In my view the F-84W is the real collectible here. I am not so sure but I swear to have worn a F-84W at some point in my life as I recall the details of the dial: everything screams 80s in that watch face, the flatter CASIO logo, the red lines, the Lithium writing, the dotted alarm sign and WATER RESIST written in superwide font, not the WR emblem of the modern watches. A real welcome back to the 80s.
One thing about SKMEI watches that you might be able to put it in review in the future, is the readability from sharp angles. I had a few SKMEI watches, and if compared to the original Casio that it copied, the visibility is very bad when viewed from the bottom cos it produces very bad ghostings. Many of us watch users don't view our watches straight at the face but at a slight slanting angle from the bottom. Casio F91w produces very good angle viewing while the SKMEi is totally bad.
If you just want a functional watch at the best price the Skmei is the one to go for. I've had mine over 12 months no issues same battery , 50m WR better back-light and it keeps accurate time. Finish is same as the Casios... £6.00
@@UFA-jc8gu One thing i compared certain model with the original Casio that it copied, is that the SKMEI keeps slightly less accurate time. I mean it is still a quartz watch, but comparing the same model with Casio and the accuracy of the internet time, the SKMEI is off by a few minutes in a few months. So yeah, i guess this is the price of what one is paying for.
@@fabianchan7 well i am g shock collectors that just knew this skmei because some pointing the acuracy of one particular model which is skmei 1426 and after watching many reviews i bought it 2 months ago and i am very surprised with the accuracy and i am here because i want to but this one to compare to my f 91...i see the light is far better
I agree, the backlight on the 1412 is much better than either Casios, which was the main reason I picked one up in the first place. It's my beater watch, even more so than the F91W, and functionally between the two, the Casio is much more accurate, losing maybe a little over 1 second a month, vs about 6 seconds a month for the 1412, which is still pretty accurate when compared to any of my mechanical watches. I also have to agree with Fabian Chan's earlier comment about readability as well; when viewed from the bottom at an angle, it's much harder to read the 1412 than it is to read the F91W. All good watches, though, and for the money, you can't go wrong with whatever you pick. Good watch review, Gedmis, thank you!
Actually battery can last longer than 7 years. I got my F-84W in 1993 and I had to replace the battery in 2008. The second battery is still in the watch and... still works. Unfortunately strap isn't so durable - I'm using fourth one.
For my taste, F91W design is better than SKMEI 1412. The difference i concern is the blue and white line on the watch face. F91W blue line is more visible than its white line. But in SKMEI 1412, its white line is more visible than its blue line and i think its make the watch faces less clean than F91W.
The silkscreen quality on Skmei watchface is quite fuzzy. I feel they could have done a nicer job here with some more suitable print technology choice. But maybe it's not worth fretting about much.
I have several digital watches, the only downside of the Skmei is the poor legibilty/viewing angle.. its better on the 2042 but its a little too big for narrow wrists..
What do you mean 'only daily waterproof'? 7:28 What do you mean no full calendar? it is programmed to run from 1999 to 2099. What are your expectations of a $10 watch? Do you expect it to connect to your iPhone?
@@GedmisLaguna Oh sorry about the calendar I mixed up my f-91W with my other Casio watch. My bad. But what is "only daily waterproof"? 😂 This is my favorite watch I can't see it dissed like that.
I found the F-84w in a video and thought it is a vintage. Now I know it is a only japanese market watch. Stupid idea from Casio and I am a bit pissed. Now I will buy the too, to accomplish my Casio Vintage Collection.
When you press chrono reset button or time field switching in set mode, does the backlight also turn on? Because in the CASIO F91W, the light always turned on when switching fields and chrono reset....
@@GedmisLaguna I dont like that there is afterglow when switching time fields and resetting the chrono, uses up too much battery ... having afterglow implies that there is software controlling the light (instead of hard wiring to the button) .. that means they could have not used the light when setting or resetting,,,
Seriously though. I had a timex ironman around 1993 with better backlighting (indiglo) than these casios. Junk watches until they fix that. It's a deal breaker. The skmei is objectively the better watch. And less money. And more colors.
@@GedmisLagunaAnd anyone should care why? It's a casio. Having one isn't a flex. To me, if the appeal of a Casio is that they're good and cheap, the skmei is that. But better. And cheaper. If you want to flex, buy a rolex lol.

The F-84W is also my favorite here
Product design from the late 70s to mid 80s was so awesome, especially things from Japan like the f-84w.

I have the Skmei 1412 in silver metallic finish. 50m water resistant and the back light is really bright.
I love it.
yes, the Skmei backlight is better
The night light is much better on the SKMEI 1412. I own both watches and prefer the SKMEI.

Thanks great video it helped me decide to go with the f-84w!
Good choice!
I'd choose the Skmei for it's backlight
But f91w for it's legibility and reliability
I don't know if I would win 2 if I got selected 🤔😅
