Thanks Steve! I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to speak with me. I was finally able to get the files to work to create this video! And of course. They taught us in math to round down 😉 and since you were 74 when we made this I followed suit 😅

Glad you made this video. Your absolutely correct, determination, perseverance, and hard work are determinant factors, not age. If your fortunate enough to study abroad even better. But we are all spring chickens clucking along. Learning another language, like learning an instrument, or new dance moves are great exercises for the brain. It enhances and creates new neuronal pathways. People that say learning a language, any language is hard, prove them wrong and tell them, anything worthwhile takes hard work but the intrinsic benefits are enormous. Learning a language is a very humbling experience. There is no room for arrogance when learning a language. Just when you think you know a lot you realize there is always something new to learn or refine your current knowledge. The friendships you can make are priceless when someone learns and persists in multi-language acquisition. Suerte.

100% agree with you! If you're life has not changed, then you haven't learned a language basically lol. That's so true. You live a richer life when you think about others, and step out of the box of "my people only do this, so I'm gonna stick to the same."
Everyone on the planet learnt a language as a child, is the basic principle of the argument. I'm 31, been learning spansih for nearly two years and I'm b2 in conversation/listening between b1 and b2 in reading/writing, but agree it's easier to learn a language when you're young. But that doesn't discredit your argument that you can learn a language as an adult if you have the right attitude etc. Two separate conversations for me.
Polyglots are truly amazing specimens: to be able to retain -and be able to quickly tap into- hundreds of thousands of words, translations, articles, particles, sentence structures, etc, is mind boggling. I want to become as affluent as he; but, mentally, I keep telling myself “I cannot do it”.

There's definitely something really incredible with Romance languages; I understood more than 98% and I've never learned any Spanish at all.. ...This is the result of only 4.5 months of learning Italian (where I understand everything since the month 3), being a French native speaker. (The same thing occurs with Portuguese but a little less, almost 70%). I'm learning Mandarin Chinese at the same time and for me is a good idea to learn 2 language at once, the only condition is to choose one VERY different from the one you already know, and another one very similar. Learning a language takes YEARS (even in my case with the Romance languages: a few months to be very conversational, b1-b2, but years, at least 2, for a near-native level if, like for me, that's your goal) so it's like marrying someone... ...if you get to pass such a long time with someone, you HAVE to miss each other from time to time (...go with someone else, just kidding) and have some challenges sometimes : ..when a language is too easy (Italian in my case) it becomes a little bit boring, so you leave it for the harder one (Mandarin in my case)... ...and after 4 to 5 days, even a week (or more sometimes) you begin to miss the other language and come back to it with love and smile... The same thing occurs the other way around : when the harder one begins to hurt your ego too much (it will !) you will just go and fall into the arms of the easier one, which will smile at you and tell you you are the most intelligent person in the world. This brings back the ego, and I can tell you that, you'll definitely need that. I plan to do the same thing with Japanese+Spanish, in five years (I give myself five years to learn Mandarin+Italian, and only those). So in 10 years from now, will be 35, I plan to be able to speak 6 languages, at a near-native level.. and only then I will add the other languages I'm interested in : Russian, Korean, Cantonese, Latin, and Greek. ...For you to succeed in the long journey of language learning.. 1rst: you have to think of YEARS and not months. 2nd: you have to put all your effort to find a way to avoid any pain (any!) along the way, before thinking of a way to be productive.

These exams may be even difficult for native speakers that haven't had enough training in their lives at such a high level. In the end, these exams are proof of your high level but not having them doesn't necessarily mean that your language level may not be up to a high standard. Looking at it this way, B2 is already quite an advanced level. Apart from that, I completely agree that the main aspect of learning a foreign language is attitude: passion for the language and a lot of learning input. I myself have learned/am learning English, French, Spanish, Catalan and now Dutch this way being a native speaker of German. It's fun to be able to swap from one language to another - obviously far from being perfect. Especially the English language is so tremendously rich in vocabulary that it's a never ending story.

JAJAJA trust me! I wanted to upload this sooner, but my old computer broke, AND the video files weren't compatible, so I just gave up, until I decided to not give up. It took 4 days to get this to come out right. Thank God for working it out! Y gracias a ti por apoyar siempre!
I liked this video bro in part because a lot of people (in my opinion) put way too much into Latin vs European Spanish. Yes they’re pretty different but as seen here you 2 understood each other just fine, even though your level is above his (no offense). So when speaking with slang aside you can understand each other with little to no issues. My friend wants to learn but is avoiding all things European Spanish like it’s a different language when they’re both 100% mutually intelligible.
Good point. I tell everyone Spanish is Spanish. We all generally understand eachother. It's just the slang and the accent that may make it a little different, but it just requires a sharper ear sometimes.
Awesome collab! I’m taking a course now but I’m going to come back and do your accent course. I’m still learning pero me encanta RD.

The truth is there's a lot of differences in spanish accents. We carribeans have very different accents and it makes us unique. That's why a lot dont understand us. Spanish has very different accents.
So true. When I speak Spanish, some people don't understand me. I have a very dominican accent
There is definitely uniqueness, but it's still Spanish at the end of the day. It's the slang that trips people up and sometimes the accent, but I think for the most part, we get each other.
What I have left anyway 😅 I'm learning more and more that it's not about being perfect. It's about communication and connection. Grácias! ❤️

JAJAJA trust me! I wanted to upload this sooner, but my old computer broke, AND the video files weren't compatible, so I just gave up, until I decided to not give up. It took 4 days to get this to come out right. Thank God for working it out! Y gracias a ti por apoyar siempre!
Good interview guys!
Yeah tbats silly its not the same as english
Good point. I tell everyone Spanish is Spanish. We all generally understand eachother. It's just the slang and the accent that may make it a little different, but it just requires a sharper ear sometimes.
@ yeah the arabic dialects arent mutually intelligible but Spanish definitely is
The quote you shared is one of my favorites by Nelson Mandela
wow Thank you i enjoyed this video
ESOOO!!!! Thanks for watching!
I don’t know if you’ve done this yet, but could you interpret the song “más maíz” by NORE? I saw you interpreted some other Spanish songs already .
Love that song. I may just do that!
Awesome collab! I’m taking a course now but I’m going to come back and do your accent course.
I’m still learning pero me encanta RD.
Gracias!!
@ i agree 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
@ i think it’s also sometimes the rapidez as well. A lot of people think Dominicans speak faster as well
Somebody tell this guy that he's actually closer to Portugal than Brazil
I remember this guy
Yeah bro! He's so famous!
Yeah he's well known for his skill in the language community!
I enjoyed this video. I believe languages are acquired, not learnt.
Gracias Sharon. Steve definitely had some gems in this video!
I don’t know why, but I can understand every word when you speak Spanish fast. However, I still have difficulty understanding natives..
How cool
Gracias
What I have left anyway 😅
I'm learning more and more that it's not about being perfect. It's about communication and connection. Grácias! ❤️
Either = tampoco
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🙌🏽… Guau increíble
😁😁😁 gracias!
@ Me Estás Motivando.
我喜欢学习中文 但我的中文不好 (that was prolly wrong corríjame por favor si hablan chino ) :)
So only AR verbs get the aba ending in the past tense???
Si ER IR get ia ias ia iamos ian
Yep. In the imperfect tense.
@ gracias poppy
Tienes que hablar mas despacio tio. Soy de Irlanda, hablo castellano y naturalmente íngles .
Slang, es como la jerga
What word is he using to describe his level? Sounds like “bedo”?? I was taught principiante, intermedio, e avanzado.
I think he is saying B2 but it sounds like bedo cause he kinda cut off the s
@@mishaelaisrael131 ahhh eso tiene sentido! Muchísimo gracias!
I can't seem to grasp what yall are referring to when you say for example "tu puedes hacer eso al nivel 'debedos' ". what does the D word mean?
al nivel de B2 (B dos) It means level B2 on the language chart which is upper intermediate
@ ohhh okay, muchas gracias
Which other language does he speak ?
French, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese are the languages he speaks best...
I don't agree with Steve even though he is good at what he does. Im not into his style of learning i am more like the Bilingue blogs way of learning. But the best way period is to get a native speaker tutor.
Dios no me parece a 70 años
Too old for this..
How so?
Steve, are you woke?
Hey! So I'm considering your one on one package but I have a couple questions. Where can I email you?
Hola! Bilingueblogs@gmail.com I will answer all questions there 😁
Great conversation!
