I built this kit and I was honestly very disappointed in the quality of the parts....not what I am used to with Estes...the balsa for the fins are very flimsy and soft and hard to work with.....an 18" plastic parachute to me is undersized and a rubber band shock chord is not what I would go with.....and the self stick decals is not what I was expecting and not the same as you get with a regular der red max.....I believe that is a brand new NC for Estes......and cardboard centering rings are not what I was expecting.....on the green ring.....if you slip it down over the tip of the nose cone and push down on it....it will stretch it to fit over the motor tube.
@@alfredindy8058 I appreciate the tip....I got another kit and ended up making plywood fins....I should probably reiterate and say that for the COST of the kit.....it is great....but I would have happily paid more for plywood fins and centering rings waterslide or vinyl decals and nylon parachute...I ended up ordering vinyl decals from stickershock23....my previous above statement looks like I am bashing Estes....and that is the last thing I want to do.I have been an Estes customer since 1979.
@@f62darkstar I did not take it as bashing Estes. I just added that even on the Xtreme rocket kit I doped the fins and it made them stronger. The estes kits for the 60s always specified dope to seal the balsa wood. People have gotten away from that today. However, it does add some strength.
@@alfredindy8058 yes..I remember estes suggesting dope...that stuff is getting hard to find locally....I have also paper skinned balsa fins to tuffin them up...I learned the skinning of fins from here at apogee
Darn Tim ..that white coat was my idea to wear to make rocketry a real serious hobby hahahaha.
Oh btw.. wear safetyglasses or other interesting glasses with that coat..even more official :D

Use SIG or Brodak Dope on them and they will not be as flimsy.
