      I gotta disagree sorry, they’re both excellent but the original drums did an excellent job of setting up the rest of the players

    This is different from the original, while the original was more subtle it was also boosting the other instruments to sound better. Lewis' version sounds very active, like he's basically keeping up and nailing every note with the tone of the band. They really command how the band sounds as a whole. Props to both drummers.

    If you listened to larnell and the original drummer you’d think that the original guy was the one who learned after 3 listens

    This is better than anything snarky puppy ever put out. Way more rhythm and simplicity.
    Larnell needs his own band. The best Jazz musician of this generation
    His other stuff like coconuts is already one of the best Jazz pieces OF ALL TIMES

    This whole tune is great - are there other tunes like this one? - even looking at Larnell's work and Mathieu Fiset I am not finding this sort of tune... no idea what you even call this category of music - funk jazz??

      This was part of a video where he learns a song by hearing it only once. The composer of this piece sent them a version of the song without the drums in it for Lewis to play over.

    At 2x playspeed the video just turns into a drum solo, at least that's what it's sounds like to me, a viewer whose only reference to drumming is Whiplash😂.

      Have a listen to Chick Corea (who recently passed away, sadly), especially one of his famous tunes called Spain. You won't help but notice the influence it had on this piece (if you didn't catch it from the name!)
