      Hi mate. Good move. Pattaya/Jomtien are a little bit too full on for me. I much prefer it here in Hua Hin and there are many great beach towns within an hour or so drive south of here which is well worth the drive if you want to get out of town for a few days.

      Hi Keith.I lived in Khao Takiab for a few years and yes it's a lovely beach, though more crowded than Sai Rai beach especially in the high season. That's the great thing about living in Hua Hin There are so many nice beaches within a short driving distance from the town.

    Lovely place and a great video. Think it's the first of yours that I've come across and due credit to you for keeping on working and supplementing your income while retired. I see a lot of people doing that and it gave me pause to think: I don't live in Thailand but I've been going there for over 30 years and always reckoned I might retire there one day. The reality however is that Thailand is not as attractive a destination as it once was, mainly due to rising costs. It is not cheap, and has become exceedingly commercial, being economically far too dependent on real-estate and tourism. Your dentist story is a typical case in point, it's a constant battle. I acknowledge that for long-termers already bedded-in it's a little hard to pick up sticks but if you're considering it with fresh eyes today then neighbours like Vietnam and Cambodia offer far more value not to mention charm and authenticity. Or even Malaysia frankly which is more developed yet less mercenary.
    By the way, what was the music you used in the first segment? Quite catchy!

      Hi Rasheed. Thanks for your kind words and input. Sadly, RUclips doesn’t supplement my income in retirement as I have not made one baht since starting the channel three years ago as I don’t have enough subscribers or views to be monetised. In fact, it costs me a lot of money for equipment and travel expenses when making the videos. What it does do is it gives me a hobby to occupy my time in retirement and I also like that I am able to help people who may be thinking of coming to Thailand to live, retire or to holiday. Thailand for me is a very cheap place to live compared to the western countries that I have lived in. I live a very good life here on my Australian/UK pension, if I were back living in Australia my pension would just be enough for the basics…rent, utilities food and nothing left to enjoy life. I was recently back in Australia visiting my family and many people are doing it tough with the cost of living rising daily but wages are stagnant. Regarding other retirement destinations, Vietnam doesn’t have a dedicated retirement visa and I lived in Cambodia previously but the country doesn’t tick most of the boxes for my needs in retirement. As for Malaysia, I considered it at one time but I much prefer Thailand. Everyone is different and what suits some people may not be the right fit for others…horses for courses I suppose.
      Cheers

    Nice video thanks Ged . Google earth is pretty good at identifying nice spots when your not on the spot. I see there are national park areas nearby presumably with wildlife. Do you know if it’s a good place to visit .

      @thailandmyland...retiringd2351  3 месяца назад

      Hi Adrian. Pranburi Forrest Park is close to Sai Noi Beach but it's not a national park. The nearest national Park is not too far away it's in Sam Roi Yot about an hour's drive south of Sai. Noi Beach along the Royal Coast Road and well worth the trip. The town of Sam Roi Yot is a lovely coastal town as well and you can stay there for the night while you are visiting the national park during the daytime. If you decide to go there you should check out Phraya Nakhon Cave temple along the way between Sam Roi Yot town and the entrance to the national Park. You can reach it by boat or by a long trek up the mountain. Just check out some of my earlier videos that I did about the area. I've attached the link for the driving directions from Sai Noi beach to Sam Roi Yot National Park should you want to take the drive.

    You could say $10 £8 for the beach day out, all in, including food & drink.

      Exactly Ged & in the $10US £8 I quoted, that could cover your fuel & food/drink for the rest of the day.
      My £8 only just gets me a coffee & sandwich at my UK cafe stop...infact it's more like £9-£10 on average.

      🤣🤣 Even in the video, there were foreigners there. It's no secret to the numerous condos and homes in the area. About 5 minutes drive from there you can go over to pranburi park and that beach is totally empty.
      I think they have park bbqs for use as well there for a day out picnic.

    I often stop there on the way down the coast. Great little place to outright on the beach and cold beers. There use to be a large restaurant but that was knocked down some time ago and is now used as a car park. if you go up the road a little further, as I often accidentally do, you'll see Thai flags and large gates. You will also find a number of men appear out of the bushes with machine guns. Best to avoid that road.
