This is a review of the Fluke 345 Power Clamp Meter (single phase or balanced three phase). I talk about power quality to help provide some background as to why this tool can be very useful.
I also do a comparison with the Fluke 43B which it replaces.

This clamp on meter is a combination power analyzer, power quality logger, and clamp meter, and is ideal for monitoring electronic loads.
The Fluke 345 is more than an electric power meter. Combining the functions of a clamp meter, oscilloscope, data logger and digital power meter into one handy device, the Fluke 345 is ideal for working with variable frequency motor drives, high efficiency lighting and other loads using switching electronics.
One of the leading wattage meters of the world, the multi-faceted Fluke 345 is packed with features such as a bright, color display to analyze the harmonic spectrum, a low-pass filter to remove high frequency noise and a high EMC immunity design, making the Fluke 345 power analyzer ideal for troubleshooting power quality on switching loads. The internal memory of this electric power meter enables long-term power quality logging for analysis of trends or intermittent problems. The suggested single phase replacement is the Fluke 43B Power Quality Analyzer with an i3000s Current Clamp. If a 3-phase instrument is a better solution for your application, the 1735, 434 or 435 are suggested replacements.

I haven't the need to justify the price, however back in 1988 I opened a Communications Shop where I sold and repaired all types of Tx.& Rec. and more. I bought a Fluke AC/DC/Volt/Ohm/amp meter needed at that time. I still have that meter today and it still works as it did the day I bought it.

It is so tragic that this model has been discontinued without a replacement thats not less than 2x the price of this one. It was finally time for me to purchase a 345, and I ended up getting an AEMC 607 instead. Tragic. I am officially off the Fluke boat.

The meter is very limited due to the internal memory size. One wants to log for at least 24h every second, instead of an 10 second average for 17h. Bound to miss the rush-in/surge your looking for according to Murphy. At this price one would expect a microSD card as in new 43x series. Hope the software makes up for this i.e. generating fail/pass reports.
I need some advice on the right testing tools to use for a couple of projects, one would be charging the Power output of a dc battery charger over a day or so. Ideally it would be able to do dc inrush too but maybe I’m looking at two different devices for all of that. Can you suggest equipment and a forum/website where I can post and get some advice from more knowledgeable people than myself?

"Soft-start" is importantly to ease the MECHANICAL load/unload on motors/gear-drives.
To lessen power/current spikes, most large industries install on-site devices (PF capacitors, etc.) in their utilities bldg.

hey fluke is great stuff, however, if you have to ask the price of a fluke then, you should change brands...:/ in 2021 there are more price ranges to choose from. thanks...:)

When you use a multimeter with a current clamp accessory can you measure inrush? I’ve never seen a DMM with an Inrush function
