Hi Cap, I started turning a little over a year ago and agonized over sharpening HSS lathe tools. I recently bought a bar and carbide cutters plus I used your video to make a handle. I cannot believe the improvement in my turnings that your tool has made. Now I cannot find enough wood, I think you’ve created a monster, a very happy monster. Thanks so much for guiding me through a great new hobby.
It is very refreshing to see soneone who shoots straight and knows what he's talking about!
Terrific video. Thanks.
I was stationed down the road from Eddie in Cam Ramh Bay. We just found out about a year ago.He was Air Force, I was Army. Unknown to both of us, we were both sent to Okinawa to finish our tour of duty. Something about what he mention on his show made me call him and ask. Small world isn’t it! 1968
Hi there Cap'n Eddie from me in the land of Oz, Perth, Australia. You have inspired me to make my own carbide tools and to also introduce them to my local "Mens Shed". I love them and the boys in the shed are now involved in making their own too. Nothing flash but neither are we! I love your videos and the tips you give, thank you very much for helping us woodwork tragics. You gotta love that organised mess in the background, what a shed you have, I only wish I had the room to make a mess like that too! :-) Keep up the great work, as an ex Aussie soldier I commend you for your patronage to those serving your country. Lest we forget.
Always a pleasure to watch your videos thank you for sharing your knowledge with us (Like/Subd)
All the best

Hi cap'n Eddie, just thought you should know.....your the best😄you cheer me up.you gave me the confidence to take up wood turning.i have my lathe,I have tools, and I'm listening to your advice.
I have very poor health and suffer with chronic pain......so taking very small steps.i took a one day turning instruction and could only take in so much!!! Have looked at all your RUclips clips in my shed when not trying to turn as you got through your health issues by helping others to be safe and try when things a bad.
Keep up the good work you make a difference thank you so much your a shining star .

You are Fantastic.
I've got several of your cutters and one of your tools, I love them, and I'm 100% satisfied with all my purchases from you and management ;)
Cap'n- I used the super turners package I received and made 4 tools. Now all of my friends want to get into carbide. The package was super and let me customize each tool for my needs. Totally satisfied.
This is the video I have been looking for, it answered so many questions. I have been to your website. I will be getting some in the future from you. Have to get my Lathe up from Atlanta first. Dad is giving his work shop to me, stoke took his eyesight a while back. I have used to tools since I was a kid. He said at least he knows I will take care of them as well as he did.
Brand new to turning. Love the no bs teaching. Subbed and liked.
Thank you for this advice. you always offer great information. Blessings to you and your family
I'm rocking a radius square and a round, both with on my own handles using your 1/2" square shafts. The tools are really working well thanks Cap'n Eddie. The carbides are a pleasure to do all my roughing work. Only thing you can improve is to supply much shorter screws, as I had to cut and grind mine down.
If your cutter doesn't seat, file the bar til it does! Grind on it if need be. Make it work! Or get your $30 back and spend $120 on an Easy Wood Tools piece that is precision machined, wont rust and looks pretty (but doesn't really work any better...).
Basically, either spend 3-4x the money or make the cheap option work with a little tweaking. I've had my square bar from Cap for years, it works fine. It rusts a bit in the humidity, but a trip to the wire wheel fixes that.
thanks Eddie you're the main man
Wow, Capt! I can't believe anyone would have a problem with this stuff.
Thanks Capt, Just got the tools, ( 7/15) I'm delighted,
Very nice.
thanks Cap'n
joao
Very informative. For once, someone demonstrates what they make. Thank you Capt. Eddie!
I have all the cutters you sell and they work great. For anyone who says they don't cut. Cut a limb off a tree and practice until you learn how to use it.
It was Jed who got me into this. We are now the largest supplier of carbide for woodturning in the USA, if not the world. We did just under 40,000 cutters last year.
You inspired me to buy my first lathe capt'n. Expecting the UPS today and I'll be giving you a call today or tomorrow for some tools!
hi cap n from ireland .i love your vedeos and tips thanks so much
Ya not getting mine back Captn...there great mate!!!
cheers Mick!!!
Ha, I was wondering about using the cooking spray trick, We DON'T USE IT TO COOK WITH, WE USE IT FOR OTHER STUFF, AND WHY WE DON'T COOK WITH IT,,,,BECAUSE IT HAS SILICONE IN IT, THAT'S WHY STUFF DON'T STICK.Thanks for sharing, and good to see you're back. =)
hi capt. eddie im almost 3 years behind watching this vidio but i did and learned something. im still saving to buy some of you tools. until next vid im trying to make shavings
How about a short video on the difference sizes of the carbide cutters? There seems to be a lot sizes and I am confused I have a midi Turncrafter lathe and an old sears tube lathe.
I really enjoyed your video and toy have great communication skills which makes me very comfortable as you are one of the boys who is looking out for us DIYers and not out to rip th0se of us off who are on a very limited budget and would love to know more about the priseing of our car bit tips on your cutters.
A little instruction goes a long way. Never too old or smart to learn. Thanks for the help...
Makin little ones outa big ones,,,,,,
I really appreciated your instructions on making tools and handles your own. Too many think things should come 100% done and ready. Tools have to be sharpened and modified to work for the owner!! One of the many things not taught in shop class. 8^P Nice video, sir.
Crickey! He's had a shave.
Old style car wax , Simoniz works too for anti rust.
NOTE,I do mainly bowls
at eleven minutes.......for a square hole...maybe a mortise bit and a narrow chisel would work.
Hey Cap, quick question -- you suggest having the hole for the handle to be no less than 3 inches. Are there Forstner bits that will drill a 3" deep hole? The ones I have don't seem to have that reach.
Thank you
cap'n eddie i have your cutters they are great.
HEY CAPN, where can I buy two of your bar,s you used in this video, plus all the cutters....how much???
Hai Cap (and others ^.^),
I'm new to turning (about 3 months into it) and was wondering if sharpening carbide cutters is a thing - is it? Or are they mostly just 'disposable' cutters?
I have the same question. Can you sharpen the cutters ?
Maybe just lay the top of the cutter (upside down) on a piece of, lets say 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper with some water or other lubricant and sand the top flat. Just enough to make the cutter sharp again. ???
+jim renderer you sure can but use a diamond stone
Yes carbide bits can be sharpened unless damaged. Use diamond plates that are extra coarse, coarse, fine and extra fine. Can be sharpened up to 5 times to save money.
Do you ship to Canada.
do i hear buzzards in the background of some of your videos?
Any one that can't figure that out need's to stay away from machinery !
