I've watched many of Red's videos over the years and just now learned of his passing. My heart goes out to you Sheila, he was a wonderful soul and blessed my cooking for sure. My crappie filets are always the Red way and now my rabbit will be too. RIP buddy, thanks for all you've given us.
I’m glad he made this as one of his last meals he loved it so much, it’s kind is sad hearing him say that this would be his option as a last meal, I love all his recipes and make many of them often
WOW. i just discovered this man a couple weeks ago, been making his stuff at home and was wondering how hes not more famous. just realized he has passed. this is the first youtube chef that has spoken to me in the way he does. I grew up in the south and our chefs aren't put in the spotlight enough. I thought this man was alive this whole time. this honestly changed my whole night. thank you for leaving behind this catalog of great videos for a simple dude like me. I come home from work, crack a few beers and just watch these on my big screen.
Boy how I miss him!!! He was with me in my living room for so long. Though I was watching him on my phone, it seems that he became one of my best friends that I never got to meet. He was such a lovable guy. Rest in peace my friend!
i love that he respects the animal and doesnt allow anything to go to waste.. and its not just animals, either. he does this with everything he cooks. i love him. rip shotgun red
I just watched this guy for the first time. Besides the fact that the food looks delicious, I admired how much he mentioned his wife. He clearly loved her and needed her.
Steve’s been gone almost two years. I still watch the old videos with the new. This one made me tear up.I do believe Steve was a good Christian man. I’ll see you again one day. . I’m glad he had his favorite meal before he passed.
My eyes are wet. How I miss this man! His manner, his music, his enthusiasm, his love for his lady. Sheila, go through this video one more time & just add up the times he mentions your name. You are one loved lady. Yes, he's teaching us to cook fantastic and fun meals, but at the same time, he is teaching us bone-headed husbands how to appreciate & reverence our brides. Steve was a soul to ride the river with &, from what he says, you are, too. May God grant you His richest blessings.
Wonderful video! What a loss the world has suffered. I'm so glad he got to eat one of his professed last meals so near to being that last. That's poetry. He presented it as poetry, too. Top shelf.
What a great guy. Me and my 11 year old son love watching his videos. It just breaks my heart he’s gone. I love how Miss Sheila has carried it on though.
I know I bawled for quite a while when I heard the news, which I dont do often, but when I read that he passed, I instantly broke down in tears, my wife didnt know what was wrong either, until I was done, so she could understand me. Been watching Steve since wrestling days in the eighties. He was like a family member to me. I kind of knew he would have a short life tho, because he just enjoyed things so much, and he wanted to be happy and live a short life as compared to struggling and worrying about everything and living longer. A lot of people are going to be heartbroken for a long time. A genuinely great man!
I just started watching this guy and had no idea he passed away. I just fell in love with his personality and his cooking. What a great legacy to leave behind. Sweet man, wonderful show. Gonna watch all of them.
I still go back and binge watch Steve’s old videos along with Mrs. Sheila’s with my son. We have a Shotgun Red sitting on our shelf in the kitchen. We’ve fixed many of his recipes together.
After youtube recommending these cooking videos over and over I finally watched one and I was instantly hooked in by Steve's personality. It was no real surprise to discover he was a native to the great state of MN. I think I watched about 100 of these videos before I even looked at any of the comments and it broke my heart when I found out he had passed away. I would have loved to have been able to meet him. These videos are true food for the soul and I will keep watching them over and over again. I am definitely a fan for life! Thank you Steve and Sheila for being so awesome!
I've just found this channel a month or so ago and just found out he passed away, I had to find the last recipe he posted and watch it and im now sitting here at 1:30 in the morning with a tear in my eye, I'm sorry for your loss, Steve's personality shines through in these videos, he seems like a great guy.
Been following for several years now and I just found out about his passing away a few minutes ago... :'( What an awesome human being he was. I'm glad I found him here on RUclips. He will be missed!
Me and my 11 yr old son go back and watch steves videos often. We feel like he is part of our family now. What a fine man. My son loves to cook because of him. We miss him so much but we are so glad Sheila carried on his legacy. Its so obvious how much he loved her. He mentioned her name constantly in this video. He missed her not being his right hand. She was definitely his other half. Such a kindhearted man. It said a lot to me as i watched his video a long while back when he explained why his comments were turned off bcuz the children wouldnt have to see the nasty comments from rude people. I cannot ever imagine ANYONE in this world ever having anything negative to say about such a wonder kind man. Thank you so much Steve and Sheila for bringing me and my son such joy and please keep the channel going. I know steve is proud and appreciates it. Thank you
As a tribute to Steve tonight, we made a roasted rabbit stew from our own herd. I have learned much after Steve was looking down from above. If you have watched the videos and haven't tried the recipes....Just Do It! You will be rewarded with something better than gourmet! RIP Red!!! Your wisdom lives on.

To get into his videos and then find out he passed :( he seemed like a great guy and he seemed like he loved the hell out of you Miss Sheila .I'm sorry for your loss
Brian Thorpe - You took the words right out of my mouth. I also just discovered him a month or less ago, and started with the bluegill vid. I fell in love with the guy right away(I’m a straight guy). His personality is just amazing and you can tell he had a HUGE heart. The way he was himself and the amount of love and respect he showed those women (sorry Sheila, sincerely!) just showed how much of a class act this guy was. I just tonight watched a couple more of his vids and also just learned of his passing. What a heartbreaker. Long live Steve and “Shotgun Red!” Subscribed. Peace and love ❤️

I’ve been watching Cooking with Shotgun Red for months. I put him on my tv in the kitchen and he’s become my best friend...more like family. I only found out yesterday that he’s gone. I’ve been bawling for 2 days now. I love you Steve. You’ll never be forgotten 😢
This video means the world to me. I just butchered my first rabbits and it was hard. I started reading recipes and how to’s on cooking rabbit and I was heartbroken to read an article saying that rabbit bones make bitter broth and to discard all the bones. The carcasses have been sitting in a brine all week with me too depressed and scared to waste them. Having this video walk me through step by step with someone who valued the whole carcass was so powerful. My condolences and gratitude to the family; your loved one is still making a difference.
His videos were a staple in our weekly RUclips diet, and our appetites were insatiable. We’d never contemplate cooking anything from his menus, but would only watch his videos because he was such a charming character. We dearly appreciated our brief glimpse of his work and life.

One of his best episodes! Will miss his personality and love for cooking! I have thoroughly enjoyed his cooking shows over the years. You have big shoes to fill Sheila!. Looking forward to your content.
This channel just took me through all the emotions! Found it today when I needed help canning venison and can't stop watching. This man was amazing! RIP shotgun red u left an incredible legacy and thank you Sheila for carrying it on bless you
Glad Steve could help you out. When he passed he had made 307 recipes for this channel. We will always feature him a lot! You can also watch on this channel The History of Shotgun Red. There is a video of him and you will enjoy it.❤️
Reading these comments then it hits me.... HEY comments are allowed! I've enjoyed greatly watching Steve and Sheila over the years. Miss you much Steve.
I have made several of his recipes he has shared and I have enjoyed every one! Watching this video was another blessing. Thank you for sharing this video so I can try this one too!
Wow....I've been enjoying you two for a few years now but haven't tuned in much in the past year and a half. I was shocked the comments are turned on but even more shocked to learn Steve had passed in 2018. I feel like I lost a distant friend and am happy to see Ms. Sheshe carry the torch. Godspeed girls!
I’m so sad. I just found out about this amazing guy that made really good looking food and I look in the comments and saw that he passed away. Sorry for your loss
I'm sorry I missed reds live cooking videos, looks like he was a blast thank goodness for technology so I can still find his amazing recipes. God bless.
To this day every time I watch a video, I still find a tear or two. We as a family still sit and watch these videos over and over and love making these recipes. We just made Aunt Lori's Goulash last week, and laugh at the scary movie and popcorn story. Thank you Steve for being such a great cook and wonderfully kind hearted person in our life. Ms Sheila thank you for still making videos and keeping Steve alive in our hearts.
I didn't watch this video when it came out because I don't eat rabbit ... but today I watched it after seeing you two ladies remembering Steve during the new carbonara video ... being the as it was his last video before he passed away I watched him delicately take apart the rabbit. Miss Sheila ... I love how much he mentioned you ..... you two really were a special couple ... he genuinely loved you and missed you when you were away ... he truly was a dear man with a passion and so generous in sharing his favorite recipes ... I am glad he enjoyed this favorite meal one last time ... I don't think I have ever seen him so happy eating his dish in any other video and I have watched most of them ... thank you for letting us comment here so we can say how much he and you mean to us xoxo
@@CookingwithShotgunRed He adored you because you are adorable :) ... I was hoping to find the Shotgun Red Catfish and Crappie Breading he mentioned but can't find it anywhere ..... I am happy you are continuing on and hope that the breading becomes available for us ... sounds like you both worked hard on making something wonderful xoxo
It's just crazy how he said he would choose this as his last meal, and it actually turned out that way. And also he changed up the usual ending from "if it ain't, it aught to be" to "it is." Steve was great. I cut onions his way now so I think of him every time I cut onions, which is at least once a day.
Wow.. I loved this video BEFORE I read the comments. Now I still love it but in tears. I'm going to make this recipe someday in his honor! Thank you Sheila. 🥰🥰🥰
Awesome video just wondering Steve seemed un easy here did he know something was up before his death awesome cook awesome guy. thanks for all the Great recipe's and funny moments Steve hall aka ShotGun.
I never tried most of Steves recipes but I always came back and watched every video for his on camera aura, he was just a "good guy" and is in a better place now. See you on the other side Steve
I think it tastes like chicken but my husband says otherwise. He hates chicken and loves rabbit lol. I'll have to try this recipe. I never thought to bake my stews but it makes a lot of sense. Sorry to hear Steve passed just after making this video but I'm glad he got to go out on his favorite recipe.
Hello Sheila l have been watching you and Steve for a while. I truly enjoyed watching you guys sharing in the creativity of delicious food. I have never tasted rabbit however, my yard is covered with Beautiful cottontail Rabbits. I will definitely make this recipe and look forward to taste it and love it like Steve did. Sheila Steve has been greatly missed and was so obvious how much he Loved he never stopped talking through the entire show. R.I.P. Shotgun Red and Steve Hall definitely a true Gentlemen.💕👍🙏🌹
Oh you did it again. Got my taste buds roaring for some rabbit. That looks delicious. I would like to try that recipe with a smoked rabbit. Yummy. Thanks for sharing. Oh, involved your heart and gizzard recipe too. I get the hearts during the Bass Tournaments here on the lake, they sell them by the box (5 lbs) .I my fav is making cajun gumbo with them. And yes, I'm a registered Cajun born in South Louisiana known as Cajun Country. "Acadiana".
Great video. I never canned rabbit, but in I sure love rabbit stew. This seems to be a great recipe. I like the of using the skirt meat of the rabbit. Thank you for sharing.
Aww man. Been watching Steve's video's for weeks now. Just discovered he has passed. Rest in peace Steve. Are you considered, the most entertaining chef on RUclips? If you ain't, You outta be. Love to Sheila. Were you two ever married? I can tell he loved you immensely. :-(
I loved this message!! I found him rite before he passed and still rewatch all his vids. When you said if he ain't, he oughta be, it made me tear up. I love you buddy I hope you are watching over all of us.
Just discovered you and Steves channel. Also watched the history of Shotgun Red. I'm so sorry for your loss. Can't wait to watch all of his (and your)videos. You know what they say 'behind every great women is a great man". Good luck with 'your not so new' show. Will look forward to see what you come up with. Maybe I'll see if I can get my wife to send you her lental soup recipe that she got from my Italian mom. It's crazy good. Not sure where to send. I hope you see the message.Jim

Wow what a loving spirit amazing sorry to hear he is gone broke my heart after watching found out in the comments. Sheila you must be a great woman he loved you much. going to make this recipe in his tribute we raise rabbit in Washington state thank you
Very enjoyable video. Never had Rabbit Stew. It sure seems like something to try out. I have many rabbits runnning around my neighborhood. Though I doubt I can legally harvest them 😁 I really like his use of a frozen veggie mix in a dish like this. I do the same thing. I used them once in a burrito meat and it was a failure. As a cook, you sometimes have to eat your mistakes. Not this time. It was too terrible to eat. Not sure what it was. But never again for burrito meat. Thank god for frozen pizza!!! I will check with my local butcher to see if I can get rabbit. Steves techniques are much better than a lot of professional TV cooks. He used ingredients most understand what they are and easily available. His opening of just a country cook is very fitting and useful in these times of trouble in the world. RIP Steve. Sorry to ramble on Little Miss Sheila. I hope you are doing well.
Steve seemed so lively and well. How on earth did he die so soon after this? I just discovered this gent, and realizing this, I miss him. Hope you're enjoying your days fishing and cooking and having a laugh in paradise, Steve.
My grandpa used to raise meat rabbits in the 1920s and I've loved it the fee times I ate rabbit, it's on my bucket list to raise meat rabbits and tribute my grandpa and shotgun red at the same time when I use this video to prepare em. After reading that I sound like lenny from of mice and men lol....."tell me again about the rabbits george..." I left fB last month but I can't find Shotgun Red on MeWe. I did find JenJen though. I'm thankful that this video listed some of the cooking gadgets used on the show... especially the counter Induction Cooktop. This video reminded me of visiting my cousins in Northern Michigan. Their backyard neighbor raised rabbits for harvesting, both selling the meat and of course the pelts.

I made this dish last night in the Crock Pot and it turned out fantastic. I will be making this many times over. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked it!!

Your welcome! You can also type in shotgunred1000 and see a lot of videos of Steve out fishing etc...
@@CookingwithShotgunRed Thank you very much, just checked it out and will be watching them.
Thank you Sue! Your so sweet! Thanks for watching this channel. He was very kind to me. :)
25:04 gets me every time, RIP Steve
:)
Seriously this is the only cooking channel I need ... such a good dude ... also the chicken and dumpling recipe highly recommend 🙂
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked that chicken and dumpling recipe too!
👩🍳🇺🇸👩🍳
@@CookingwithShotgunRed you are welcome ... seriously my Grandma couldn't eat it quick enough ... she loved it 🙂
It's just crazy how he said he would choose this as his last meal, and it actually turned out that way.
Please do! Your so welcome!
That belly meat, that's "Bunny Bacon" !! Looks amazing. R.I.P. Steve. Your passion for the food recipes you presented is monumental.

"Acadiana".
Came here from reddit. Added this as the first video on my Recipes playlist.

God Bless 🙏 you Mr Hall , you left a beautiful flavor filled legacy for millions to enjoy Thank You 🤗❤️ Miss Sheila hugs for you on this day 🤗🤗🤗🤗🌹
Thank you!❤️🙏🏻
@@CookingwithShotgunRed 🤗
Thanks so much for sharing! :)
This sweet man died two days after this cooking presentation.🥺
So sad to hear that. 😢 We just never know.
:( was Sheila there?
Wow 😯 😢
He sure does miss his sweetheart 😁❤️
This recipe is definitely on my list now 😋
I genuinely miss you, Steve. Thanks again.
RIP, just found out. Seemed like a nice guy.
Steve seemed so lively and well. How on earth did he die so soon after this? I just discovered this gent, and realizing this, I miss him. Hope you're enjoying your days fishing and cooking and having a laugh in paradise, Steve.
Thanks for watching!
This is basically rabbit a la king. Looks delicious. I've been looking for other ways to cook rabbit and this hasn't even occurred to me!

This just looks amazing
My grandpa used to raise meat rabbits in the 1920s and I've loved it the fee times I ate rabbit, it's on my bucket list to raise meat rabbits and tribute my grandpa and shotgun red at the same time when I use this video to prepare em. After reading that I sound like lenny from of mice and men lol....."tell me again about the rabbits george..." RIP SR and great job keeping the channel going ladies, I'm honored to cook his recipes as well as yours and the fans.
Such great food memories. Grandpa's know how to make memories that's for sure.
I had no idea he grew up in Iowa that’s awesome.
I left fB last month but I can't find Shotgun Red on MeWe.
Thanks Chuck for watching this video. Im on MeWe also and on Facebook. Sheila Keeton. Food can sure bring out the memories.🙂💗 shotgunred.com
@@CookingwithShotgunRed. I looked for you on MeWe Sheila.... there's 'three' of you and the only one with photo is a brunette. I don't think that was you! LoL
It's crazy that he said if he could pick his last meal this would be it. He died two days later.
“This, my friend, is pure heaven.”
You, my friend, now know the rest of the story.
I look forward to meeting you someday. 💪🏼 ♥️ 🕊
Well said! Thank you for this comment!
