A visit to the garden centre becomes the most exciting moment of the week when you get past 50.

Garden centres in UK are places you spend a few hours if not the whole day in, taking it all in, having a coffee, buying some plants or something else. Great days out at Crews Hill are great fun!

When my children were little (pre school) I would take them to my local garden centre. It got us all out of the house and doesn't cost anything to walk round if you have the strength not to buy anything. Its more interesting for the children than walking round the park. I'm a keen plant person and my son had picked up quite a lot and at only 4 y.o. he said 'oh look Mummy there's a Lavatera' I almost burst with pride! I am writing this on my daughter's 36th birthday so garden centres have been around a long time and gradually evolved into destinations.

Garden Centres are great, though most aren’t quite as big as this one, they mostly have the same sort of variety of goods offer. More often than not the goods being sold will be on a slightly higher end and most Garden Centres aren’t part of big chains either. But their Cafes are normally reasonably priced and more often than not good quantity. But they are also generally in out of the way places that require a car to get to.

I used to love going to garden centres as a kid, only to go and look at the Koi ponds. I was obsessed with fish and dolphins when I was little, and most garden centres have huge areas dedicated to fish.

Whitewebbs had the old fish called Nobby, that has gone now, but still remembered.

I live in UK and have been to many lovely garden centres, none of which come close to being as beautiful and grandiose of that one

I swear Americans believe that we Brits live in some back-waters. Just like they believe we eat only bland foods ! One day, if they ever visit themselves, they'll be in some living shocked life !

The garden centre is the mall for the middle aged. I love them.

Love your reaction to this, D. You truly are one cultured man. (Edit: I take that back at 18:43 haha)

I love his content, but to call an adult who physically recoils at the sight of vegetables "cultured" is a bit of a stretch 😂

I live in Nottingham in the UK and we have a garden centre called Brookfields and you should see it at Christmas they go all out with their Christmas displays and this one even has a pet store inside. There are garden centres up and down the UK and Scotland have some of the best ones.

I have a rose candle burning while watching. So when she got to the rose garden, I sort of have smelly-vision. LOL

The victorians used to regularly take walks in parks.... when it didn't rain. Well a garden center has the plants, and so much more and you keep dry. Most garden centres has some sort of tea room or small restaurants. Ours even has a seperate area where you can eat and take well behaved dogs. It's a family trip or somewhere different young mums can meet up when the kids are in school and have tea and cake and do a bit of window shopping in a pretty place and pick up gift ideas. Men Tend to hang round the tool section. Examining irrigation systems. The new multiway tool or the robotic lawn mowers. There are often play areas for children but usually they look pretty bored, until they find a swinging bench or giant dinosaur statue, or water feature to look at.

You have a walk around, clock what you fancy. Eat, then go and buy what caught your eye.

This garden centre in particular is very expensive, I live about 20-30 minutes away but can only afford to go there once or twice a year.

That food is not food!! It’s the same stuff they sell anyway!! It’s just an opportunity to eat it instead of taking it home and planting it!! 😂😅
Joey in Friends when he’s offered watercress “that’s not food!” 😂😅
I feel like her friend is a hostage, longing for some sleep! Dragged around 13 acres after an overnight flight! I wouldn’t dream of doing that to someone!! Sleep first

My local (Clifton Nurseries) is very hospitable when I bring my doggo along and will bring her a fresh bowl of water in a new saucer because she wont drink from the one that's been left out even if she's gasping!

There are THREE garden centres within two miles of my home. None are as big this but all have similar offerings. I love visiting them. There is also one BIG draw. Two of them are dog friendly. I love taking my little pooch to experience the smells. Even though it costs me a fortune buying the plants she is attracted to 😂

I went to a garden centre with my wife about thirty years ago, four fucking hours and she bought some seeds and a rose plant.
She goes with one of her friends now.

They're great places for a day out, but you wouldn't be able to afford to do a weekly food shop there. At Christmas, they will probably have a Santa's Grotto too.
