FIRST DRIVE: 1016bhp Ferrari SF90 XX Spider - How Hardcore Can A Cabrio Be?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 май 2024
- Ferrari’s track-only XX cars are rare, thought to number around 116 in total, spanning Enzo-based FXX, 599XX, and LaFerrari-underpinned FXX-K, plus their uprated Evo variants.
But now the XX tag has been applied to Ferrari road cars. Hardcore ones of course, but while the first - the SF90 XX Stradale - is reassuringly expensive and the fastest-ever road car around Ferrari’s Fiorano test circuit, the company will build 799 of them. And, when we drove it in late 2023, it wasn’t quite all we thought a road-going XX should be.
You could argue that’s okay. The XX sub-brand has been established - and can now be exploited - while Ferrari’s best clients switch their focus to the £5m 499P Modificata, a derestricted Le Mans car.
And yet, there’s now a convertible XX, the new SF90 XX Spider. A sacrilegious step too far, too soon? Top Gear Magazine’s Deputy Editor, Ollie Kew, has been to find out…

Name your favourite iteration of Ferrari XX
definitely the FXX-K
Fxx goated
DEFINITELY NOT THIS ONE.
Fxx K
Any of the real ones not the fakes
To be honest, making a road legal XX model takes away the excusivity of the XX branding, being labeled as track only cars
The track XX programme is dead. The Corsa Cliente is the new Ferrari track programme and includes 499P Modificata. An improved version of the 2023 Le Mans winner. You can't get anymore of a hardcore or exclusive track car then that. This XX in no way hurts Ferrari's brand or its top customers who had access to the old track XX programme.
@@cookedit British clowns are attacking Ferrari, the other day (Harry) the old geezer was talking nonsense
You're right it should have been branded GTO, would follow the 599 GTO/XX generation... its just a track pack basically wheres the XX were and should stay full on race derived.
well its called STRADALE for a reason, which literally means road. I don't think it was ever meant to be a genuine XX car, because of the stradale moniker. similar to the O in GTO is
@@cookedit You're just repeating the Ferrari rhetoric at work here to justify calling this an XX when it was Ferrari themselves who defined what XX meant for over a 2 decades.
That it hurts or doesnt hurt the bottom line is not the point.
But you know what is even more insane than the branding? Having to presently own a regular SF90 to be able to buy an SF90 GTO (what this should be called)... ps this is my opinion and not an attack on your person or anything. cheers! :)
It's not an XX car no matter how much Ferrari try to tell us it is.
Ferrari literally created the XX program, so Ferrari can decide whatever the XX means.
Street legal XX
Yeah I always find that argument funny. Ferrari can call it whatever they want. They obviously feel their clientele will like and buy it so who is to say that is an incorrect approach. BMW used to reserve their ///M cars for homologation purposes but no one in the last 25 years has batted an eye with their recent offerings which didn’t follow that initial philosophy.
@@ALMX5DP so you compare a ferrari to a bmw now, Is that the standard? Well i guess ferrari is not that far off on how far they fell. They just make a bunch of cash grab car to push the bottom line.
@@Marc-ty5sz comparing the situation, not the brands.
Cant belive the sf90 is 5 years old already. Feels like yesterday...

Conversely, it would feel like the Porsche 918 was a 20 yr old car but it isn't.
Where could you get a SF90 5 years ago?

Jokes aside, sf90 was produced from 2019
@@MrWachira98 bro time fucking FLIES
I'm giving this a like not because of the car, but because of Ollie. It'd be so easy to turn a blind eye and praise the car. Especially once you've been invited to Maranello for a test drive.
You keeping it real with the audience instead of playing nice with Ferrari shouldn't go unnoticed.
Now Ferrari wont invite him back for another test drive 😂
Thanks! Appreciate the comment. No point in not telling it like it is!
@@ollie_kew Agreed!
Honestidade >>>
Completely agree!
And, in my opinion, it's not just a fact of being true, but to communicate and remind car manufacturers which are the values that make these cars so emotional and desirable above pure numbers and money.
Again, many congrats to @olliekew91 and the whole @TopGear team!
Looks like some “tuner” got ahold of the regular SF90 and modified it for the Tokyo Motor Show. Just needs a giant Hello Kitty decal on the hood.
Deadmau5 has left the chat!!!
Bruh don’t even disrespect the Japanese tuners, this looks like a Mansory project

@@justrotate9103 I actually think Mansory did a better job than this... Says a lot about the SF90 in general. 😂😂😂

I will have to agree, this doesn't feel like an XX at all, this is more like a pista version.

Good on Top Gear and to Ollie for calling it how it is and holding Ferrari to account. As a diehard Ferrari and XX car fan, this is a mockery and quite a disappointment.
I couldn't agree more!
100%.
Do you own an xx? No? You don’t matter! They are all sold out anyway. That’s what matters.
My customers who got one tend to say different.
I liken giving the SF90 an XX badge to giving the 599 a GTO badge!! Just a marketing stunt
Honestly both Ollies, Jack Rix and Tom Ford are underrated reviewers, they have revived Top Gear's RUclips page with authenticity and enthusiasm without over the top screaming and yelling.
Obviously a shoutout to the videographers and editors too.
Yep 100%. Top Gear RUclips is doing awesome stuff atm.
Tom Ford has always been a good presenter/writer, been reading his reviews for almost 2 decades

@@rockino2562 I agree he was great on Fifth Gear!
Still don’t agree with the xx badge
No one does....only those who buy it would gaslight themselves that it's an xx😂
Lmao how about you go and tell Ferrari, who made the XX program…that it’s not an XX 😂
Needs one more X to be relevant
Marketing tactic
one more x and it will be agreeable
It should have been called the SF90X, then a future caged track car could be the true SF90XX
Or even the SF90 Speciale!

Just hustling 😂
To be fair the Ferrari share price has gone up 25% since the start of the year, part of which will be the Lewis factor, he’s already paid for himself.
If Newey does move to Ferrari that might move up further, imagine a Newey designed Ferrari hypercar. It would be considered in the same breath as F40 / 250 GTO / McLaren F1.
@@byjamesosborne 25%?! But then did it come back down as well due to market correction?
I think the car looks great tbh, that rear end with the top down is a thing of beauty
Honestly bro
Ferrari following the trend of adding a rear lightbar is just disappointing and lazy
@@zorawarthapar1517 not really
Ferrari is gonna be pissed about this one 😂
Props to Ollie for being honest in this one!!
I appreciate Ollie sharing his skepticism here. Ferrari made this car to keep SF90 values up, plain and simple.
A performance version of a 5 year old car has 30hp more at twice the cost. Come on man.
Yeah but there's only a few. So it's rare! IT'S A SHINY! That is literally the entire thought process of the sellers AND buyers.
Easy money for both Ferrari and the first in line. It's a quasi Ponzi (that's fun to say)
You forgot fact that is even 10kg lighter
So it's basically the same car ... With new body panels ... What else is new 😂😂😂
For double the price of any car i buy, i could stroke out a lil more power and drop more kilos while saving its essence. Novelty points is what they're selling
That standard card has the best part of a thousand hp already. More hp doesn’t lead to faster lap times.
BIG BIG PROPS to Ollie for being honest here. Much harder to do than we would imagine to standup. This is actual journalism and we thank you sir. Been watching Ollie for a bit with TG and wasnt convinced....I am convinced now and will be following.
what a refreshing review...... Man the big bosses at Maranello have to be FUMING.
The SF90's powertrain deserved a more hardcore and aggressive styling. This accomplishes that mission. I think it look awesome!
You have no clue and no taste. This I rubbish design by the worst designer to ever work for Ferrari
I'll listen to your opinion when yours gets delivered! Oh wait. @@rodhalligan5136

@@JmanJrada purely subjective world would make for an anarchy paradise. That's why we have objectivity, and the people are objectively right about not taking kindly to this.

Top Gear videos have steadily been getting better, I think.

@@Makrel94well not really, there is Throttle House and their extra channel.
@@FirestormX9 What does that have too do with what i said ? 💀
@@Makrel94 Perhaps the point flew over as I kept it brief. This isn't "by far the best motor journalism on youtube", not really. There is a much better motoring journalism channel.
However, yes, Chris and Doug are literally just used car salesmen now. Wasn't surprised about it from Doug at all, but Chris, yeah a bit. His interviews on other channels might still be interesting though.
This is not a XX. You can appease shareholders and market this as a XX car, but we all know that this isn't it. It's offensive to the 599XX, FXX Evo, FXX K. If the client's buying this can't experience the same Corse Clienti track days, this isnt it. It might have all the performance, but long live the V12. I appreciate the honesty from Ollie. Keep Ferrari accountable.
A guy with a username like "mclaren911" should not be allowed to talk about anything related to Ferrari ever. If this car was made by mclaren or porsche you'd be praising and hyping it up like crazy 24/7. You know it and I know it. It's just pure jealousy that you're exhibiting here nothing more. Weren't the XX supposed to be the crazy ilegal track only Ferrari versions?
Yep.
Love it, thanks for posting. Can't believe the SF90 is five years old! *That* was the shocking part of this video for me!
Let's face it Ollie, none of the sub-hyper and hyper cars are made to make sense, they are toys for those who can afford them, plain and simple. This is a beautiful car.
Their customer base is fanatic, that's why. Ferrari knew their customers would buy it for their collections. We cannot be critical because we are not spending the money to buy something like this.

"xx" same as porsche putting "turbo" on their electric cars! Just ruining their naming system
It’s very surprising that it doesn’t have a carbon tub 🤦♂️
Only the super exclusive and limited Ferrari hyper cars have carbon tubs.
that would be way too track focused ;) lol
Imagine having an SF90XX and getting clowned on by a BMW i3 owner because they've got a carbon tub and you haven't
that would eat into their profits
Glad I watched that review as I was just about to order one 🙂
Great to see some honesty!

Oh dear Ferrari. You've gone all Lamborghini.
I’d argue that Lamborghini’s batshit designs for their hardcore cars look considerably better than this does.
@@danieldickerson4838 I agree, I'd take a hardcore Lambo any day over this car.
At least Lambo still makes real V12s. They used the V8 for their SUV, smart.

You're on a phenomenal run TG
People are so used to Ferrari's majestic design that they forget that the price isn't just a car that you buy, it's pure art. This sf 90 xx spider doesn't care if it's only 30 hp more than the 5 year old predecessor sf90 or multiple times more expensive. It's built like it's out of a teenager's wet dream and a poster hanging in his bedroom wall. Appreciate greatness when you witness it, cause this car is all about that. A true gem

Absolutely amazing!! What a machine!!!!!
The last bit of dialogue reminded me a little of the Top Gear of the past :)
It’s funny how many of the video about italian supercars are actually filmed where i live. Infact, near maranello there are some hills which are a great background for videos like this.
I'll take the standard car to Novitec and get 99% of the performance for half the price, thanks!

This review is everything a person who can't afford the car would say. Ferrari knows its customers, I know a guy who bought this car.
Ferrari SF90 is better than the Lamborghini Revuelto 💯
I vote Revuelto.
Sf90 is Faster but Revuelto looks better
I'll take a Corvette all day and spend however many more upgrading it with turbos and wide body and will look better and be more reliable. At a fraction of the cost
I am sure you can do a better job than Ferrari. 😂😂😂
more reliable probably not, since the 458 their reliability has been pretty strong. more interesting and entertaining?? absolutely 😅
Still cant believe Top gear went from the production that made our hearts pound harder to some RUclips video where some guy is driving a Ferrari and saying that he kinda doesn’t like it
Imagine the oldies Top gear volks reviewing this car , I miss the old days
Ferrari missed the mark horribly with this car and the SF90 model range as a whole. truly awful looks, the standard car already looks like about 5 different designs thrown in a blender and then for this they just slapped a Mansory body kit on it. it has a great engine that’s dampened down by a stupid amount of weight and a hybrid system. it’s far too expensive. the 296 renders it pointless. and worst part with all of this is that they called this fast version the XX… when it’s not even close to being a proper XX. just why??
Ferrari didn't miss anything bcuz they allocated all cars. Aerodynamics isn't a pretty thing. Look at the Senna vs Saber. Ferrari doesnt have issues with demands for their cars so they good. SF90XX close to being sold out. Plus I want to see the Revelto vs SF90 Stadale on a course bcuz Lamborghini might be in trouble. Ignore spelling errors.
@@Mufc_Kenny Go Lambo! 😁
@@Mufc_Kenny I'd rather have a fun car with inspiring drivetrain than have aerodynamics and stuff compromise the experience. The senna produces 800 kg of downforce at like 150 mph, this produces 530kg at 155 mph. The mclaren p1 produces 600 kg of downforce while looking much more elegant, even the new aston martin valhala produces around 600kg of downforce while looking good. l I dont think they missed the mark, but they could've done better if they wanted to, base sf90 is not a bad car at all. I would choose the revuelto over the sf90 anyday even if it is slower around a track or a drag race. I do wonder if ferrari purposely nerfed the sf90 xx to make the flagship ferrari f250 stand out when it comes out.
30hp more, 60lbs lighter, 190mph lower top speed and 400k more 😂
@@Mufc_Kenny bro has not seen the stacks of SF90s stuck at dealerships not selling because nobody wants them. also aerodynamics is a pretty thing. the 992 GT3 RS is a brilliant looking car, so is the Mclaren Senna (spec dependant). and for the Revuelto vs the SF90, i honestly couldn’t care less if the SF90 is 3 tenths faster round a circuit because the Lambo looks about 10 times better and has a great big screaming V12 in the back of it that revs to 9,500 rpm. it’s a far more entertaining and awe inspiring car
Looks like a Z06.
458 italia was the peak. that was a car. this is just like that one tool kit you leave in the garage that you look over every once in awhile but never use it because it's a headache.
We call that 'front trunk' a 'frunk'. As you're in the UK, you should take front and boot together to call it a 'froot'.
It is indeed a pointless car. Whats the point in it being so close to the halo car. Its too heavy and even the standard sf90 doesnt look that good and I also wondered where it sat in the lineup when it came out so this... just... why? Lol manufacturers need to stop putting 'gap' cars inbetween line ups.
terrible review. 9 minutes of telling us this car doesn’t make any sense, without going into detail on anything else. As if it wasn’t obvious 😅😅🤣
Amazing piece of art ! ❤
Ferraris are still very good. The problem is, they used to be very special. Remember as a kid seeing a 355 in a country lane, and you’d almost feel star struck! ⭐️
Not as good looking as the base SF90.
And that's saying something because the base sf90 ain't exactly a looker.
No idea why Ferrari has decided to make excessively styled Lamborghiniesque cars now. They are so much less desirable
Because Pininfarina doesn't design ferrari's now but in-house suxs!
Stylish design, efficient transportation.
Let's be fair, all of the most ultimate cars in the world, F1 cars, are cabriolets by default. Don't know where the stigma came from but it's far removed from reality
Very uninspired car. SF90's are piling up at dealerships because nobody wants them. So now you can own the EXTREME VERSION of one of Ferrari's least desirable cars of the last 20 years.
Because it has a 12 Cylidner engine, I would absolutely rather have a Purosangue.
What do you mean by piling up? How many brand new SF90’s are sitting at your local Ferrari dealer?
@@ALMX5DPAt least 2 from what I’ve seen in my local one. And they’ve been there

I think perhaps the economy is getting to those who thought they were rich and overspent their budget or are just not willing to splurge as much as they used to.
