I have been a die hard catholic for 20 years. These past months i have been in a harsh tug of war with my own selfishness, i have wanted to run away and forget all. But i cant, and then here you guys are and show up in my feed, and rightfully so, jesus sent you to me through this app. Pray for me, Antonella C. Thank you for this talk show guys!
The Master of the Universe will never let His flock stray too far. Every man goes through similar struggles; whether they admit it or not.
Praise be Our Lord!
Take comfort in the knowledge that Mother Teresa also struggled with her faith for most of her life. Jesus told us that if we want to be with Him, to take up our cross and follow Him. I will be praying for you.
Hang in there! 💪 if I may suggest, I find the Chosen show helps strengthen my spirit when I’m struggling. Maybe it could help you! (Or Bible in the year with Fr. Mike Schmitz)
You are not alone. The walk is not easy.
Don't be so harsh on yourself. I was born Catholic. I strayed when I was a teenager, never even got Confirmed. I remained lapsed until 2015 when I joined RCIA at the age of 32. I finally was Confirmed on Pentecost 2016.
Pray, ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. Going to Confession will help immensely. ❤
The most important thing about this manuscript to me is something that you guys didn't even mention, which is that the Trinity is mentioned in the first century. There are a whole bunch of scholars who don't even believe that.
Praying for Fr. Rich, his Mother, Jennifer, Ryan , their children and extended families.
I was wondering about Fr Rich is he okay? His mother? Idk what happened...
Amen! We love all you guys.
@@robynbeach3198 From what I understand, his mother is suffering from cancer.
@ignatiusjackson235 thanks for telling me. I'll be praying for her along with Jennifer.
@@robynbeach3198same. What happened?
I am a lifetime Catholic and have never heard of the Didache! This was so informative. Thank-you for a wonderful talk!
I echo what you said. I too am a life long Catholic.
Me too! Went to Catholic school for 12 years. My husband was in boarding school for young men considering priesthood and went onto Catholic University. He has 16 years of Catholic education. We are in our 60s. Neither of us had ever heard of the Didache. Why we were never taught about this while in CATHOLIC school I wil never understand!
I am a Lifelong Catholic and I learned about the Didache while I was in RCIA, when I came back into the Church after being lapsed for years.
There are many cradle Catholics that are poorly catechized. I am not implying that any of you here are poorly catechized, but I know I was, and every lapsed member of my family is. Even my Grandmother and all her friends who went to Catholic school and still practice the faith, none of them would be able to tell you what the Didache is, none of them can even defend their faith or accurately explain it.
Education is essential. Also, taking an interest in learning is essential. Most parishes offer RCIA, and it is open to anyone. ❤
It's like an early catechism. I think I finally discovered it 10 or so years ago. I bought an ebook version of it for my kindle
I’m a convert, and have recently read it. What I’ve found in a men’s group that I belong to is that we converts, because we’re coming in due to our own conversion of heart, have generally had more exposure to things like the Didache or the writings of the Fathers than many of the cradle Catholics, because they played a part in our conversion. Long story short, ask some converts in your parish for some reading recommendations!
Gentlemen, I am a convert. I entered the church this Easter Vigil. I know you all want the Protestant Christians to see your ways. You would do best to present your information, pray for people then let The Holy Spirit influence their hearts. God bless you.
Wise advice.
Welcome home 😊
Keep up the good work with the guest priests. We miss Fr. Rich, we pray for him every day.
Do you know what happened to him?
@@roytavious He's still caring for his sick mother, I believe. Keep 'em in your prayers!
Thank you for an amazing episode. Did not catch this live, shared with friend that is thinking of converting to our catholic faith. Prayers for Fr Rich and his Mother. God bless you.
Early Christian history is my favourite and so I'm really looking forward to this.
Also praying for Fr. Rich family
How wonderful that the beliefs we practice today preceded the Bible and it is so well documented. I feel so blessed that I was called to Catholicism 63 years ago.🙏
I love you guys, but still miss Fr. Rich…you guys are a great trio! Prayers for Father and his family…🙏🏻💖👼🏻✝️☘️
Cradle Catholic, never heard of this document until this year. Thank you for reading it and explaining. One of my favorite episodes of CTS.
Praying for Fr. Rich parishioners. Our pastor of 12 year went on sabbatical about 18 months ago (his sabbatical was about 3 months). We all hoped he would return to our parish, but knew in our hearts we would be getting a new pastor. It is a loss, a period of grief for some, an adjustment, but mostly a lesson on earthly attachments. Always remembering Jen, St. Peregrine please intercede.
What happened to Fr Rich?
Definitely one of the best you tubes that I have watched. I had been wondering about the Didache and this answers so many questions and also undoubtedly establishes the early Church as the Catholic Church of today.
The Didache undoubtedly establishes the early Church as the Orthodox Catholic Church of today. You are right there.
I am a novitiate for secular third order Franciscans I fast on Wednesday and Friday, and I also pray the Pater Noster multiple times a day from the office of the Paters. It is pretty interesting to see how this lines up with the Didache.
I pronounced it as "die-dash" in my head when first reading about it haha
Praying for Fr. Rich and family...
What happened father rich
Praying for Father Rich and Ryan’s family 🙏🏻Love this forum and all who are involved 😊🙏🏻 Praying for peace 🙏🏻
This is one of your best episodes, that and the episodes about Mary, Simon Peter, and the Shroud of Turin.
Awesome episode. Every Christian should watch this until it sinks in.
Great to see you finally discuss this , it’s such a winner in any debates about Our One True Church !
Thank you for a wonderful learning experience as I personally had never heard of the didache. Unbelievable history of the early church - and prayers for Fr. Rich, his mom, Jen, Ryan and family. Plus, prayers for Ryan Scheel and a vote of appreciation for all the wonderful research you do for the show. God bless your family and God bless Fr. King. (I am hoping Fr. Rich returns though.) Yes, we are all false prophets at times when we don't practice what we preach. I am often guilty of that. You are funny Fr. King which means you fit right in with the Ryans. This is one of my favorite episodes and plan to watch it again.
Very enjoyable episode! Thank you for this wonderful podcast and prayers from Divine Mercy Parish! Also prayers for Ryan and his wife, as well as Father Pagano and his mother. God Bless.
Thank you for reading the Didache. I have not read it, but it says all we need to know.
New convert this Easter Vigil too and love your show! Sending prayers daily for all of you (including Jen and Ftr Rich).
Holding good thought for Jen D and Fr Rich.
In the meantime can you take 2 minutes to introduce the guest priests filling in for Fr Rich?
This was very interesting. You guys made a 2000 year old text very interesting and relevant to today.
Thank you so much for this topic. Now I know what is Didache is and it's teachings. God bless you all.❤️🙏
Hi Ryan, Ryan, and Father Matt. Fascinating show. Lots of prayers going out for everyone.
Thank you for this episode! I've heard of the Didache, but had no idea what it was. I think church history is so fascinating!
Nice surprise to see so early. Hi Fr. Matt, it is great to see you.
This was good!! I heard of the Didache before but didn't know what it was...or how it was spelled...lol This was very interesting and informative. ❤
this was one of the most educational podcasts on biblical history. thanks have sharing. i'vr never heard of Didache before now. I won't forget the "Christ monge" phrase😊
Buy the book it’s less than a few dollars/pounds and easy to read and understand (and short !)
I didn't know this existed. Thanks guys!
I love this reading, but I do struggle with some of it, especially these days, but I do pray, pray, pray...for help
This is the way
All of this is new to me.
Happy Ascension Thursday to the Catholic Talk Show! Thank you so much for your wonderful videos! You have been such a help to me and my husband as we journey back to Rome! We will be entering the Church on Pentecost all glory to God! May God bless you all today and keep you all today in his love and peace 🙏
Thank you beautiful episode 🙏🏻
if you paid attention to the text of the didache, and the implied context, you will understand that the didache was drawing from the beatitudes, the lord's prayer, the olivet discourse, daniel, isaiah, and the plain text of matthew and mark. their mention of the apostles means that the majority of them are still alive. there is no explicit mention of persecution so therefore the neronian persecutions of 64 haven't occurred yet. the mention of meat from offerings and absence of circumcision, means that the council of jerusalem in 50 have already occurred. no mention of priests but rather, the notion of prophets implies the duties of catholic priests today, means that the levitical priesthood is still existing because to call someone a priest can only mean a levite or cohen of the temple of jerusalem. the lack of pauline theology means that the origin of the didache is outside of the greeks. the terms witchcraft, and pederasty meaning relations between an adult and a prepubescent boy and bondservants meaning slaves means that this is still well within the second temple period. pederasty was a near universal practice in the roman empire, as well as witchcraft, and slavery. take note also that at 13 years old, a jewish male was considered a man, while the rite of passage for a roman was at 14 by wearing the toga virilis. the code of ethics enshrined by the didache for bondservants for christians is unlike that of the practice of the romans because they are treated almost as equals or christians are to treat them with brotherly love, while still operating under the civil practice of the empire.
it is wrong to repeat the notion that the gospels were somehow written or completed after 70 AD. this is a malicious invention of the protestant and jewish intellectuals because they could never accept the fact that jesus foretold the destruction of the temple in 70 AD. if you truly believe that jesus is God and Messiah, as written in the old testament, it is evident that all the books of the entire new testament was finished before the end of 67 AD because all of the books, epistles, and letters of the NT give you an indication that christians were unmolested by the romans. this means that the great fire of rome in july of 64 AD, had not yet occurred. whereas, the book of revelations clearly lament an apocalyptic suffering of the christians and saints, and the gemmatria of nero is clearly indicated in surviving manuscripts, 666 and 616. john could still have measured the temple because it still stood and at the same time, revelations indicate by strong allusions that all the apostles aside from john have already perished together with a lot of martyrs. nero died in june of 68 and it takes 1 to 2 months for letters to disseminate fully.
Except for the last book...I think John was still writing book of Apocalypse / revelation in 67.
@@femaleKCRoyalsFan the limit would be december of 67 because nero died in 68. Letters would normally take up to 2 months to be delivered between rome and jerusalem, 2 weeks if you have access to the imperial mail.
@@jperez7893You know your Bible. Do you post regularly on a site?
@@ProdigalSon684 nope. I just comment casually on apologetics sites and archeology postings
St. John wrote Revelation in 99 on the Island of Patmos
A marvelous thing slapped me right in the back of the head as I listened to this around the fourth time. It is the words of Jesus Christ, “The gates of hell will not prevail against it”, in reference to His Church that He would build. It does look like when we needed to know the details of our beginning in order to know where we are, when we became ready, He kept His promise! We know now that the beginning was the beginning and we are at this end of where it began! That’s pretty cool and very inspiring. He told us how blessed are those who have not seen yet believed… …I have to admit there was an era of life in which I wondered if doubt was the wiser part of prudence? Well, we can stop that now! Just like in the beginning, He said it, He meant it, and we can believe it!
Thank you so much for this beautiful show it blessed me so! God bless you men of God and praying daily for Jen and her healing and peace 🙏
So enlightening-and also highly entertaining. Loved listening to the three of you joke one moment, then go very serious and deep the next. Cannot believe how much this aligns with our Catholic liturgy. Thank you and God bless.
Father Matt's voice is familiar. But I can't completely recall where I heard him before this episode.
That bit about the prophets contributing to the communities they visited reminds me of the monasteries that produce various goods, like beer, coffee, baked goods and so on.
This is awesome ❤
Very interesting and informative, reminiscent of the book Wisdom as well.
Thank you 🙏🏻
today , 2 years ago, on may 12 , in sokoto NIGERIA a young Christian martyr named DEBORAH samuel YAKUBU was stoned to death by a mob of Muslim students , after being accused falsy of blasphemy. in reality she rejected the advances of a Muslim and she openly announced her love for christ. hopefully she s a martyr in heaven. pray for her soul. may 12, is the eve of the feast day of our lady of Fatima.. Christians of Nigeria are severely persecuted by muslims on a scale you just can t imagine..raise your voice for NIGERIA Christians.
I pray daily that Jesús and Mary destroy Islam
Great episode lads
Oh so very interesting!! Thank you!!!
Great show!
I am a Hallow user. Thanks for this sharing the Didache. I've been wanting to buy the book.
Thanks guys another good video, very enriching in many ways.
Thank You All...this was exactly what I was looking for!
The Didache has within it the Lord's Prayer, and it includes the doxology of that prayer (missing only the word "kingdom"). This doxology cannot possibly have been some later addition, and certainly not a later Protestant addition. The doxology is used in the liturgy not with the rest of the prayer immediately after the seven petitions, but slightly later on. It was probably because of this usage in the liturgy that caused the doxology to be omitted from so many Latin MSS of St. Matthew 6.
Great episode!! ❤
This in, chapter 11, the Christian community even when I was young, people were allowed to come and stay but after even the 1st meal they would offer to help with their hands to assist in daily chores, if if you washed their clothes, they would wear some of yours till theirs was finished. And they would help with anything or take it upon themselves to pick vegetables or milk the cow, something of themselves in honor of the good deed you showed to them. It was up to my father to speak to them and negotiate anything further. Even visiting cousins never stayed more than a week at a time.
I love how simple and effective the Didache is. It make sense
Probably my favorite one yet! Wow!
This episode was so awesome! Thank you guys.
Wow. So I can feel the energy in the room and this is obviously not the same show. I think it will take some time but it is so exciting to watch. I’m interested to see what happens when you trade another priest. Of all the challenges and difficulties, I don’t think anyone is as tempted as the priest. I still think it would be a good idea to have a semester of priesthood. So that we would have a society of priest, and some will be greater than others. And I think it will create the best foundation to do everything else that is good in this life. To have a proper understanding or perspective of what is good and bad, right and wrong and hear the best example of perfection. From the least to the greatest, each one greater than the next.
Thanks!
Hi Fr Matt! Miss seeing you!
Excellent content
Hey guys, great show! I was wondering (hoping), is there a link to the text Fr. Was reading from? Just asking
What is a good Catholic translation of the didache available in print?
Check EWTN.
Not sure if it's even available in a hardcopy print. I have an ebook from Amazon on my kindle.
Thank You awesomw show
how is Father Rich
Any insight on the messages from Sr. Amapola at the Mission of Divine Mercy, TX? Maybe the next show?
They are not in good standing with the Church
This priest has such a similar voice to father pagano with the same inflections the same Rosy cheeks and he looks so much like him. It's weird.
I thought the same!
Dear Antonella our beloved faith is a daily struggle in this harsh world. A world that is crucifying Our Savior all over again. No matter what happens to you never let go of the Lords Hand. Let Him guide you to His Heavenly Home where you belong. Start the Surrender novena. Very powerful and miraculous. God bless. Mary from England
I thought they were going to post a link to the didache? Did I overlook that. I was trying to reference the document earlier this year and wasn’t sure I was looking at the correct thing. Would help me cross-reference. 🤔 1:08:41
Is there a new book or article that they are referencing? Please put links in the note sections. Thank you.
it’s called the didache or teachings of the 12 apostles. it’s one of the oldest Christian documents other than the bible. It was considered for the canon but at the time they couldn’t officially authenticate it but with later technology it was authenticated and it’s dated to have been written around the same time as the book of revelation.

As a baptized Protestant in my 70s, I have never in my life witnessed a baptism that was not trinitarian! We baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit - always!
Interested in your comments about St Paul and the ‘cloak’ he left behind. Some, (including myself 😊) are intrigued by the idea that this is a veiled (!) reference to the Shroud rather than a random request.
Where can I buy a Didache that has been approved by the church? I've seen some in Amazon but I don't know if it was translated by a protestant.
Try Tan publisher.
I remember citing the didache to my friend who is a Seventh-day Adventist, and he looked at me like it was an alien. According to him, Seventh-day Adventist are the first Christians, which I found very amusing, and also concerning that he believed that
Is it still a good practice for families to invite your Priests over to dinner and if to come Bless your Home, you should make a monitory offering to the priest and one for the poor? Etc.?
The Eucharistic prayers were whispered so to be preserved and protected from abuse, only known to the the priests and bishops.
What language is the Didache you are reading from translated? I have one translated from Greek and some of the words are different than you are reading… I also have another that doesn’t say what language it was translated from and it is different also
Doesn't that sound like Mary's messages also, where she begins with 'my child'?
The Bible doesn’t explicitly speak of gambling per say either, but we know it’s included in curbing our excessive natures : to over do at work, hoard, over-eat, drunkenness etc.
We are the only Church who technically has a holding for the work of the Church. With our goods stewarded over 2000 years.
What about Paul’s gospel? He refers to it as few times. What about the marcion gospel and Q Gospel?
Consider reading 'St. Paul's Gospel' by Monsignor Ronald Knox.
How can Protestants not convert when presented with the Didache?
I remember citing it to a Seventh-day Adventist friend who denied infant baptism, and he thought I was a lunatic for even bringing it up
They found it in the 1800s? Really cool that’s awesome pre Calvinist I believe
„Dead sea squirrels“ 🐿️ 😂
In the chapter about Apostles and prophets, doesn't the Bible state that apostles are those men who witnessed the resurrection? If that is so, then the Didache must be during the very first years of the church.k8
I was wondering if the Didache supports the Cult of the Virgin.
Shouldn’t the Didache be included in the Catechism and the Bible? For all
Catholics to have
It might be on the Laudate app.
Why did you pick the least popular thumbnail?
Those who is last is first
Jasher 2
For in those days the sons of men began to trespass against God, and to transgress the commandments which he had commanded to Adam, to be fruitful and multiply in the earth
20 And some of the sons of men caused their wives to drink a draught that would render them barren, in order that they might retain their figures and whereby their beautiful appearance might not fade
21 And when the sons of men caused some of their wives to drink, Zillah drank with them
22 And the child-bearing women appeared abominable in the sight of their husbands as widows, whilst their husbands lived, for to the barren ones only they were attached.
What about Thomas? Why didn't he write?
They were sent by Christ to teach and preach, not to write. Andrew, Phillip, Nathanael, Bartholomew, Matthias and others wrote nothing that we know of.

Hahaha
I reject the Q theory.
Could have been a rough draft
I hope they talk about how the anonymous fragments of the didache are written in uncial script, a style which comes from 5th to 9th century greece.
B.C. ??
Well duh, the discovered manuscripts are not the original 1st century copy. Nearly every book older than 1500 years survives in a copied manuscript. The earliest manuscripts of Aristotle we have were written 1000 years after his death, surviving only because of the Catholic monks who copied them down. Why waste time talking about script type when the content is what matters?
Are there images of the script you are referring to?
@@johnfrancis4809 AD, not BC.
@@mosesking2923 if you don't have a first century copy, isn't it kinda dumb to assume there must be one? I could say Lord of the Rings is actually from the 1700s, we just lost that original version. This is a baseless assertion. There is a lot of biased interest in presenting Christian writings as older than the evidence actually suggests, because for some reason that makes it sounds more believable to christians. As if supernatural claims are more reliable the further back in history they were made? Be cautious and skeptical about these things. Its much better for you.
Father, Ryan, and Ryan, it's time to decide how much blasphemy you're going to tolerate in a certain person's comments. (You know who I'm referring to.) I'll be at my Holy Hour this evening making reparation to Jesus for the heinous thing this man said. ❣️🙏🌹

This document tells us to pray to the Virgin Mary and calls her the Queen of Heaven.
Yet the Fundamentalists/Evangelicals with say that the writing of the early church fathers is not inspired, so why to bother to read them.
They don't want to hear about the Council of Carthage,That finally adopted the canon of the Bible in 396 AD.
if it is not the Kings James Version it is not the true word of God.
Anti-intellectualism is a staple of fundamentalist evangelicals sad to say
