As far as direction, I believe it is an upwind course, meaning the first leg is upwind, the second downwind, etc. If the direction changes too much, the officials shift the axis of the course to adjust.
@@jacopomainoldi9025 Of course I can. INEOS won Race 5. It's in the official results. You may be thinking of Race 6, but this page and these comments are for Race 5. Try to keep track. (I know that's hard for some Italians, but try.)

At 1:34 Peter Lester mentions that the wind strength and direction look better approaching the windward gate from the right, on starboard. But Ineos decided to give up the starboard approach to do one less tack.
No race 6? This is a waste, I subbed to espn plus for $10.99 for a month, see everything anytime including replays. This coverage sucks, less then ten minute abbreviated races...
Italians blew it on first leg - overtaking INEOS and they tacked back - why - INEOS were on same tack heading into same wind - they would prob. have taken the lead... Get the feeling Sailors in general are a bit thick and can't see past the next move So many instances of absolute stupidity in decision making in these races
These kind of regattas need a third boat. A boat can win by just covering the second boat….really boring. Put an extra boat in and boats need speed instead just to cover
That is the whole point of match racing though and the tacking duels are the best part! It is a combination of chess (position), drag racing (speed), and wrestling (pin your opponent and make it hurt).
@@forumboss2620 that doesnt make it seeworthy, still boring. As said, in boats that cannot do anything else than go slow, there matchtracing may be fine (mini 12 meters fx). But here we speak about speed machines…..

Another great race!
Is it me or do other people want to see the wind speed and direction? Seems like pretty important data in a sail race.

Yes
Definitely YES.........knuckleheads

The way the waves break tells you which way the wind is blowing
Good racing! As a New Zealand
fan. I know whoever we face for
the cup. It will be a challenge
This is great racing. This series & the last, is the best the 75's have ever performed. I dont hear much about boring racing now.
LR stuck around until the end in this race, but just could not overtake. Goes to show how incredibly important the start and first leg are.
Incredible boats, incredible racing.
Approaching 60 mph downwind! 50mph upwind! Hard to believe
I think LR could have won this. Every single time they were starting to gain metres and pace they turned
Great racing!
I would love to see the wind speed and direction also.
dreaming of having more equidistant speaker...
Yea its a bit annoying
Excellent race throughout by INEOS.
