Thanks for the video. I'm gonna try some of these exercises and some of your gluteus medius exercises to help treat my PFPS. I already started to strengthen my vastus medialis which seems to help quite a bit already. Anyway like your clear and informative videos. Have nice day!
Leg press rather works the quads. Lunges are great and you can increase the load on the glute max by leaning forward. Basically the same movement as the step-ups we've shown!
I have job that I sit at all day, I am a senior and now have butt pain in right side that extends into right leg down to foot. What exercise can I do at my desk to alleviate pain?
Impossible to answer without knowing you. Would definitely recommend you to change posture more often and get up from sitting every half hour to hour. Seeing a local physio or getting in touch with our partner yourphysio.online can give you tailor-made advice
@@Physiotutors Yes I saw your video earlier about scapula strengthening as I injured it while diving in pool repeatedly.. I'm preparing for long distance runs and sometimes feel like my right feet drops towards the left one while running, is that related to gluteus muscles weakness ? Thanks
Kai, Glute Max exercise had my hip and femur poping... no hurt mind you. Is this normal as my left hip, glutes, and quads went from elete athlete traing to walking, some medball and sedentary work for past 13 years. I am 65 years old and otherwise in great shape. I welcome your thoughts. Thank you!
@@Physiotutors Thank you for you reply. Any thoughts on required rest period between these exercises? I ask because my afflicted area needs at least 48 hours to recover. I am also wondering how long it normally takes so that I can have normal weight bearing again.
Great video , i`have question , when doing all this exercise my glutes want fire properly , hamstrings and back muscles but never glutes , I realize there are inhibited by something! Any sugestion or advice please , thx in advance!
How do you measure "not firing"? The literature does not support the theory that muscles dont' fire. What we can imagine is that you might be compensating with other muscles as your glutes are weak. Focus on good form - the are active, even if it doesn't feel that way.
What the person said above me is true! It could also mean your glutes are sleep and you need to do glute activation exercises first before you get into actual glute exercises.
I have a question. I have been trying all of this exercises but I never actually feel it till 15 reps of glute bridges and 15 reps of hip thrust. Idk how to push from the hills, I don't know what that means at all. Also, this has nothing to do with the video but why do I shake when doing kickbacks, fire hydrant, glute bridges and hip thrust. I try to embrace my core but it just makes it worse. I'm only focusing on activation because my glutes are very weak for some weighs at the moment.
Is standing in a doorway, keeping your back erect, using your semi-outstretched arms to keep your balance, whilst bending your knees with your feet slightly apart and pointing forward, of any use?
some of these exercises are same as ones for gluteus medius. Need cautionary note for deep knee bends that knee should not go forward of ball of toe. If knee goes too far forward puts undue pressure on knee. What should patients concentrate on first? Glut meduius first or glut maximus??
Man I did the step down at PT and my knee was annhilated immediately. Then we tried the rear lunge and again my knee cried out in horrible agony. I suppose this is all due to my glute for that old injured knee. Should I include PT specific exervcises into a workout routine or just stick with my PT exercises until....forever?
It might be that your knee is not ready yet or too sensitive for a rear lunge. Try other exercises which load the knee in a different way or less. A good way to start is to work on the glute medius and progressively load the knee as tolerated.

Ok but some of this seem even really hard for healthy people (or me) :o Amazing exercises indeed!

Great for a person with great knees. I would have to work up to most of these exercises.
all this exercises require strong knees. are there gluteus exercises for those with wekaer knees?

I'll check them out for sure. Thanks for the hint!
How do you guys feel about patients using a leg press machine and/or lunges for global strengthening including the glute max?
Leg press rather works the quads. Lunges are great and you can increase the load on the glute max by leaning forward.
Basically the same movement as the step-ups we've shown!
Wrong go all the way up and all the way up to target the glutes, quads, hams, and even calfs. But no one does that
@@Physiotutors wrong leg press does work the glutes, especially with a high foot placement
@@entitiessoul yeah and they put their feet really low, ouch the pressure on the foot joint 😬

Not every exercise is for everyon. Popping is okay, but if pain occurs, try to modify (decrease weight, change position etc)

Is It an indication that my glutes are weak because In all of these exersices my quads are firing too much compared to my glutes?
it just means you are using your quads to do the exercise, and not your glutes. you have to push through your heels, not the front part of your foot
What the person said above me is true! It could also mean your glutes are sleep and you need to do glute activation exercises first before you get into actual glute exercises.
It could actually be a sign of strong glutes since you feel more pain in you quads

Can we use prone straight leg raises for strengthening the gluteus maximus?
There are many options. In prone you might have a lot of er.spinae activity as well

The assumption that knees can’t go over the toes has been long refuted.
