Meg is genuinely my favourite character in this show, she hardly ever gets to be in the spotlight but when she does she outshines literally every other character
The Meg bullying stopped being funny a long long time ago. At first it was funny when Peter gave good-intentioned but absent-minded advice because it used to come from a genuine place. I also don't get her being regarded as "ugly". If she takes off the hat and glasses, and slims down a little bit, she is just a brunette Lois. My ideal future for Meg would be to write her out for a season and let her go to college (preferably a culinary school to showcase her cooking talent). While there she comes out of her shell and is able to blossom without her toxic yoke of a family. Peter and Lois don't check in on her the entire time and they are shocked when people show them how much better Meg is doing without them, maybe via social media. Peter and Lois realise what terrible parents they have been and grovel to Meg to apologise. Meg refuses and tells them she has managed to carve her own better path in life without them. It is too late for apologies but what she had endured has helped her go forward and hopefully help others in her own way.
I want to see meg get a husband or something and a nice house too, or maybe even adopt a child, and when stewie and Brian come to visit (they're probably the only one's she'd let into her life given that stewie was a baby during her abuse) they get too see how nice of a life she's built for herself.

Meg standing up for herself was such a good moment for her and the fact she went in on everyone was more than earned and it made me sad that she essentially went back on it. Another episode which had promise is when she is mistaken to be dead after the wrong ID was given. When her family thought she was dead it gave Meg a new lease on life and even had a happier life without them and then they ruined it. One day i hope Meg gets retribution and makes a bigger stand and for it to stick. Its one of the reasons i dont like family guy. Dial Meg For Murder is one of my all time fav episodes. Really sucked seeing her go back to normal at the end cause of Brian of all characters. Also sucked that Chris got off unscathed.
I agree with you on all that about the Meg hating/abuse thing. It's really getting old and tiresome and it's long past time she had real character development like some good luck more often.
You know, in one episode, Joe Swanson (who's a cop) warned Glenn Quagmire that he could have him arrested for saying this, "I wish that I could kill my sister's abusive boyfriend!" Yet, when Peter and/or Lois abuses Meg, Joe's eyes end up as useful as his own legs.

@@slashersimp44 nothing, it's just those certain types of feminists who say they want to "kill all men" or that they "hate all men". I just have no respect for those types of feminists.
They treat her like trash Stewie is the only one that’s ever “nice” to her, Chris pretended she was dead for sympathy popularly, Lois had the hots for one of Megs male friends, the only time Peter ever truly got along with her was when they were getting drunk together.
Stewie mocks her a lot, but I guess she doesn’t understand his insults because it’s sort of a thing that nobody understands Stewie except for Brian and Chris. Who’s the nicest towards Meg in the Griffin’s household is between Brian and Chris for separate reasons. Brian, for the most part, doesn’t engage in the Meg bashing train when initiated, which I have to say this is the only aspect where Brian shows true maturity. But Brian does treat Meg like a social pariah. He seems to have a problem with being seen with Meg and hanging out with Meg. He rather be around someone as unpredictable and psychopathic like Peter, than someone who needs to be treated with humanity like Meg. Chris does not have any qualms being around Meg publicly or being around her in general. Lois doesn’t have any qualms to be around Meg either, but it’s because she’s comparing herself to Meg. Peter treats her like a social pariah in public, and only nice to her in secret. Chris doesn’t have those motives, which makes him the only Griffin that provides a normal interaction with Meg. He also on more than one occasion goes to Meg for advice, which a pretty big thing because the rest of the family members will balk at the idea of Meg giving advice to them. Because of Chris’ more nicer and humane treatment of her, Meg revealed to him that she was alive in “Better Off Meg”, which in normal situations the parents are the first to know about something like this. This also why Meg’s rant against him in “Seahorse Seashell Party” wasn’t that harsh. She could’ve chew him over his weight, smell, social status, and his masturbation, but she didn’t. She only went on him jumping on the witch hunt against Meg bandwagon, whereas she chewed out personal problems with Peter and Lois plus the abuse. Even that episode “Dial Meg For Murder” she didn’t lash out on Chris. While she beat the crap out of Peter and used Lois’ clothes as toilet paper (a retaliation of Lou’s watching her clothes alongside with Stevie’s diapers). This shows that if you treat Meg like a human, she’ll won’t attack you when she gets mad. Unfortunately, just as Meg mentioned, Chris has participated in the abuse numerous occasions. To make things worse Chris isn’t naturally mean unlike Peter and Lois. Peter torments his family, friends, and strangers, and Lois still have the mean girl spirit but she’s confined to her house giving her limited amount of victims. Even Brian is meaner than Chris and he doesn’t feel the need to do all that to Meg. So Chris have no excuse. I’m going to point out that using episode moments is not really a good example of proving anything. Chris did tie Meg up to relish on the popularity of her death, but in “Hard Boiled Meg” he tracked her down and took the fall when she wrecked the car. Brian may joined in the family witch hunt against by joining in and spitting on Meg, but he doesn’t join in general. That’s why I calculate based on default character relationships and behavior.
It was so depressing seeing Meg go back to normal at the end of “Dial Meg For Murder”. Would’ve been great if she actually moved out and just became a reoccurring character and remaining as prison Meg. I love it when she occasions stands up for herself still. Except for her and Stewie, I hate the whole family now.
@@mtb5431 Yeah those black ladies in prison hooked Meg up and after getting out she was finally teaching all those douchebags a lesson. I wish she had just STAYED like that!
@@mtb5431 Oh yeah I loved it when Meg busted Peter's teeth out and yes she should've beaten up Lois too, especially after she snuck and ruined Meg's relationship with her boyfriend Anthony.

I hate the way the writers have her being constantly abused without consequence, as though it's funny and acceptable. A lot of real children are treated exactly like this by their own families.
It IS funny and acceptable... It's just a show made for comedy, dude. Don't take it so seriously, because you're not supposed to liken it to REAL LIFE child abuse. It's just jokes. Calm down.
@@jamesduncan6729 Good writing is about making relatable characters that the audience cares about. Nobody wants to see a character they like be treated badly all the time.
@@jamesduncan6729 They've done the same shit for 20 years and are surprised they've never won an Emmy and complain about it CONSTANTLY. Obviously Family Guy is not funny for the right reasons or not as funny as you and them think they are. Jokes get old. This dynamic with Meg was funny at first but now it's just uncomfortable to watch.
Honestly the just hatred of Meg is one of the reasons I never liked Family Guy as much as the other cartoons like Simpsons, American Dad, Futurama ect. It just seemed stupid and pointless to have everyone hate her so much. Maybe having one person hate her, or maybe even her family would have been funny but having literally every one hate her is stupid. It's probably because I feel like as a teenager everyone but my family hated me
@@TheMrPeteChannel But they have the same face- Same round head shape, same triangle nose, even a similar hairstyle to a point. Her being a little rounder really doesn't make her ugly. @@TheMrPeteChannel She has curves and really isn't fat if we pay attention to the episode where the guy steals her kidney, her body size is more akin to average or healthy. She just dresses down a lot.
The time Mag thought she was pregnant so Peter took a gun to the guy. I think that was one of the best moments of Peter showing he does love his daughter. And the whole 'secret best friends' thing too
I love Meg honestly, (aside from animal abuse and murder) I relate to her on a personal level . my parents where also awful to me and i wasnt popular in school. she gets way to much crap and I would love to see her (or him) happy for a change.
I hope one day we get at least a sime-permanent shake-up in the family dynamic where Meg becomes more confident and respect and Vinny returns. I know people don’t like him, but I do and he’s much better than modern Brian
I'm so glad someone else finally mentioned Vinny. I really liked him. Vinny in an odd way was the most human of the entire family and unlike Brian, he wasn't self-absorbed! He was like that guy that tries to do good and take care of others just to be looked down on by others. I was hoping Meg would rescue him from an animal shelter in an upcoming episode. I also thought it would have been like an F-you to Peter if she did and it turned out that he was a N.Y. Yankees fan 😂
I never cared for Family Guy as a show or for its humour but seeing the way everyone treats Meg has made me avoid it entirely. I'd only ever watch an episode (just a clip if I'm honest) if Meg got a win or was just treated with basic human decency. That sort of stuff just isn't funny to me, it's just extremely hard to watch. I decided to watch this countdown because I was hoping it wasn't as bad as I'd been told it was or what I'd seen but (unsurpsingly) its actually worse. I hope that if the show ever has a decent conclusion that she gets a happy ending, or that she at least cuts herself off from her family entirely, nothing could fix their dynamic. And sure, you could argue that she's done some bad things too, but just about every single bit of that boils down to her horrible parents and the fact that she doesn't recieve any proper support or love from them. Is it any wonder why she clings to anyone that treats her normally?
The fact that Meg goes around killing ppl in a wedding dress is hilarious to me. And the offhanded way Peter is fully aware of it. I loath the way they treat her, I tend to only watch FG sporadically due to the lack of change in this dynamic
I love Meg so much! I give her a hug and a new loving family, she deserves so much better than the abuse she got. I hope Meg finally gets away from her family for good! She didn't deserve to be the butt of the joke she deserves to exist as her own individual. Also, she could have had another sweet family and an excellent school that didn't treat her like shit.
That scene w her and quagmire gets to me … family guy can really tap into trauma …. The way he seems all nice but his shadow was menacing and pulling off layers of her clothes ….
That's so messed up that Peter treats Meg so bad. I believe that your opinion about Peter treating Meg badly because she's not his real daughter is right, Lydia. (2:08)
Back in one of the early seasons Peter literally chased down a woman to get megs birthday gift which is sad because Peter will probably never do that again
Well Peter did treat Meg like a daughter when she turned one and she said daddy and she took her first steps too. But I guess cause she was a toddler at the time and I find it sad how Brian actually looks out for Meg and I love Meg as a character so much.
Loved this video; it was very detailed and went so in depth in meg’s past, her relations with friends and family, and many struggles based on just her existence and how ppl in the show hate her for just existing. Its very well made. However as much as i love this video theres one thing that kinda bothered me at the very beginning; meg being the most hated character on television; to elaborate, from within the show, yes she is the most hated character within the show’s cast of characters since literally almost every character in the show hates her. However, from a viewer’s perspective, meg isnt the most hated character on television; scrappy is, especially since the scrappy trope exists on basically every show on television. Sorry for the long comment i just wanted to give some honest feedback on the video and maybe a possible video on why or how scrappy is the most hated character to be on television. Please do respond if ya have any differing views on that tho; id love to see whatcha got ^^
I really hoped when cleveland moved back to Quarthog i hoped Roberta and her would be friends and she’d help meg find a sense of herself. A episode where they meet they become friends, Roberta naturally fits in then lies about being meg’s friend or maybe something inappropriate gets shared about meg and roberta helping her deal with the aftermath. It could have been wonderful honestly
I love that Meg went from a punching bag to feared in the family because they're the reason she became the way she did and they have to regret it in some regard
To be honest about Megatron. The fact that one of the perviest characters, and close friends of the Griffin's is a much better to her than, goddamn Peter Griffin just says enough. Like Peter hates her so much and well farts in her face and all yet in one early episode said he loved her as his daughter is just fuel for idk something that feels like anger. But then there is quagmire who actually like I stated before, is like a somewhat father figure to her. Like he dislikes her too but he gives her way more feeling of fitting in with his advices and all than Peter ever would
A father figure that as soon as she turned 18 started dating and later tried to sleep with her. It's extra creepy because he's her father's friend as well as knew her as a kid. If anything Quagmire should've stayed away since he has no boundaries or respect for his friends since he also slept with Loretta and tricked Joe and Bonnie into sleeping with Bonnie. Brian is better here because even when Meg starts up with her dysfunctional romantic urges he doesn't take advantage like say Quagmire would. He called out her high school bully as well. While they both can be jerks to each other based on the plot, Meg and Brian don't hate each other.
The Griffon’s standing up to Meg’s bullies for her would be wholesome if it wasn’t for the fact that it comes off as a “no one can bully, harass, neglect, and treat you with every form of abuse but us” way
Great video! Interesting to note that the family treated Meg a lot better when she became Ron. I think it was because Ron didn't take any shit from them, or perhaps they hated Meg because Meg's personality, as a woman, was a lie. I don't know. Just imagining Ron, kicking Peter's ass as an adult gives me a lot of satisfaction.
The episode where Meg digs into her parents and siblings telling them exactly what she thinks of them is honestly my favourite episode and I feel like a lot of people with shitty parents can relate to her finally snapping and letting loose. Now if only she hadn't become the punching bag of the family after that...
Chris isn't Peter's either, but I'm sure Peter Junior was: "I thought he'd stop crying if I shook him. . . .I was right" Left out Meg & Chris hooking up on Halloween
Meg snapping at her family (Peter, Chris and Lois) when they are stuck inside during a thunderstorm and when she comes out of jail; goes to school and beats up all her bullies is one of the most satisfying scene's in family guy. I feel bad for meg
Megan Griffin aka Meg (That's what I call her) was always my favorite character in FG. She's about the only one who's the most normal with the most common sense and they all just can't handle that about her being such stupid douchebags. I always say Meg deserves better and real character development from the same old hating and abuse crap, that's why I always say this show needs new writers who can do that for her. 11:37 That episode really should've been when things would finally change for Meg after she finally gave them the preaching down they all deserved to hear and she should NOT have apologized afterwards.
@@gibbs615 definitely! I would watch that especially seeing her making new friends, getting used to college but you know the writers at family guy are misogynistic
Another video from Screen Portal, another day made brighter! Its kinda depressing to know that the Meg abuse will never stop, as its just isn't really Family Guy without Meg getting at least some hate from everyone else. Some of my favourite moments in Family Guy were when Meg was rarely treated with respect and stood up to the people who made her miserable; especially the episode Dial Meg for Murder. As of modern seasons she's become too annoying, too obnoxious, too cringeworthy, and a bit too psychotic for me to be rooting for her nor even care for her nowadays. I can understand the theoretical reason for her lashing out at people for her being treated so horribly and being physically and mentally scared in every age of her life, but the carefree writers of modern season episodes seem to be able to even butcher her to where she shouldn't really be treated better as she's become as bad as everyone else in her family bar Stewie. But enough of the rant, thanks Lydia for another superbly executed timeline!
I cannot fathom why in the show Meg is treated like an ugly abomination but a defining characteristic of Lois is that she's apparently really attractive. Like....no?
Meg's body being always called ugly and ridiculed makes me really anxious about myself since I have pretty much the same bodytype. This show can be so cruel to its audience sometimes, "as black humor".
i agree, and it doesn't even make sense in the show bc meg looks exactly like lois just with brown hair and she's not even fat in the context of the show, there have been many actually fat women in family guy and meg is much much smaller than them. i wish they changed the way she's treated, like they changes stewies personality from evil to gay. it was funny for the first 2 seasons, then it just got old.
The episode where she cuts off her foot is connected with the episode where she in the wedding dress she was going around town killing females at night in a wedding dress and they caught her and they put her on an ankle bracelet But she escaped that should clear up some stuff cause A lot of people been asking that question
Thanks Jason, it's mostly me and my fiance James. Who also helps my Simpsons channel. Occasionally we have other writers help with scripts, but we wrote this one ourselves 🙂
That family doesn't deserve Meg..... Apparently the people working on the show at first were all men that didn't have a clue how teenage girls acted or something like that....enjoy the rest of the weekend and keep smilin'... 😊❣️
The writers of Family Guy in my opinion have kinda struck gold with Meg's character developement history arc. Through the series' long running era she has totally changed as a person, but when you look back on it, it's so logical that it almost seems like it was planned from the start. At first she was just a timid punching bag for every one in her life, not managing to stand up for herself, and suffering that kind of abuse for years really messes up a person for good. You can see her bit by bit adopt more and more psychotic, manipulative, and sadistic behaviour and thinking patterns, literally going crazy, but then through all that taking control of herself, and eventually earning the respect of her family and peers by being as ruthless and cunning as everyone around her is. First she can't get boys no matter what, but somewhere along the way she gathers enough self-confidence to bag Mayor West as a side thing other scenes implying other escapades too - she goes from a shy school girl to a full blown freak. In the newest seasons she is actually given more honest screen time and her own story lines, which are now interesting because the makers of the show have managed to give the character some depth. Kunis' language skills are also given room, writing multiple jokes with Meg saying something in a foreign language. During the first seasons I found Meg as an annoying character in the show, just serving the purpose of being just that what she was then - the butt of the a joke, but over the years and seasons Meg has slowly become my favourite character on the show, and I have been rooting for her for quite awhile now, when I would laugh at her demise before. I wonder what Mila thinks about Meg's change. She has voiced her so long one would think there's a connection of some sort between an actor and a character. I would think it would feel good to see your character blossom from a crybaby to a cool and cynical badass over a decade.
I love Meg! Despite how she's treated she still bounces back! I'm glad they gave her moments where she can beat her anger outta anyone! That's my kinda gal! ❤ Beat-em Meg!!! 👊
i like to think she is the Zoidberg of Family Guy a kind person who is always treated like trash but we do know that Zoidberg got a happy ending so who know, if Family Guy ever ends, Meg will get a happy ending as well

They treat her like trash Stewie is the only one that’s ever “nice” to her, Chris pretended she was dead for sympathy popularly, Lois had the hots for one of Megs male friends, the only time Peter ever truly got along with her was when they were getting drunk together.
Brian was pretty nice to her too.
@@babygirl5748 apart from when he basically coaxed her back into the abusive family, it wasn't his intention, but still.
Yup earlier season was fhe best
I feel the same way.

Vinny>Brian.
Nobody wants Vinny back 🤢...🤮
I never cared for Family Guy as a show or for its humour but seeing the way everyone treats Meg has made me avoid it entirely.
This is an amazing video! So much was covered. Never seen anything else like it.
Thank you so much
Meg is the only character in Family Guy I like. I really don’t like Family Guy, but Meg is(in my opinion), the only even a bit likeable character
I agree, I don't like the Family, but I do like Meg and Stewie.
Cleveland is likeable. He isn’t a moron, which is crazy rare in this show
The fact that Meg goes around killing ppl in a wedding dress is hilarious to me. And the offhanded way Peter is fully aware of it. I loath the way they treat her, I tend to only watch FG sporadically due to the lack of change in this dynamic

I so wish that Megs middle name started with an E like Elizabeth or Elanore, just so her initials would be M.E.G.

Honestly Meg was always my favorite character in Family Guy so I’m really glad she got her own timeline video.
I always thought that too. I wonder why they never did that. They honestly don't even talk about Cleveland's family
I love that Meg went from a punching bag to feared in the family because they're the reason she became the way she did and they have to regret it in some regard
Meg is not the most hated TV character it’s probably Shou Tucker from Full Metal Alchemist (Brotherhood included).

Like he dislikes her too but he gives her way more feeling of fitting in with his advices and all than Peter ever would
Still feels wierd about that name but i agree
The Griffon’s standing up to Meg’s bullies for her would be wholesome if it wasn’t for the fact that it comes off as a “no one can bully, harass, neglect, and treat you with every form of abuse but us” way
I like Meg. She's my favorite. Hate how the way she is treated.
Same here man
Great video!
Chris isn't Peter's either, but I'm sure Peter Junior was: "I thought he'd stop crying if I shook him. . . .I was right"
Left out Meg & Chris hooking up on Halloween
Certain irony that the hated one in family guy is played by such a glorious actress
Meg snapping at her family (Peter, Chris and Lois) when they are stuck inside during a thunderstorm and when she comes out of jail; goes to school and beats up all her bullies is one of the most satisfying scene's in family guy.
I feel bad for meg
Whenever I hear a bit of bad news that doesn’t grab my interest, I always make that sarcastic “Awwww” Brian makes in Barely Legal.
Megan Griffin aka Meg (That's what I call her) was always my favorite character in FG.
