I'm an old head, compared to you guys. In the 70s and 80s, with the rise of break dancing, every day people formed crews to eventually perform in dance battles against other crews.
I was a kid during the era that funk was new, exciting and on the radio. I remember the funk [super] groups like The Commodres, Parliament Funkadelic and the Mothership Connection, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Ohio Players, Sly and The Family Stone, Lakeside, The GAP Band, the O'Jays and Confunktion.
Then again, I also remember the crooning Doo-wop and soaring falsettos of The Dells, Ray Goodman and Brown, The Chi-Lites, The Stylistics, The Main Ingredient and Earth Wind and Fire.
Silk Sonic has put together a smorgasbord of nostalgia filled with the Funk, Soul, Rhythm and Blues for us old heads to reminisce with while introducing it to a new audience. What your generation sees as new in their music has been around for upwards of 50-60 years.
Public schools used to have a music appreciation class, along with electrical shop, woodworking shop, home economics and penmanship class.
Youre getting a taste of what those of my generation and before me enjoyed on the radio, at house parties, block parties and discos during an earlier time.
