    I love the images with water in them. Something about the rainbowy edge on the fisheye combined with the light on the water looks so cool!

    Another very good video, thank you. I recall 'back in the day', a poor man's fisheye using a door viewer lens epoxy-glued onto a plastic lens cap which was then mounted on a standard lens. Dang if I can find mine, so your video got me thinking about making another.

    I shoot a Lensbaby circular fisheye very regularly. The affects are definitely something to play around with to find subjects there seem to work extremely well. I have found interior shots or cloudy day shots bracketed to use in HDR software produce incredible photos. Some can appear to be 3D.

    The composition advice can be a bit simplified: Any straight line will appear straight in the image if and only if it (or it's continuation) goes through the center of the image.

      They certainly make some interesting lenses. They and other like them is one of the reasons I feel like missing out with a DSLR instead of a mirrorless, vintage lenses is another one. Still, I'm happy with my D610, and not that fond of digital viewfinders.

    I just ordered this lens today and can't wait to get it, it looks like a fun lens to play with! I figured for $149 it's not going to break the bank or disappoint me that much if I don't like it. I was going to get the apsc version for my new Sony A7RV and put the camera in crop mode, but at the last second decided to get the micro four thirds version and use it on my Olympus EM1-MIII.

    Nice presentation. You left out one particularly great use of a fisheye lens: nighttime photography, specifically meteor showers. I have a number of them taken on a Nikon crop sensor with an 8mm fisheye. A friend of mine told me that the 360° horizon made it look like a planet to him. When he said that, I immediately saw it as well, but it never crossed my mind until then! If there was a way to paste or upload an image, I sure would.

    I have the Rokinon 8mm 3.5 and took it to Europe to shoot the front and inside of buildings where a normal lens would not work.( it worked great photographing San Marcos Square in Venice Italy) I used the Rokinon for the blimp hangers I photographed for Lee Haze's photo competition

    The first Kodak cameras were circular but still a bit hard to get used to. I think sigma or another company had a weird wide lens 8mm ? Maybe in the 80s where you could put filters in the back I forget but it had a kitsch following

    I love FishEyes, but I'm not sure for the sense of Round Fisheyes - for non-Mirrorless they are seldom anyway.
    I used the DA10-17 for a long time on Crop-Pentax, but I was never suer why they made a Zooom out of it.... until I started to use it on the K1 in FF.
    Meanwhile my main Fisheye is the SMC-K17/4 - very nice on K1 and more often in my cameara bag than e.g. my Tamron 14/2.8

    I bought two lenses from AliX (Stop throwing stones at me!!!), one a 35mm and a Brightin Star 10mm. The wide angle lens was tested immediately but I sort of realized that ‘Nu-uh’, not my kind of tea.
    However I have screwed onto my EOS M50 now and then And I feel this lens is so extremely useful, or at least funny to use, much more that the 200mm lens I have.
    I was looking at a 7mm lens but decided that 10mm was enuff.

      I got the Olympus 8mm f.18 Pro, I found it used in excellent condition at an excellent price in a local camera store. It's not as extreme as that 4mm, but the quality is perfect. Amazing for landscapes, urban landscapes and night skies.

    I just got this lens for my Sony a5100 and came across your awesome video! Any tips for focusing? I have my focus peaking on but it’s not helping much. When I’m set to infinity everything’s still out of focus (foreground background and in between). It will focus semi ok at at just about in between the 0.2 and infinity area. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. Thank you.

    • @snappiness
      @snappiness  7 месяцев назад

      You may have to play with it and figure out where the infinity focus really is. Sometimes it's not exactly on the mark where the lens shows. It almost sounds like from your description it's focusing past infinity, which I know sounds absurd, but it just means past the infinity point of focus on the lens and everything will be out of focus.
