His videos are brilliant. I'm not a regular player, nor any good, but when I started I got from absolutely nothing to decent thanks to those videos. Hey Rollie, Great video Rollie - Rollie keep'em coming Rollie 👌😊
I would like to thank Dr. Dave for everything he's done in the billiards world, I enjoy his videos and his studies on ball collisions. His engineer aproach is very apreciated
7:57 "Don't play for position if you already have it. Take what's offered." I know he probably said it in a light way, and perhaps even jokingly, but this is solid advice that many aspiring "good" players need. Most people who learn how to play for position get into the habit of ALWAYS playing for position, often forgetting what the natural path of the cue ball may sometimes offer. Excellent advice. Edit: i accidentally a word
One of the funniest videos I've watched in a while. Love Dr. Dave, he's a champion of the sport, and a wholesome-ass dude! "Now you're getting a little weird Rollie."
Ok I'm not even 10 minutes into the video and this is already amazing pool content. Entertaining and educational... Wish I could give more than one like.

Thanks to you too, ROLLIE! You did a great job keeping it fun during the filming, and you also did a great job with the editing. I look forward to filming something with you again in the future. You got mad video productions skills, bro. Peace and love, ROLLIE!
All the "Rollie" jokes aside, there is no doubting that Dr. Dave is an absolute master teacher of pool! EVERYONE who watched this video has absolutely learned SOMETHING! It was also such a great treat to find out that he had Robert Byrne's table. Mr. Byrne was an amazing teacher as well and his table is definitely in good hands with Dr. Dave! His book "Standard Book of Pool & Billiards" is basically a bible for billiard shots!! He also has many videos on exercises and shot making. Great video. Thanks for sharing...and congratulations on your recent graduation!!! :~)
Dave Alciatore is the man, great material right here! And I dig his book The Illustrated Principles of Pool and Billiards, as well as his Billiards Digest articles on throw and squirt, particularly. It was very insightful technical material. Dave has made the articles easy to find online. Also, he uses properly-scaled, accurate diagramming of shots in all his material, which I appreciate. Precise, accurately-drawn diagrams are very important for pool instructional material, yet most of the billiards instructional books I've read fail to get them right.
Thanks for putting your time and effort to make videos like this. 51 mins isn't long at all I would watch this if its longer than endgame. Learn so much. Thank you. Anyone serious about pool should watch this.
Dr. Dave is a blessing for people who can relate and appreciate how he explains the game. Colorado has so many talents of the game. Love your videos brother!
I took quite a few years of lessons and learned a lot. However many of my lesson days were going over things I'd already had learned on my own through online material and practice. Don't underestimate the knowledge that's already at you fingertips online and from the excellent free content you can find on youtube such as this. I find really the only problem I have is information overload. I need to get better at structuring my practice sessions to include the massive amount of information I'm taking in when I'm away from the pool table in video tutorials or just from watching pro pool.
Dr Dave has been my main source of knowledge recently as I have been trying to get better at pool and this video with you two was such a treat to watch. I've already seen everything he said here from his own videos cause I think I might have watched them all but the back and forth between you two was great. I actually think I might not have stuck with playing and learning pool so much if it wasn't for his videos and his passion and enjoyment that he brings to the sport.
Love the cheesy dry humor. Love that he has Byrne’s table!!!! Wish ya’ll could see the room I built in my study. Started playing again after a 10y break. Love the game!!!!
Don't want to brag with my BU Scores but just want to tell you how much I've learnt of all the shots I've made while making the test: 46, 54, 62, 67, 73, 64, 75, 66. According to exam, strong Master to weak Doctorate. Will keep up this in my weekly routine!
Why would anyone give a thumb down? :O Dave is such an amazing inspiration, the way he puts science into pool is just out of this world. The “good draw shot” reaction when he says “look at thaaaat” says it all about him. Love this video, watched from A to Z with a lot of rewinds.
The timing of this video was perfect for me! I just finished reading Dr. Dave's Principles of Pool and Billiards this week. Lots of valuable information. Definitely going to take that billiards exam
You can tell Rollie´s channel is getting to the next level when you see the very Dr Dave is in it. I knew Dr. Dave before, and its fun to hear about the peace sign again. I remember sharing it with my pool pals. Great vid there!. Looking forward for more
I spent most of my day in the lab doing spectroscopy that involves mapping 3 dimensional images of mineral crystals. That was easy on the brain compared to 3 times the the Peace sign...which is actually the harmonic equivalent of ‘Kumbaya’. Kidding aside. These are the most well explained lessons on the web. I actually use the ‘nitty gritty stuff’ I learn. Witty banter a bonus.
I've watched a few of Dr Dave's videos and quite a few others. Ushally it's above my skill set. But this video really helped me to understand exactly what he meant/means in his and others videos. Wow just knowing these tips will drastically improve my game. Now just to remember everything.......... Thank you to the both of you.
As a mathematician, i cringe in every engineering aproximations... But i love too much this guy. The way he studied and mastered the art of pool is remarkable. So grateful for this guy
As a physicist, I can assure you that Dr Dave's "approximations" are based on allowances (defined by the physical laws of kinematics) which are driven by the variability of conditions. If you read through Dr Dave's many technical papers you too can enjoy the advanced mathematics/mechanics he uses to derive the very behaviors one sees when billiard balls collide/interact with various rotational states, etc. His solutions are exact HOWEVER in real life exact solutions ARE the approximations because "noise" is unaccounted for and when noise is accounted for, it can only ever be best approximation of noise sources. By noise in this context I mean uncontrolled variability of properties of the "system" such as cloth surfaces/types, cushion rebound, ball types/surfaces, cues, chalk, humidity, temperature not to mention this biggest one: players. Don't cringe good Sir, understand his intent and rejoice in the power of making mathematics of the complicated both practical and sharable with the general public. I assure you Dr Dave knows exactly what he's talking about. I've checked his derivations and he is spot on. His PhD was not given, it was earned and rightfully so. Hope this is helpful to all readers!
I watched a lot of Dr. Dave vids, but didn't have enough interest to learn from them. I am watching the peace sign part a second time to learn it. Thanks!
I've thought dr Dave is the best source of pool instruction for years... no hocus pocus or "well it's always worked for me" nonsense. It does not surprise me but I did not know he was an actual Dr, haha. This was a great video which I thoroughly enjoyed. Keep up the good job Rollie (!) :) 420
I'm so satisfied for this video, thank you! I've already watch every single pool tutorial video on youtube that this was like giving a free buffet for homeless!!!
Super glad that you spent some time with Dr. Dave. His videos have been very helpful to me. Are you planning to try his exams, posting your scores? I don't think it's necessary for you to post the entire video of your test. But I think that it would be very helpful for all of us rank amateurs to see how we rate against you as you head to the tournament. Then, we can see a bit better how we might fare, playing through you.
Now imagine Rollie did really great at the US Open, got extremely lucky and somehow won it! His channel would definitely explode and I would be the happiest guy! Mate I am so rooting for you, can't wait to watch you play in the U.O., whatever happens! Good luck
