with a very lovely lady! Thank you, Rob.
and I love seeing these programs. Thank you so much (and thank you, Beverly!) Lovely interview.
I love these interviews because I still watch these movies. It’s wonderful to see the Actors and how well they’re doing now. Thank you❤️❤️
What a good interview, i really enjoyed it. Beverly really seems like a wonderful person and has some great stories. Wish it had lasted longer.

Terrific interview Mr Word. I remember Ms Washburn from '50's tv. She was always crying it seemed like; the 'poor me!' roles. Glad she's doing well.
Old Yeller was one of the first movies I saw in the theater with my parents.
I hated the ending, as a child I didn't know what rabies was
This is nice.
Yakima Canutt was the Second Unit Director on Old Yeller.
Guess I missed this one the first time. It was another amazing interview with such a charming guest.
What a classy gal! God Bless you Beverly. Great interview.
Remember her well. Always loved her.

Wow what a block buster interview Rob. Wow.. Loved the movie and all the actors in it. Classic for sure. !
I can't thank you enough for doing these, old yeller was the first movie I ever saw at a theater and i snuck in thank you
Great interview as always. What a sweet lady. I’ve seen all the movies except never heard of spider babies I’ll have to watch it now. Ha!!
… such a pretty actress, and she looks younger than she did in Star Trek ! :)
The emotional pain resulting from watching Old Yeller may remain with you for the rest of your life. I wish I had never seen it.
Wait till you have your own dogs that die/have to be put down. It scars you forever. 😢😯😕
@@Pahoe77 My cat died Xmas morning, 1997. I cried so hard that I had my first stroke that day. They found me three days later.
It was well done, but now I don’t watch any movie where I know the animal dies (and I am 63). 😂
Another wonderful interview. Please invite Beverly back. She was delightful. Thank you.
Many thanks Rob for this marvelous interview with a truly wonderful person. Love her stories and seeing her again here has made my day.
always a joy, thanks

I just love to watch your videos. They give me faith that the country is going to be alright.
Rob, I loved your interview with Beverly Washburn. I met her at the Williamsburg Nostalgia Festival and loved spending time with her !
Thanks, Linda. She certainly is talented. And a real sweetheart.
She is still and always will be beautiful and intelligent!
Lucky lady
Lucky us
Thanks Rob!
She was talking about the low budget of Spider Baby, if I remember correctly I read a long time ago that it was just a little over 60K. For the mid 60’s that was pretty much chicken feed. Great show👍👍👍
Love the longer format! Thanks!
Wow , still gorgeous ! Such a warm humble lady ! Was that the timeless beauty Marion Ross seated beside Dawn Moore ? 😍 Thanks Rob ❤️
Yes, Marion was one of our Front Row Beauties.

Thanks, Kurt. Got a new one for tomorrow that I'm hustling to finish!
Great interview Rob, Beverly was so interesting and what a nice lady. I'm so glad I grew up through that era and know all these shows.
Thanks, Elaine. Me, too!
What a nice woman. I saw Old Yeller once; great movie but I can't watch it again.

Yes, that's a good early episode of Star Trek. I've loved her work for years and it was nice of her to travel from Las Vegas to be part of our show.
Wow, Beverly Washburn, I remember her well. Excellent interview, as usual. Thanks for this. I have a song Beverly Washburn recorded titled: "Everybody Loves Saturday Night"..... It's a great teen song.
Beverly will be appearing with me in the Fall at the Williamsburg, VA, Nostalgia Festival, Nov 5-7, 2020.

A beautiful interview with the gorgeous red head actress from Old ‘Yellow’! Hilarious. Thank you, once again.
Good interview.
Great interview. Thanks so much.

What a fantastic video this is.wonderful lady telling wonderful stories..
Glad you enjoyed it, roy
Charming lady. I love 'Old Yeller.' Lon Chaney Jr. was great as Lennie in 'Of Mice and Men.'
She was the crying girl in my mind. Loved her, Haley Mills, and Angela Cartwright'
Yes I,m a Boomer
Best show in awhile
I enjoyed watching Old Yeller at the New Theater in Marked Tree Arkansas early 60's
Lon Chaney Jr. was not appreciated but as an actor he was as good as it gets. May God Bless Him Always!!! Amen
In keeping with the spirit of Jack Hill, SPIDER BABY is a film best appreciated after smoking a lot of weed.
R.I.P. - Sid Haig.
Upvote #422. Wow, another great interview that brought back so many memories of when I was a kid growing up in the 50s. Thanks.
Wonderful interview !
The best channel on RUclips!
Thanks, 12ernie. Your comment gives me energy to finish tomorrow's episode! Hope you're sharing our shows with other lovers of movie and TV classics.
Awesome series! Love these Rob!
Great interview
I love the film old yeller I’m 42 years old and it still makes me cry every time I see it when old yeller has to be shot from the rabies.
I saw Marion Ross in the audience.
Good eyes, Steve!
I had a thing for Beverly,Haley,and Angela(Washburn,Mills,Cartwright.)back in the day.LOL.
Chuck Connors had a great part in Old Yeller and his character was the owner of the dog
Wonderful lady.
Terrific
What a sweet woman.
...and you are such a fine host, Rob. Love the tie! You must have a great wardrobe... and collection of keepsakes and autographs.
Thanks, Kut. I've got a few goodies.
Awwww Rob loved the video!!!!💕
Old yeller great kids movie shame kids dont got that stuff these days
Spike was also in The Westerner with Brian Keith.
She didn't even cry when ole yeller died.

Lon Chaney Jr. was a great actor. He was great in the little appreciated horror movies. However, one should watch his performances in "Of Mice and Men" with Burgess Meredith and in "High Noon" with Gary Cooper.
I'm here because of Covid19 otherwise would have missed this. Strange times.
Might be one of your funniest of your interviews without trying Rob !
Beverly has such a genuine quality about her !
Which is obviously why she was chosen for the roles that she was cast in !
I have to apologize Rob,
but Beverly very briefly mentioned Johnny Crawford,
I haven't heard anything lately about his condition.
Can you please tell me if you know any current information on how he is doing ?
I know maybe I shouldn't go off from Beverly's interview, I apologize for that.
Thank you again Rob,
your guests always bring such great insight of the behind the scenes
"golden nuggets" of information that we would have no way to know otherwise !
Johnny was at our AWOW taping on Tuesday with his brother, Robert, and wife, Charlotte. They are taking very good care of him. He had a good time, but his Alzheimers is very noticeable and he still needs constant help. Thanks for asking.
